Celtic interims stunning-ageddon

858

Champions League football this season has enabled Celtic to achieve a remarkable set of interim financial results for the period 1 June 2012 to 31 December 2012.  Turnover was up 71%, a stunning-ageddon figure.

Ticket sales and other stadium revenue was up marginally, to £18.598m (2011: £16.446m), as was merchandising, to £9.847m (2001: £7.821m), both reflecting the ancillary value of Champions League participation, but the big increase was in TV and media income, £21.613m, up from a paltry £5.004m in the same period of 2011.

The only amber flag on the results was the increase in operating costs, from £28.388m to £36.961m, a 30% increase, which will reflect higher bonus payments for Champions League participation, higher wage costs and a more general increase in running costs.

Pre-tax profit came in at £14.944m, leaving net bank debt at £130k.

These are fantastic results from a well-run club which will enable ever-more solid foundations to be laid.  We are also one of the few clubs to qualify for the latter stages of the Champions League AND to do so profitably. Congratulations to all.

I’m participating on an online STV preview at 18:30 tonight, looking forward to the small challenge ahead.  Hope you can join us.

The event is part of our 125 4 125 campaign – central to reinvigorating the charitable spirit which is part of the club we love. It will be a family occasions, tickets are available at £10 for adults and £5 for children. The night has been organised by several fans working in conjunction with the people at Celtic Charity, so please do your best to support this great occasion. Individual tickets or tables are available, details here.

I’ll see you there.

so simplistically, Celtic qualifying for the group stage guarantees them an extra £20m in revenue approx.

Rather puts in context Mr mccoists part in the death of rangers.

rangers who went to the wall for debts of approx £10m five months after mccoists failed miserably to get them to the group stage.

    well done Ally.

  2. Watching the news and some of rhe proposals re. Scottish Independence make a complete mockery of it.

As a non-resident I have no say in the matter, but if I was a believer in Scotland having an independent status in the international community I’d be a wee bit annoyed, to say the least.

    Just sayin’.

It is inconceivable that Celtic will not be flush with cash come year end. I expect in the order of £20M, less the Coop Loan of £10M, giving net cash of £10M.

There will of course be the usual £2-3M of ‘Exceptional’ costs at year, mostly related to the write-down of Mo Bangura’s book value plus whatever the contract commitment on his wages is. Ditto anyone else who’s carrying value doesn’t reflect his worth. These hit the P&L not cash, as I’m quite sure you know.

The debate will move shortly about what to do with the ‘mountain’ of cash Celtic will have at year end. My expectation is that a little will be punted on footballers, but the majority will be set aside for capital projects and reserves.

Celtic’s losses over the past decade are so huge that it is quite likely that the company will never pay Corporation Tax again in our life times, unless of course there is major change in the European football scene.

    Here to help, however patronisingly.

  9. Pigalle. Wife is not the most fitba savvy! Asked her to record a match for me once but I didn’t want to know the score. All went well, avoided score on way home, sat down, Guinness settling nicely, and she says ” Don’t know why ye want to watch it anyway, there’s nae goals!”

  10. ‘operating costs, from £28.388m to £36.961m, a 30% increase, which will reflect higher bonus payments for Champions League participation, higher wage costs and a more general increase in running costs’. 3 home c/l games, plus travel/ hotel etc… and player staff bonus will be costly i suspect.

i get lost when i hear 14 million pre-tax profit, wipe out 7 million debt, where does the other 7 million go? confused

these accounts will not take into account 3 million bonus for last 16 place, 3 million from said game and final payment pool of maybe 5 million = another 11 million.

hooper and vic will likely be going for combined 20 million this summer, hopefully after c/l group stages have been negotiated.

think lenny might get 5 million to spend in the summer

Turin is one of the coldest places in Italy during the winter.

The current temperature is -2C. It is expected to reach -7C over the next 24 hours.

The players are used to it and will adapt accordingly – unfortunately!

That’s very difficult to deal with.

You have my sympathy, sir. :0)

  13. Glendalystonsils likes a mr whippy with his lime green jelly on

I’m really worried about this £130k of debt.

Maybe we should ask the little Yorkshire terrier running Scotland’s only debt free (sic) club for some advice on how to manage our affairs properly.

  14. Your welcome Verdantvic I hope your dream comes true.

Pfayr, If Big Efe is back tomorrow I personally would not

play him why? because he has just stepped off of an

Airplane after a twenty or so hours flight and he has been

playing in an energy and mentally taxing tournament so

Neil should give him the required rest period

Auldheid – my beef is with Celtic pulling the wool over supporters eyes by somehow, against all the odds, having a small net bank debt. This is then used to ensure that Celtic continue to charge very high season ticket rates while actually investing very little in the playing squad.

Fair point Neg and well said I agree about them trying to pull the wool over ones eyes

they have to cut there cloth accordingly as regards to running cost’s but they are

coming out with the same old financial spiel like they did in 2003 when the Hoops

reached the UEFA Cup Final and considering that they have reduced the wage

bill since then by a considerable amount and they are getting a lot more money

this year than 2003 the said financial sums do not add up in other words their

so called Accountants are on the serious fiddle and their is deception going down

because their operating cost don’t add up to 100 Mil or there about’s that does

not make sense it’s about time the Board @ CP start to be honest after all you

can fool some people sometime but you can’t fool all the people all the time

They have to be more precise and clear as to which amount is going to where/

who/& How much or else they will lose trust and credibility with us all

No more lies please I’m a share holder and I along with other share holders

will want to see more transparency with their operating cost’s more clarity

or we might as well close the doors and turn off the lights if they think that

biting the hand that feeds you is acceptable
