Carter-Vickers, asset management and some hope

336

Celtic last broke their transfer record four years ago this week when they paid PSG £9m for then-20-year-old striker, Odsonne Edouard.  Yesterday’s deal to acquire Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham will almost certainly exceed this.  The initial £6m valuation will inevitably rise to £10m.

Cameron was our best defender last season and without him, the job of retaining the title, or competing in the Champions League, would look significantly more difficult.  He becomes a permanent Celtic player at 24, having spent four years on loan in the lower leagues in England before a temporary year at Celtic as part of Ange Postecoglou’s new regime.

He is 17 days older than Odsonne.  In asset management terms, he is a generation ahead of where the striker was when he arrived here from PSG.  In age terms, Cameron is closer to where Christopher Jullien was when he came to Celtic as a 26-year-old.  This means a lot of scouts have had a look at the player and none in the English top-flight have moved for him.  We can, therefore, hope he could be a mainstay in the Celtic team for some years to come.

The defence still needs work but we have paid a solid foundation this week.  Welcome to Celtic, Cameron.

Clarke’s one and only talent is taking mediocrity (Kilmarnock) and making them difficult to beat . When he can’t even do that , the game’s up .

As for those who run the Scottish game , when your interests stop at the establishment team ………..

  2. Well done Ireland, played better, passed better and were more potent than us.

Summer and rest is what I want for Celtic players

Pre match, Kenny was on his Harry Potters….it’s Clarke now, that was fkn abysmal

A guy who has not played to Liverpool,Williams,Wales, under 23,is now being chased by Forest for 15 million. The madness never ends.

We are doing the right thing, stay away from England, they live in their own wee Sky fuelled bubble.

    Cameron Carter Vickers….

  7. TET: that’s how I would see it too.

    Re the booing:

Irish Liverpool supporters boo opposition Man U players and Irish Man U supporters boo opposition Liverpool players.

Been like that for a long time.

  8. Ukraine should walk this group- they are too good for this company. Armenia are much weaker than ROI and Scotland but, at home, in the heat, they can do damage.

Scotland are behind the 8 ball now.

I would not be surprised to see a different keeper and back 3 on Tuesday:-

    Kelly

    Hendry Souttar McTominay

    Patterson. Robertson

    Gilmour McGregor Armstrong McGinn

    Stewart

I’d prefer to see Callum rested but I cannot see Steve Clarke dropping McTominay, McGinn, McGregor or Robertson.

Armstrong deserves his shot but he needs to rotate his starting selection at the end of a hard season

  9. Not one of those 3 centre half’s for Scotland were any good, the midfield is wrong mcginn mcgregor gilmour mctominay or any combinations of were dominated by the Republic who were by a mile the better team despite Shane Duffy almost gifting mcginn 2 goals, the keeper was flapping as well at times, Mcgregor needs a rest now.

No wingers relying on the motorbike that is Robertson and Tony on the other side to create, I agree with the poster who said he made Kilmarnock hard to beat , but there must be serious questions asked of Clarke and his backroom staff even though he has signed a new contract. The people who should be demanding it are the support who go.

Prestonpans 7.10. Anytime next month is fine young fella. Always available for selection. The 12th would be a real laugh. 😂

Who does the bot Collins play for?

He looked likexx CD a good defender.

To be fair, so did big Shane.

That’s two games (Ukraine and Ireland) the tartan army have booed opponents doing a pre-match huddle.

I can’t imagine why that upsets them.

  13. If as many on here want Steve Clark to get sacked ,why he may have picked the wrong eleven ,fine but it’s them the players that has to go and win games ,sometimes you have to wonder is these players are good enough ,on this evenings showing no .

  14. somebody mentioned in the past about their granny being born in the gallowgate, one of the high number tenements and there was no pictures found, maybe this then ……..

Exactly … I felt the same with Neil Lennon :-)

The players lose fitba matches … managers just pick the wrong players

Ryan Christie could get many mangers the sack

That is just a wee joke

Ireland players wanted it more today, they deserved their win and worked their socks off

  16. I was watching the All Ireland qualifiers today so didn’t see the game. It has to be said though, if Ireland have beaten you 3-0 then my goodness you must be bad. This is easily the worst Ireland team I’ve ever seen.

Lucky it wasn’t 4 or 5.. I think Hugh Dallas was doing the VAR. Can’t imagine any other reason the 4th goal wasn’t given.

  18. Ukraine & Ireland tonight … 2 defeats in around 12 or 13 international matches … Scotland are still in a far better place than we have been in a long time

I suppose it’s all about how you look at things

3pts against Armenia on Tuesday and Scotland will be 2nd behind Ukraine … probably their rightful place

Gene 8.51pm … don’t think any result today would have effected Qatar participation:-)

Researching your own Genealogy can be very interesting and often leads you to places you could never imagine.

I have traced a few branches of my family tree back to the 16th century in England and Ireland. In the process I discovered that my great grandmother’s brother – Thomas Donohoe – introduced football to Brazil and is revered as a bit of a folk hero over there.

He was born and raised in Busby, East Renfrewshire of Irish parents with whom he later emigrated to Brazil. A sculpture of Thomas was recently erected in Busby. I and my two sons attended the opening ceremony.

More details of Thomas Donohoe (Footballer) can be found in Wikipedia.

  20. Paul67,

I am deelighted that Cameron has decided to commit to Celtic, the Season just finished he was Absolutely Outstanding and he really composed our defence with his assuredness in Every game.

    Jota next.

Looking forward to Callum getting a rest, he really is an Incredible player. I huv High Hopes for next Season in Europe with Ange at the helm and such a skilled player in Callum leading us on the field of play.

If it would be a choice to purely get through then Eintracht would be the obvious pot 1 side, like maist I’ve spoken to I’d rather play Real Madrid and beat them @ Celtic Park.

I mean thats whit the Disco Lights were brought in for. Hearing the CL anthem @ Celtic Park with the Disco Lights will, its long awaited, be something Truly Magical. Ange Noone knows what its gonnae do to the Celtic Support. Likely a Heart attack for me!!!!!!

Who is under most pressure ?

England were in the final of the last major tournament but Gareth now has less points than Stephen & Stevie

Away from international football just imagine a “new” manger took over one of the biggest football teams in that country .. lost 3 of his first six games … but then went on to not lose a domestic game over 90mins between September to May …. Surely if that happened the media would be all over it

    Ah well …

am pretty sure Ange loves the fact the media still struggle to praise him …

  24. Re the Booing at end of Ireland/Scotland game it was from the Scottish Supporters behind the goal and was directed at their own team,

  25. Gerry,

I know I’d have loved the Rudi Vata, Dads stopping me doing anything now, mad when I think he never stopped me doing anything.

He pointed to the Daily Record frontsheet about CCV signing. As philvis would say it was a thumbsup moment.

I’ll get there soon and me and TLT will have a blast, I may even convert him to just drinking water apart frae any loony juice one Dr!nks.

No bother mate … for some crazy reason I had put a days holiday in last year … then when BMCUWP has said he was up it all fitted … I dislike going into Glasgow as av being doing it for 30 odd years but a wee jaunt into high street is an easy shift …. Quite funny walking along argyle street looking for a bank (didn’t think the Tollbooth would do cashless) and bumped into Philbhoy … although he greeted me with “alright BT” he got his Blantyre Tim’s mixed up with his Gerry fae Coatbrigs :-)

Hope BT is as annoyed just as much as I wax :-)

Well I suppose we are both carrying a bit of weight, not got much hair … but by all accounts he could kick a ball a bit better than me … although just a bit so i have been told by neutral acquaintances :-)

    St Stivs :

Johnny Bonnar’s was on the corner of Gallogate and Orr Street.

If you turned left from Gallowgate into Orr Street and walked towards London Road, you would have passed St. Mary’s Hall where Celtic was founded.
