Celtic, experienced winners at Ibrox

239

You will remember being concerned going into ‘these games’ in the past with too many Celtic players who have either no experience of them, or mainly poor experiences.  Not so on Sunday.  The Celtic side and those in the dugout have  experienced overwhelmingly positive outcomes when facing Newco, including at Ibrox.

The same is not true the other way.  Some of their starters will have played in the dead rubber at the end of last season, when Ange left half our team out.  Tavernier and Goldson have at least won meaningly 90 minute games against Celtic, but that’s about it, and even they will still need therapy to cope with memories of players in green and white hoops.

What happens at the side of the pitch will be as important as what happens on the turf.  For months, Brendan Rodgers has been privately suggesting that as long as Celtic are in touching distance when we get to Ibrox, we will be in good shape after the game.  The manager has an outstanding record at that ground, it seems to bring the best out of him.

Joe Hart, our back four, and Callum McGregor will feed confidence off each other.  Daizen and Matt O’Riley will use the relative freedom of an open game to exercise their abilities.

In my entire Celtic watching life, no striker has so dominated either of the Rangerses than Kyogo, even the Great Swede, and he dominated them into a wonderful tax efficiency scheme.  Nicolas Kuhn will be the one player in a Celtic shirt who will need to find he bearings.  If he is against Barisic, that will not be a challenge.

Having the better team does not guarantee anything, but the Celtic team you see on Sunday will be the best assembled side in Scottish football for many months.  Bring it on.

I disagree, I think they will do what every other team who have got a result domestically against us and how they play in europe.

I think they will counter us and look.for set pieces to send into our box.

If we touch them they WILL go down and wait for VAR

  2. Good morning all from a very still, calm and dry at the moment 6 degree Garngad.

Calm and still before Sorm Kathleen hits Glasgow today.

Then Storm Celtic hits the Ipox area tomorrow.

1 more sleep bhoys, 1 more sleep till der hun go back in their box.

I think the Huns will play their usual game come at us full pelt for 15 – 20 mins then sit and play counter attacking football.

We keep the door shut for 20 mins then play our passing game, pass right through them gaps in their defence of which their will be plenty.

Also I would not rule out some balls over the top if they play a high line.

I hope that you all had a great day out at ” AIR THRILL” yesterday ?

    Years ago, I tried to join a Trampoline Club…..I couldn’t get in….The Place was ” JUMPIN” !

I made that one up mysel a while back.

    LOL

  4. The weather tomorrow is forecast to be absolutely howling.

Wonder how the long ball game will cope?

Separately, I notice the man utd- Liverpool mgrs speaking out against tradegy chanting and other offensive behaviours.

Meanwhile, mccosit encourages this then slithers away. He’ll doubtless make a cheeky chappy retort after the game.

To anyone who believes his words should be ignored, sadly we’ve all seen post game violence too often to be complacent. What a dreadful man and a coward to boot.

  5. I don’t know if Celtic will beat the Huns..

I don’t know if Brendan will play CALMAC….

I don’t know if KYOGO will score any Goals tomorrow…

I don’t know if Celtic will get, and score from a Penalty….

I don’t know if Ref Beaton will award the Huns FIVE Penalties….

It seems that I don’t know very much at all….Except that the Hun Team WILL ” TARGET” wee KYOGO, NICOLAS, REO and CALMAC ( If he plays ?)….because they have always been ANIMALS, and always will be.

    So there now….

    I HATE the Huns…….phone the Polis !

As per usual, the huns will be targetting Kyogo’s dodgy shoulder every chance they get.

Also, IF CALMAC plays the Huns will try and ” TARGET” him…especially with his recent injury worries.

    ……….

Can I assume that the stormy weather will also affect any Flights that Hun fans may have booked ? I do hope so.

    What a shame.

    LOL

  10. Jimmy I have no doubt this windy weather will also affect flights.

I am also worried about us not making it over to the main land to watch the match in (McCabes)THE DROUTHY NEEBORS

  11. I thought BR was sooo savvy when talking about the referee tomorrow.

I feel that Brendan and the team are starting to click.

COYBIG. 2 nil for us tomorrow, with BR to make some ” unorthodox ” decisions.

  12. Prestonpans bhoys on

The huns have put up a marquee for 200 VIP guests outside the ground. Have they not checked the weather forecast for the weekend 🙄

  13. Apart from my usual ” Correct Score” Bet etc for Tomorrows match…I noticed another wee Bet , so I have placed a small wager on CELTIC to WIN from ” BEHIND” ?

BET365 have this Bet priced with Celtic at odds of…10/1.

If you consider this bet, it would be best that you look at ” The SPECIALS” on your Bookie list to find this kind of Bet.

    HH.

  14. Many folk are thinking that the Huns will try an get off to a flying start tomorrow ?

That may be so however, I seem to remember a game at Ibrox in recent years when Celtic Kicked Off, and either DEMBELE or EDUARD Booted the Ball right to the Corner Flag at the Copland Road Hun end, in order to put the Huns on the ” BACK FOOT” from the very start ?

Maybe Brendan has a ” Cunning Plan” ?

    LOL

I see Clement has reverted to hun “type”. His presser yesterday smacked of the arrogance and entitlement that often comes back to bite them on the arse. Here’s hoping….

  20. BBC Sport articles today, compare and contrast…

‘Why Rodgers’ 16th derby holds more peril than any other’

‘Clement’s clarity has Rangers in sight of success’

Here’s the first few paragraphs of the Clement article from Tom English… tells you all you need to know

In late April 2011, Rangers hosted Celtic in the final Old Firm encounter of a nip and tuck season.

Walter Smith’s team had a one-point advantage at the top but Neil Lennon’s men had a game in hand. The margin for error was close to zero.

After 83 minutes, Celtic were awarded a penalty. Had they scored, and won, they’d have had a two-point lead with a chance to make it five soon after. They’d have been unbackable favourites for the title.

All Georgios Samaras had to do was beat Allan McGregor. He couldn’t. Rangers went on to win the title.

Let’s hammer this mob tomorrow and put Clement, English, McCoist etc back in their wee box.

  22. Almost everything about Attila the Hun’s life was remarkable, including his death. Though some details of the story remain unknowable — this was the year 453 CE, after all — we do know that the leader of the Hunnic Empire married a beautiful young woman named Ildico just as he was preparing his latest attack on the Eastern Roman Empire, then ruled by Marcian. The celebration lasted all night, with Attila leading the way by drinking and feasting to his heart’s content. But his guards became nervous when he didn’t wake at the normal time the following morning. Breaking down the door to the bridal chamber, they found their leader dead and his new wife sobbing at his side.

Attila had no visible wounds; according to an account from Byzantine historian Priscus (a diplomat who had dined with Attila), the Hunnic leader had choked to death on his own blood after suffering a drunken nosebleed. Though some later theories suspected Ildico of foul play, and others thought Marcian was somehow behind it, no proof has ever emerged for either theory. Attila is far from the only world leader to depart this mortal coil under strange circumstances, of course.

King Adolf Frederick of Sweden ate himself to death after consuming everything from lobster and caviar to champagne and a sweet roll called “semla.” Greece’s King Alexander I, meanwhile, was done in by an infected monkey bite, and Greek philosopher Chrysippus is thought to have died of laughter after seeing a donkey eat his figs.

A donkey eating your figs sounds much too painful to be a laughing matter !

  24. I see the SPFL is going to carry out a further pitch inspection at 1pm. up at Dens Park. Now given that the opposition is Motherwell might be leaving it a bit tight for their fans to get themselves up there in time for the 3pm kick off. Of course they could already be on their way, tuned into Radio Scotland en route in the forlorn hope that ‘Off The Ball’ is er on the ball however unlikely an event that might be. There is always a first time for everything I suppose.

Meanwhile the best of the weather has been reserved for the Old Farm Derby down in Norwich, during which I’ll be supporting Norwich on account of the fact that Chris Sutton use to play for them back in the day, including when they beat Bayern Munich which we watched in a bar in Berlin. Quite like Ipswich too mind you on account that Alan Brazil used to play for them, Bobby Robson used to manage them and their current manager might manage Celtic in the future. Did I leave anybody out?

  25. !!Bada Bing!! on

Radio Scotland sports monkey said game shouldn’t be on,Motherwell not happy about it

  26. If we start full-strength – i.e. Calmac and Hatate in, then we will probably have to replace one, or, both, in the second-half – so what have we got in terms of realistic cover on the bench ready to come on.

    Goal – Bain

Defence – Ralston & Welsh………..wish Nawrocki & Lagerbielke were making the grade.

    Midfield – Tomoki & Bernardo.

Front – Idah Forrest, Palma, Yang & Kelly…..wish OH was better

That is the strongest eleven and bench we have put together all season.

Twenty-four ‘first-teamers’ is about the right number.

A new goalie, left-back, centre-half(if Naw & Lag are surplus), three quality midfielders if MOR & Bernardo leave – two to replace them and a Scott Brown clone, and if not Idah, a new striker. Total seven, not exactly a rebuild, but we must act quicker and do better this summer than last.

It’s taken all season to get to this – let’s hope we’re right on time!

  27. What is the Starz on

Ex Celt Colin Healy’s wife Kelly Healy died yesterday. Young woman in her 40s.

Colin is currently part of the management/coaching team with Ireland ladies and is also formerly player and Manager with Cork City.Their son is a player with Cork and I think Kelly was involved with Cork City ladies.
