Celtic fans to blame, apparently

902

I see Celtic fans are being blamed for rumours of Newco’s administration by their former manager, Ally McCoist. He could argue that. Alternatively, you could suggest that a business unable to secure bank borrowing, dependent on funding from directors, who will soon be forced to find £11m to make a share offer, has created more than enough financial uncertainty without Celtic fans’ assistance.

McCoist suggested “even the biggest Celtic fans in the country” do not want to see Newco go into administration. Not so sure you are right there, Ally. Personally, I would find it a funny, but it is not going to change anything. It would not lead to relegation and will not change the title race in any way.

The most significant outcome of administration could be forcing control from Dave King. Which would be a source of enormous regret.

You hang in there, Dave.

The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

Well,I’m shocked that the mods have seen fit to delete one of my posts again. And as usual, without a nod nor explanation.

There I was praising the much-missed MACJAY in response to another much-loved poster.

    ACCESS DENIED.

Utter garbage, this. If you take the time to trawl through the posts-and I’ve no problem with that-I think it’s only fair and polite to explain.

The only people that want to watch Celtic play Ajax, are Celtic and Ajax fans. That’s the problem. History counts for nothing.

I know, but in a Euro league, they would be sell outs.

Thats all he is saying and I have to say,he is right. He,like anyone who would put money into such a league, are all thinking the same

Can you imagine any of those games at Celtic Park, not being close to selloutIf we were challenging.

It’s a good feeling when you meet someone who looks you in the eye and not your wallet. Give him my best, buy him a pint on me,and that will be two I owe you.

    You’re a lucky man.

  5. THE HUDDLE

The way things stand at the moment I would tend to agree with you.

Put the idea on tv on the weeks there’s no champions league and people will tune in looking for a footie fix. Share the money made in a more equal fashion and allow the clubs to start to afford to keep their best players and maybe buy some of the champions league squad players, improving the standard as you go.

This could narrow the chasm that is now appearing in not just domestic but european football.

I think the viewing figures would only rise and eventually create such a challenge that UEFA would have to look at changing it’s current policies of only assisting clubs from 5 countries. IMHO

    KEEP THE FAITH

I agree, the games would be sell outs, and the league format would maybe work to keep the interest up.

But I can’t see where the TV money would come from, they’d sell the rights to someone but not for decent money.

100 % agreement. The best poster on here, well, apart from me.Take it to the Court Of Human Rights.I will back till your nose bleeds.

  8. BMCUW,

i read a couple of posts you made about Macjay,

you sure that you have had one deleted

  9. THE_HUDDLE on 13TH JANUARY 2018 10:19 PM,

Yes I know. But as my mate said, how many people in Scotland,Portugal,Holland, and the rest of the countries involved, would watch this more than the CL,where the have no teams to watch. Can you see where he is coming from.I can. After sitting here thinking about what he was saying.

I have a feeling, with the audience, there could be a few sponsors and TV companies, who cant get the CL would be quite keen on it.As he said to me,”Its all about packaging”.

  10. The Champions League, unfortunately, is still where it’s at. It’s our Holy Grail, financially.

The format however will eventually turn people off, particularly those in The Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium etc.

Only then will there be serious thought given to a fairer alternative.

  11. Listen everybody. This is an American Entrepreneur giving his opinions on what we could do to get out of our league, and start making real money. He has some Celtic leanings,as forefathers went to the States,as immigrants.I have been great friends with him for more than 5 years, and he is a “Real business man””not”Rainjurs man”.

Talking to him about Celtic, and giving him the full history, the posts I put on earlier,is what he came up with.

  12. Turkeybhoy

I’m glad you put that post on. It’s always good to hear other views, especially if they are not views from someone not steeped in our game.

If nothing else it stimulates debate.

  13. GUTENBERG on 13TH JANUARY 2018 10:32 PM

Yes I agree,at the moment. But just think,if there were no teams from their country, chasing the championship which games do you think they would watch, with proper advertising, and TV..Eventually,it would become even more a closed shop in the CL,but with a lot less people watching.

I thought his ideas were sound.

  14. Hope you are all enjoying the feast of St Mungo who died on this day in 614 and still makes exceedingly good beer. Hh

  15. I want to be unfazed re the Champions League but have to admit that I’m looking forward to Real- PSG and Chelski-Barca.

Would love a tourney though that we could genuinely compete in.

You know,if it had been some drunk guy sitting next to me in the pub,I would never have posted this. This guy is not that.He has been listening to me going on for donkeys, and I thought he was only listening, not really paying attention, but I was wrong. His whole working life has been based on sports. How he made his money.

I have to say,a much better idea, than the Atlantic league.Something we spoke about tonight, which he countered with

“Whats more appealing to sponsors and TV companies,a league made up of “European Champions”,or a league of” Nordic Non Coms”

  17. Anyway, goodnight to everyone.Sad tonight for my Nottingham mateswwho are all Forest fans.

    Bless them.

There’s too many big clubs now excluded, including ours.

What a post! I saw that show in 84, think it was in Lille, I lived in Brussels at the time, went with a good Tim mate, James Peter Kelly, lost touch and wish I hadn’t, a real good guy.
