Celtic, experienced winners at Ibrox

239

You will remember being concerned going into ‘these games’ in the past with too many Celtic players who have either no experience of them, or mainly poor experiences.  Not so on Sunday.  The Celtic side and those in the dugout have  experienced overwhelmingly positive outcomes when facing Newco, including at Ibrox.

The same is not true the other way.  Some of their starters will have played in the dead rubber at the end of last season, when Ange left half our team out.  Tavernier and Goldson have at least won meaningly 90 minute games against Celtic, but that’s about it, and even they will still need therapy to cope with memories of players in green and white hoops.

What happens at the side of the pitch will be as important as what happens on the turf.  For months, Brendan Rodgers has been privately suggesting that as long as Celtic are in touching distance when we get to Ibrox, we will be in good shape after the game.  The manager has an outstanding record at that ground, it seems to bring the best out of him.

Joe Hart, our back four, and Callum McGregor will feed confidence off each other.  Daizen and Matt O’Riley will use the relative freedom of an open game to exercise their abilities.

In my entire Celtic watching life, no striker has so dominated either of the Rangerses than Kyogo, even the Great Swede, and he dominated them into a wonderful tax efficiency scheme.  Nicolas Kuhn will be the one player in a Celtic shirt who will need to find he bearings.  If he is against Barisic, that will not be a challenge.

Having the better team does not guarantee anything, but the Celtic team you see on Sunday will be the best assembled side in Scottish football for many months.  Bring it on.

  1. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

“Despite heavy rainfall, covers hired from Celtic helped avoid a fifth Dens Park postponement this term”

    O*d F**m angle – always a seller.

The escalation of this pitch story is bizarre.

Sevco set the agenda and say “jump”.

    Shortbread ask “how high?”

No idea how tomorrow will go.

But the disproportionate promotion of a largely unrelated story (take one game at a time and all that) suggests psychological fragility.

  2. BEST Wishes to HOT SMOKED, who has been a bit unwell recently.

    Get well soon Mate.

Grand National….The Two Horses are ” CORACH RAMBLER” the 5/1 Favourite ( I have backed the Horse a while ago at Ante Post odds of 14/1 and 12/1. Ive also backed it at 5/1.

The other Horse is ” MR INCREDIBLE” at around 16/1…which could be a decent Each Way Bet ?

I will also back BOTH Horses in Straight and Reverse Forecasts , just in case they finish ” 1st and 2nd” ?

    Take care HOT SMOKED.

  3. Given the state of Dundee pitch, it’ll be worse by Wednesday. What will happen to the game?

  4. !!Bada Bing!! on

Ziggy-seems Dundee have been sounding out St Johnstone and Aberdeen to possibly play the game there

  5. Don’t know why, but I am , for the first time in my life, not in the least anxious about tomorrow.

Never have I been more confident, just hope it’s not ill founded

  6. Eyes have not seen, nor ears heard, nor has it entered the heart of man, what Rangers will do to players wearing green and white jerseys this Sunday.

A quote from scripture more or less what we have heard on every occasion the Hoops have ventured into Ibrox on many occasions in the recent past.

Celtic have regained form over the past few weeks with the infusion of our injured players, The defence is in good shape with the return of CCV’s ‘steadying influence. The karma is good with Brendan never having lost a derby and Liam Scales also going for his fourth going back to his Aberdeen days when he also scored. There’s the Kyogo factor providing the jitters for their defenders. The Celtic attack will cause problems the pressure has to be sustained and no dropping off in the second half for the victory.

  7. Good wee video of today’s training ..Very low key, totally relaxed Buoys look in fine fettle.

Luis Palma training and in the squad.Could be very important for us.Another match winner.

  8. !!Bada Bing!! on

I think I would keep Forrest on the bench rather than Palma,he’s looked really sharp last few games he’s came on

  9. !!BADA BING!! on 6TH APRIL 2024 3:03 PM

Ziggy-seems Dundee have been sounding out St Johnstone and Aberdeen to possibly play the game there

    _____

No way do we want to let that happen, irrespective of result tomorrow. Dundee need to take something from that game to make top six, albeit they have a game away to Aberdeen on Saturday. Hibs v Motherwell on Saturday (who they’re competing with). Pitch doesn’t look great but they played today.

  10. I’m feeling quite confident for tomorrow if I don’t think about the officials.

Having said that, I’ll be happy to take a draw as I’m sure we’ll be too good for them at Celtic park.

If we get an early goal, then dominate, it will help take Cheatin’ Beaton out of the game. Big “if”, though.

  11. we need to score first and at least 2 tomoz to take the ref out of the equation for sure

  12. garygillespieshamstring on

Need to make sure we keep 11 on the park at all costs.

Eleven v 15 is hard enough as it is.

  13. Dundee let themselves down in final 20 today. Not the first time this season. They have still done well and will be desperate to atone and get a point to secure it on Wednesday.

Although their fans are not well disposed toward us their ownership and management definitley are. I expect them to throw everything at that lot on Wednesday.

Of course that lot will effectively have a day recovery from our game then a day training then travel up for most of Wednesday. Not easy to go and play there like that if they are not on the back of a strong result tomorrow.

This could be a huge week.

  14. I wont be happy with a draw, get tore in and get 3 points, we have played much better teams this season ath Madrid Lazio and Feyenoord , we’re getting back to full strength, and it’s time to use all our abilties knowledge and guts to get the points we need to win the league starting with tomorrow, we have played there before with no support, we know what to expect from Beaton, take him out of it, be ruthless, clinical and supportive of each other. The subs also need to keep the performance at the same level as those who start, play what’s in front of you not the occasion and get it done.

  15. I think even if they do score early as long as we keep our cool they will get nervous.

  16. Prestonpans bhoys on

The hun manager persistently puts pressure on the 4th official, wonder how Gollum will react to that 🤔

  17. I do not see this great team we are going to play, they’re physical organised and cheat , they’re also well beatable as Motherwell showed, have shots at goal regularly test their fullbacks get Souttar and Goldson turning and defending crosses on their 6 yard line , they won’t deal well with that.

  18. any excuse to show this.

we have had many great contributions over the years from those who went to lisbon, and i never tire of reading them or imagining what it was like.

what i would like to hear more of though is if you were at home, did you go see them return.

what airport did they come back to, and what route did they take back to celtic park, always intrigued me as to why they are coming from the east side of london road ? was this because they went through the gorbals and over the bridge at dalmarnock ? did they pass by anoynes house, did you see them out the windae ?

couple of other things strike me, look at the players wives smoning on the bus, look at kelly first of the plane as if he had won it himself.

that coal motor, no health and safety concerns then

what time did they actually get to celtic park at, was the main gates just left open.

the happy celt at the beginning, norman wisdom ish but an iconic celt in his own right, what a happy fella

Trabzonspor have received an email from Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson outlining intentions to offer around £7.5M for Turkey international GK Uğurcan Çakır.

  22. Before Wednesday dens Park is deemed unplayable. The game must be played and so is moved to a neutral venue. Played behind closed doors? Handing sevco a huge advantage.

It will be played at a VAR approved location, either Aberdeen or Perth.
