Champions League football this season has enabled Celtic to achieve a remarkable set of interim financial results for the period 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2012. Turnover was up 71%, a stunning-ageddon figure.
Ticket sales and other stadium revenue was up marginally, to £18.598m (2011: £16.446m), as was merchandising, to £9.847m (2001: £7.821m), both reflecting the ancillary value of Champions League participation, but the big increase was in TV and media income, £21.613m, up from a paltry £5.004m in the same period of 2011.
The only amber flag on the results was the increase in operating costs, from £28.388m to £36.961m, a 30% increase, which will reflect higher bonus payments for Champions League participation, higher wage costs and a more general increase in running costs.
Pre-tax profit came in at £14.944m, leaving net bank debt at £130k.
These are fantastic results from a well-run club which will enable ever-more solid foundations to be laid. We are also one of the few clubs to qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League AND to do so profitably. Congratulations to all.
I’m participating on an online STV preview at 18:30 tonight, looking forward to the small challenge ahead. Hope you can join us.
The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.
I’ll see you there.

Celtic will likely have more cash in the bank at the end of June than Chuckles raised in his IPO.
Celtic have £130k of debt. A winding up order must surely be in the offing.

GREEDY CELTIC HOLD ON TO THEIR PROFITS
Exclusive by Keith Jackson
The Daily Record can exclusively reveal Parkhead supremo Peter Lawwell has rejected calls to share his clubs profits with impoverished Scottish clubs. Whilst many clubs struggle to make ends meet and face armageddon the East End club, founded on charitable principles, flaunt their interim figures to a shocked Scottish game.
A source close the SFA says “at a time when we are making attempts to bring all of Scottish football under one umbrella, and move forward in brotherhood, one club is using divisive show-boating like this in an attempt to destabilise the entire game for their own selfish purposes”
“If the game in Scotland is to move on the playing field must be levelled and I call on fans of all clubs to make their voices heard and try and bring some balance back to the game”

Not entirely correct. The Market Pool share is not known or distributed fully until all revenue from marketing etc has been accounted for at the end of the season. Chances are there is still half of the apprx £10M market pool plus £3M from this round’s bonus to come, plus of course whatever the bonus is for the next round :¬)
Doc – picked up uyour message at 14.37 – Thanks.
Ghirls arrived with a suprise present – the 1st Champions League signed tie, delivered, for Oscar funds, through Lisa Hague.
They have now posted a photo with both Lisa and CQN twitter (I don’t know how this works), but you can catch a photo of a very happy Bhoy on either.

Is this our record turnover for the first 6 months of the financial year?
Regarding the interim results never mind getting the season ticket prices down……..get the price of drink in the lounges down first
I’m somewhat surprised at the increase in operating expenses
Whilst I accept that the players contracts will have included hefty bonuses for CL qualification and further bonuses for Last16 qualification
I had thought that the wage bill had been reduced in the summer with a decent number of players leaving …

The problem with A list players is the A list wages that they want and the unrest that is caused in the squad with one or two players earning much more than the rest
Our formula in the last couple of years has been spot on …if we can hold onto Vic,Hooper etc for the next few years then it will be perfect
Bada bing
Yes..FF , Mulgrew ,Watt …anyone else ?
Reading Forza Italian Site on how to beat Celtic. Dont concede early, have a go at Izzy defend deep and dont give away set pieces near the box.
See how that pans out for them…
From Rogue Leader`s link on the previous page. Quite funny, really:
“Green said: “If you look at the balance sheets at the end of next season you should see the strength of the two companies.
“We are in the Third Division and Celtic are in the SPL and what I’d like you to do is promise me at the end of this season, when all the games are played, examine the balance sheets of the clubs and tell me which one is the strongest?
“Then let’s see who has got the strongest balance sheet.
“We’ve not got the debt that any of these clubs have and on the last day of the season I would really enjoy some clever financial analyst looking at the balance sheets and debt-to-equity ratio of every club in Scotland.”
I wonder if the “Journalist” promised? 0:-)

Talking of fighting funds :))

RFFF funds paid only 1 creditor; DAFC. Rest went on RFC staff/maintenance & now legal fees. #RFFF – sevconian for throwing money away.

@corsica1968 was the RFFF not meant to be a charity fund?

Interesting that only creditor paid by RFFF is SFL club DAFC at time they needed votes to get in SFL1. #Misanthrope – a generous sevconian

Indeed – i thought that was a little odd.
Mulgrew, Watt, Matthews, Forrest.
I also think that Miku will be on a fair wedge, and we have added Lassad and Ambrose to the group.
Paul, what did we make in the 2nd half of last season? (trying to work out if its possible turnover will finally top £100M), what do you reckon turnover and profit will look like for the year?
Also, for the non accountants amongst us, If we have a profit of £14m and bank debt of £130K does that mean the £14m has gone to pay the debt and we are left with -£130K or is the £14m elsewhere?
….PFayr – 17:12 on 11 February, 2013
Did the story not suggest that was in part due to increase costs of the extra homes games, catering staff etc etc
