Celtic fans to blame, apparently

902

I see Celtic fans are being blamed for rumours of Newco’s administration by their former manager, Ally McCoist. He could argue that. Alternatively, you could suggest that a business unable to secure bank borrowing, dependent on funding from directors, who will soon be forced to find £11m to make a share offer, has created more than enough financial uncertainty without Celtic fans’ assistance.

McCoist suggested “even the biggest Celtic fans in the country” do not want to see Newco go into administration. Not so sure you are right there, Ally. Personally, I would find it a funny, but it is not going to change anything. It would not lead to relegation and will not change the title race in any way.

The most significant outcome of administration could be forcing control from Dave King. Which would be a source of enormous regret.

You hang in there, Dave.

The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant

Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.

Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.

Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.

  1. BMCUW.

Yes that’s right. There was league reconstruction so they avoided relegation.

Jimmynotpaul, Pollok missed a penalty plus their goalie played for over an hour with an injured ankle as they had no sub goalie.

Tony will be delighted as they have six points , six goals and none conceded in their two league games played since the turn of the year.

Who did Cumbernauld get in the Central League cup?

  12. Ok.Just in from a night out with my multi millionare american friend, whom i have got to know well for 5 years at the Marina. He is a guy that knows the sport industry, inside out.Thats how he made his money in the States.

We were watching the Forest v Villa game tonight, and again he brought up the same point. Why dont you have a Champions Winners League. He was saying, you could have,

    Celtic,

    Aberdeen,

    Rangers,

    Forest

    Aston Villa

    Newcastle

    Porto

    Benfica

    Ajax

    Feyenoord

    Anderlecht

    Steua Bucharest

    Sevilla

making it up to 16,with other winners of European trophys,or inviting other runner ups..Every game would be sold out,and the advertising would bring in millionsThe teams could still play in their own cup comps,to keep a national interest. He said with the amount of TV companies vying for the CL,many are going to be pissed off,but would be delighted to take on this. Thinking was sound.Plenty of local derbys, plenty of grudge matches. His bes t thought was,The league splits into top 8,bottom 8,the top 8 going for the league, the bottom 8 going for the cup.Everyone having something to play for.

    What do people think.

  13. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Jimmynotpaul, Paddy would probably want Forth to get through as it might be tough for him playing against a team in the hoops. Lol

A good win , even in a friendly , for Cumbernauld today.

I saw Bathgate play Clydebank in a Scottish cup replay ten years ago. At that time they had the likes of ex Celt Barry Elliot and the late Paul McGrillen playing for them along with 3 other ex premier league players in their thirties. They must have been paying a fortune , in Junior terms, in wages.

Bada I expect they will parade their mickey mouse trophy on an open top bus from the airport to Ibrox. Hh

They will charge the vermin a fiver a time…..

  15. Anyway, thats just the thoughts of an American entrepreneur, who very kindly came to watch me win my semi final of the Darts tonight.I was quite wonderful tonight with a 148 finish in a game.An 102,and a 120,to boot.

  17. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Btw,there’s at least five teams there I wouldn’t watch playing Celtic. And that’s the problem

Your history counts for eff all if you’re not doing it on the pitch, and more importantly,on the TV screen.

When El Classico kicks off at a time to suit Chinese and Indian audiences, that’s when you know.

    That’s when you know,mate.

  18. Bobby, see if I was a gambler,I would bet with him all the time.He is into college football,Baseball, knows every stat,of every player. That was his game.I have got him into football, and he is the same.Studying everything, but we only bet for fun.The reason I dont bet with him is,he loses a fortune some months, but wins it back others.I could not live like that.A big fearty.

  19. What is the Stars on

How about when an American Billionaire buys Manchester United and moves them lock stock and 2 smoking barrells to Los Angeles and changes their name to LA Red Devils.

What do you do if one of the clubs get liquidated?

Who would be the governing body?

There is plenty ex sfa dummies in Scotland out of work.

I understand that, but you can see what he is thinking..I mean,he is a Yank, yet he knew Forest and Villa had won the big cup.He has no baggage,he only sees, opportunity.

  22. Turkeybhoy

Good idea, but wouldn’t have any teams from a defunct cup that qualified for said defunct cup by default.

Apart from that I’d support your American friend :-)

  23. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

Oh,and at least three teams haven’t won the big cup.

I get what your friend is saying, but, really,it boils down to one thing.

How many people are gonna watch it?

If people are willing to pay squillions to cover the billions the tv companies lay out, that business model will continue. And the companies who have already invested in it are petrified of losing out and losing their investment.

Think about it,it will cost an extra £1bn from previous for our new contract. It will cost us £3bn in lost subscriptions and another £4bn in ad revenue.

It’s not a difficult equation to work out.

And with the very strong possibility of outside bidders, well, that bubble ain’t bursting tomorrow.
