Celtic box clever again, and the SFA know it. Aleks Tonev, who has a strong east-European accent and limited English, denies uttering racist comments against Aberdeen. Did he? He might well have, for all I know, but, with only one person contradicting Tonev, the SFA have no idea either.
When this issue first raised its head I don’t think anyone on CQN made a character reference for Aleks, but we concluded this issue was destined to remain unresolved, as there is simply not enough information to consider the matter. The SFA know this and know that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will find in favour of the player if they persist in trying to ban him for 7 games without collaboration.
Don’t let Barry Hearn fool you, it’s the SFA which is unfit for purpose, not the professional clubs or the SPFL.
It was great to see our very own Mouldy67 on the big screens on Wednesday for his Cycling Santa Appeal. He left London yesterday morning before resting up for the night in Birmingham. All going to plan, he’ll reach Glasgow on Monday.
Mouldy (Paul) is running to raise funds and awareness for Neuroblastoma Childrens’ Cancer Alliance in memory of Wee Oscar. It’s an incredible undertaking and a living example of the Celtic spirit brought to life.

I don’t get the notion, apparently widely held and reported by The Scotsman today, that Rangers (sic) cannot afford to sack Alloa McCoist (© Jobo). He’s on a contract which the club can continue to pay, while promoting Gordon Durie to first-team duties for little or no extra cash. They may even have a case to curtail their outlays to him. I can’t see how sacking him costs money in the short term, and let’s face it, that’s all this lot need to worry about.
Knowing where the bodies are buried
Super Alloa has seen the current directors, and all previous regimes right back to Murray, operating up close and personal. He knows which cupboards have skeletons lurking, while all of them will be aware of his contract negotiations, and what he has, or has not, been prepared to do for the club. It’s a classic co-dependency situation. You don’t sack the guy who knows what you don’t want revealed.
There is also the small matter of management priorities. Would the captain of the Titanic have sacked the chef for a lousy meal after they’d hit an iceberg?
If you’ve not been involved with the Celtic Foundation before there’s a great opportunity coming up next week. They’re looking for bucketeers ahead of the St Mirren game on Sunday, 14 December, to help raise money for the Christmas Appeal.
One of the beneficiaries of the Christmas Appeal is Glasgow City Mission, who provide emergency accommodation for the homeless, a dedicated Foodbank and an evening drop-in service that feeds those who are impoverished and in need of a proper meal, for, on average, 130 men and women each evening.
Graham Steven of the Mission said, “We are extremely grateful to Celtic FC Foundation and Celtic supporters for their continued generosity.
“Their much-needed financial contributions make the work of Glasgow City Mission possible. In particular, by funding our Older Men’s lunch club, you are providing a safe space for people to come and enjoy lunch and social companionship.
“Loneliness and isolation are significant factors in many of our clients’ lives – you are helping to turn that around, improving lives and strengthening communities – thank you!”
So next week, you can turn up to Celtic Park a wee bit earlier, get to meet hundreds of cheery Celtic fans, get a ticket to the game, and help to feed, shelter and provide companionship for the city’s homeless.

Only in an institutionally sectarian country can this go on. The police are institutionally sectarian as fans of our age can testify. From the janfield street incident, to the near deadly crush in the jungle one year they decided to close the walkways, to memories of the cops trying to arrest me for walkimg through an orange walk we have faced this sectarianism and it’s still there.

Incredibly it told a different story from the one Roseanna Cunningham had when I went to see her in October 2013. On that occasion she advised me on at least two occasions to be very careful about what I was saying because she had the information that proved that the Celtic fans were completely out of control and that the police intervened to stop a riot

I suspect Celtic have reduced their police costs…..they used have police at the motorway end of London Road, who turned off the traffic lights and directed the traffic for the quickest possible entry to the motorway….not now….no Police, ridiculous queuing etc

Funnily enough someone posted this the other day here. It seems the answer is no, they didn’t. They owe said creditor the small sum of £185. I’m sure some of these new millenium Hearts supporting heros will raise some funds for this to establish some dignity, possibly by way of a benefit match with their wee cousin Sevco.

HEARTS administrators BDO have revealed that the club owe £28.5 million after sending a detailed report of the club’s debts to all 200 creditors.
As well as the £15.5m and £8.2m due to Ukio Bankas and UBIG – Russian businessman Romanov’s collapsed companies in Lithuania – other significant creditors are also listed. This includes £1.9m due to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. This debt is due from a £1.75m tax case that the club lost last year when they agreed a repayment plan of three separate £500,000 instalments.
A total of £1.7m is owed to Milson Capital Corp and Ensco 165 Ltd, companies thought to be controlled by Romanov. Milson loaned £1.2m last season to pay players’ wages.
The report states that Hearts owe a total of £535,000 in football debt, which must be repaid in full by any new owners. Liverpool are due £47,000, while the likes of Rangers, Livingston, Ayr United and Stenhousemuir are waiting on smaller amounts.
The club is also in arrears to their training base landlords Heriot Watt University to the tune of £146,000.
Creditors are due a total of £28,424,336 but that amount could rise further with BDO expecting more claims.

I have a slightly different but possibly complementary take on causes, effects and consequences for the future.
I also fear that we may be half way down an irresistible whirlpool from which we will not rise again.
As we become more and more indistinguishable from other ‘business operations’, essentially having the plans and structure honed to make as much money as possible from a target market, one of three things are likely….
– the target market becomes cheesed off and gives up causing the club to become irrelevant
– we enter the realm of ‘survival’ – keeping our heads above water but being an interesting but inconsequential anachronism with a great history but little imoact on present or future
and possibly worst of all
– we by some magic of the capitalist admirals at the helm of the good ship Celtic, find our way into the same waters as the other mighty vessels whose own captains have little or no interest in football, but a lot of ego involved in being a ‘player’. At that stage the history begins to slowly but surely evaporate.
Let’s be honest with ourselves here, how many businesses last 126 years and are still what they were at the outset.
I will get back to you with more of my mixed up thinking but since I am off to Sydney tomorrow (and meeting up with Sydneytim) I need to get some sleep.
Hopefully we’ll get continue at some future stage, but for now…Hail hail and good night.

Well, to be fair, the rest of the clubs in the “Championship” (outwith the huns and their wee cousin Sevco), are playing by the rules and operating within their financial capabilities as far as I know – if either of them are allowed promotion above these teams, then it will be yet another disgrace to the Scottish game. Neither should have been allowed to get to the stages they have in any of the cup competitiions either, no matter how much hilarity it gives us! :)
