Celtic fans to blame, apparently

902

I see Celtic fans are being blamed for rumours of Newco’s administration by their former manager, Ally McCoist. He could argue that. Alternatively, you could suggest that a business unable to secure bank borrowing, dependent on funding from directors, who will soon be forced to find £11m to make a share offer, has created more than enough financial uncertainty without Celtic fans’ assistance.

McCoist suggested “even the biggest Celtic fans in the country” do not want to see Newco go into administration. Not so sure you are right there, Ally. Personally, I would find it a funny, but it is not going to change anything. It would not lead to relegation and will not change the title race in any way.

The most significant outcome of administration could be forcing control from Dave King. Which would be a source of enormous regret.

You hang in there, Dave.

The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

  1. cosy corner bhoy ,you got a problem with me, if such spell it out thats three times ive posted about john mcormack and three times you have ignored me, if you didnt see the post thats excusable if you did see the post and chose to ignore, thats not celtic im afraid.

  2. lots of similarities between city and us in this game!! They’ve been running on fumes for a while, they’ve found it hard to beat the wee teams in the run up to this one. The system of play is similar. It requires a bit of tweaking. It’s been worked out. There must surely be a way of punishing the teams who press High in numbers. There have to be gaps if you just have to have two or three main styles and formations which you switch in order to make lesser teams unsure of how to try and put you off your stride?

    Interesting.

    Gordon64,

I am an Non-Denom Celtic Supporter from Bridgeton,it was hard going in the 50`s and 60`s,but i have just read a brilliant potted history of the East-End where I grew up and would recommend it to those who haven`t read it,

its called ; Glengarry-Glasgow `s Sacred Heart,by Shamrock, cant do the link but google it.

*Excellent story, Father McDonnell who is mentioned in it formed his own regiment called the Glengarry Fencibles, in which he served as chaplain, the first Roman Catholic chaplain in the British Army since the reformation.

They were original supposed to be posted to France but instead ended up at Boolavouge, and when he saw who they were fighting against withdrew and requested a posting to Upper Canada.

He became very friendly with the novelist John Galt who was the first superintendent of the Canada Company that had been formed to populate a part of what is now Southern Ontario, then known as Upper Canada.

Although a staunch presby John Galt was very impressed by his countryman Father McDonnell and gave him a tract of land in what at that time was orange Ontario to build a church. The church is now the impressive Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate and can be seen for miles around.

Father McDonnell would later become the Archbishop of Kingston and the Islands and Alexandria Ontario is named after him. One of the reasons this interested me was 2 of the younger TTs went tae uni up in Guelph and of course the town called Alexandria, the namesake of which is my birthplace at hame.

Incidentally the Turkey Red dye would be the reason for the growth in the towns, villages and hamlets of the Vale if Leven and Renton due to the minerals in the River Leven with one of the factories being called the “United Turkey Red”, the street where management lived in row houses India Street and the tract of land on the banks of the Leven beside Our Lady and St Marks church the old drying greens. This is also where the Highlanders and Irish lived.

    Good thanks.

I agree, but sometimes these things happen, we never know what is really going on in their heads, one of the dogs away this week had me in tears, first time ever been like that letting a dog go, we took in a Pointer a few months back, she was used as a breeding machine, had only ever known darkness and lived in a cage, shocking stuff, anyways she took to me big time, an eight year old pup, she is going where she will get loved and more attention that I can give her.

Hope you find an ethical breeder, they are few and far between mi amigo, trust me, we clean up their mess, even the so called good ones.

My comment was sort of off-hand. I certainy didn’t intend to diminish the rescue work that you and others do. I trust/hope that I didn’t offend.

I actually have gone to the local SPCA and saw a lovely old boy … and the thought of giving him a nice home is appealing … but, honestly, his age is a concern …. after the last year, not sure how I would handle another loss so soon … hence, leaning towards a pup.

Agree that there seem to be a lot of sketchy breeders … hence, taking my time to investigate …

honestly, really looking forward to having a new pup around the house.

Didn’t think you meant any offence whatsoever, I know you wouldn’t, aye a pup would prob be better for you, we get so attached to them, I try not to, but it’s impossible, we are only scraping the surface, but every little helps, keeps me skint right enough, but I would only blow it in the bars so :-)

You take your time, the right dog will find you.

  8. Interesting second half at Liverpool.

High energy pressing from Liverpool, including winning key tackles opened up a 3 goal difference. It helps when you have a guys like Salah/Mane etc to take advantage when a forced error occurs.

However Liverpool stopped pressing so high (tactics or energy drop?) and City made a bit of a come back without being commanding.

It suggests that if the way to beat teams that play from the back (like Celtic try) is for the opposition to high press, then you stop taking risks and vary the play to play longer and win second ball or do best to keep mistakes under pressure to a minimum by just clearing your lines row Z style until opposition energy level drops.

More likely to work in Scotland where opposition player athleticism is not likely to be in the top bracket and so high press less sustainable.

The alternative of course is to have players so comfortable on the ball at the back that they will not get caught. Players that cost the kind of money City have spent, but today Liverpool, by application and high energy ,did force errors and had players of talent to cash in.

I suppose I’m saying we need stronger personnel if we have to play a different second ball game from the normal possession one.

  9. right does anyone on here no ccbhoy ,cause im getting annoyed, if he has got a problem lets put it out there for ffs, 3 times ive posted about john mcormack and 3 times silence, if youve got a problem the least you can do is tell me what it is, sorry this isnt the celtic i know.

Since Phil predicted administration they’ve added half a team.

Yes thinking the same thing think you need to remember Phil probably fluffs out any info he gets ….

That being said lets say Forrest have not yet paid for the 6 mill rated wonder kid mckay yet

The admin stuff is more wishful thinking by us all

  18. Big Packy,

Chill out buddy. My posts on here are routinely uncommented on. My pram is surrounded by toys ;-)

As was mentioned earlier, CCB is off in foreign at the moment, so may not have read anything you’ve directed towards him. Don’t always take it as a “slight” just because someone doesn’t respond immediately. Folks have other stuff to do, as you have.

Maybe other teams only trust a loan so they don’t get Lee Wallaced :-) from the previous entity

I have always wondered how wee Budgie or her predecessors never complained about getting stung for Lee the Snake (in the grass :-)

  20. Even if the go into admin, or get liquidated again, they will as ever get a leg up by the powers that be, no way will they have to start in the fourth tier this time, they changed the rules so they did.

They will still be called rangers, still play out of the bigot dome, still have the same scum support, still break the rules, still have the referees onside, our suits will still bend over backwards to get the bigot pound, it will be same old same old.

I know Petec has mentioned his Bhoy wanting to beat whatever form they take, my nephews give me grief when I try to “educate” them, I think Dallas Dallas junior doesn’t listen to his father when he says the same, I know some on here call it the “bigot pound” fair play, in my opinion the young team treat them as the same cheats they have always been, when the “kids” get older they might understand but trust me young (& old) still like to beat whatever entity that appears BUT in my opinion there is a big difference these days ….. the Huns are broken, they can’t even speak about football, it’s magic… great times indeed

  22. Gerry

Thankfully I virtually never meet any of them, and yes, at times they do appear to be broken, but when they get a win like the did against us a couple of weeks back, or they win a prestigious tourny like they just have in the US, they are back, back on track for their 55, back for the umpteenth time, but back all the same, at the end of the day it’s no their fault, they are huns after all, it’s them that control them who are the real problem, they are the ones who need sorted.
