Celtic should accept Wilson ban offer

1201

Celtic should accept the offer of a two match ban for Kelvin Wilson following an incident at Dens Park on Boxing Day.  He has never been an aggressive player, so there is no need to assume intent, but an elbow to the face is a painful experience and potentially dangerous.  These are the rules and they are there for good reason.

  1. I suppose it would have been difficult for the SFA to ignore the clamour to punish Kelvin. Charlie Mulgrew and James Forrest are victims of the visit to Dundee too and will miss the match tomorrow. :-)

  2. Stormin norman schwartzkopf pops his clogs at 78.

Come onty thatcher… Make my year complete

  3. OK.

I am reluctant to defend bad behaviour.

    NEVER have done. NEVER will.

Some of our Young Turks let themselves fall into a trap very carefully set for them.

I don’t excuse ANY bad behaviour.

No matter. Be assured that the headlines that we read today were planned & orchestrated well in advance.

    Festive time.

3 days of celebrating the joys that have been our season so far.

Right. Let’s try to think what kind of fixture might guarantee a problem.

What better than an away game at a club with a long history of antipathy to Celtic, ..& everything that Celtic stands for ?

    We were SET UP.

Some of our youngsters fell for it.

Am I excusing bad behaviour ?

    NO, I am not.

We have to be smarter than those who cannot suffer to see us where we are.

We are in exactly the place that myself & those who went before me have dreamt about.

Don’t expect that to be accepted.

  4. EDB I had a very happy Christmas day over at my daughters who played hostess to the family. I’ve found the best way is to go up early and let the grandkids jump over you for a while before dinner, that way afterwards they are very slightly more likely to leave you alone as you vegetate on the couch.

I hope you and yours had a similarly happy day.

If that really was the case, we would have been at tynecastle, or rugby park.

  6. Kelvin has no case to answer…Vincent Lunny..(son of my auld schoolteacher)..a visit to specsavers should help.

  7. Kilbowie kelt/ stringer bell- remember- when the fixtures were drawn up in the summer this was a fixture v “Club 12” which if the SFA/SPL had their way would have been Sevco at Ibrox, and would almost certainly have been an evening kick off with all day available for bevvying.

  8. P67, must disagree with accepting the offered 2 game ban, it must be challenged.

On another note does anyone know if there are tickets available for tomorrow’s game, my 7 year old wants me to take him to an away game, only been to fir park with him twice as it’s the nearest to Cambuslang.

I checked the Hibs website but says nothing about selling to away fans unless I missed it. Any help is much appreciated.

  10. If the club accept Wilson’s ban they should do so with a warning that refereeing standards better improve.

There hasn’t been much evidence of a clean up in the wake of Dougiegate and Dallas.

Watching a re-run of Juventus v Roma on Al Jazeera.

3-0 to Juventus after 40 minutes, they look no bad and theres a bit of concentrated atmosphere in the Juventus stadium for once.

Id settle for 3-0 in the home game right now.

  12. For those of you wanting a break from the usual festive films then Film4 at 11.25 tonight – Trainspotting. A classic!

  13. Edward Ursus @18:11 I find that Christmas Day is the one day when no matter what, weans will get up earlier than you. And last longer.

The purpose of my questions was to try to paint the setting and tone of the hearing KW might face.

Certainly it is not a criminal trial as the barrack room lawyers seem to think.

Nor is it an appeal since no finding has yet been made.

It has more of the hallmarks of a game of Russian Roulette.

That’s why I advocated raising the stakes and holding the gun to the SFA’s head by threatening to go outwith the narrow rules and time limits they set. Make complaints of assault to the police. The SFA and their rules are not protecting players.

Beram Kayal is the latest high profile victim in a long list of career threatening attacks.

Do you think his assailant would plead guilty if charged?

Celtic will most likely look at this case in isolation, and in the light of the evidence against KW. I do not know what this evidence is.

A close, freeze-frame look at the youtube footage suggests a right elbow followed up by a left swingback. Both of which appear to make contact.

  14. EstadioNacional, I’m not on much myself, as I said to EDB I had a very good Christmas and I hope the same can be said for you and your family.

I still look for the Rangers result after each game but on a Saturday I’m normally busy at amateur games, if my own team isn’t playing I try to take in either one of our rivals or watch a game looking for players, so I’m still getting my football fix. Much as I love the amateurs though I’ll be hoping the pro team wins in the weekend derby :-)

  15. Ntassoolla I find the concept of involving police and looking for an assault case a difficult one to deal with. Football is a physical game (despite the best efforts of those at the top to ruin it and make it more like ballet) almost everygame we see actions that would be criminal if done in the street. Possibly the clearest cut one is punching (though perhaps the legal eagles would disagree). A couple of players go for the ball, both go down, one punches out and the two of them swap half a dozen punches, I know it would be illegal in the street but tempers do flare on the pitch and the courts would be overwhelmed if every case on the pitch ended in court. The other consideration is that it could end up giving hundreds of thousands of young men convictions for a violent crime possibly ruining future travel and employment prospects. Unless the severity makes it absolutely necessary I would prefer not to have the police involved at any level.

one can only hope that your post about being set up was satire… Everybody – except the perpetrators – is being blamed. Today a gleeful media were able to relish giving us bad publicity. Yet many people in the CQN bubble seem to only see conspiracy. Our club were quite right to condemn this idiocy. It is important to feature this as one does not wish for a repeat.

  18. VP, its a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. Just hope my carry out lasts to such a late hour – its usually tanned by that time of night. You take care and have a guid New Year.

  19. TheBoyJinky, I don’t think any of the Rangers hierarchy will have said that to him. From what I know the players is adamant that it was said and I have n reason to doubt him. My own feeling is that someone either a player or a peripheral figure has said it to him. Whoever did say it was wrong to do so, whether it be making the sign of the cross, (either Roman r Orthodox versions) or making a praying hands sign as Mr Andrews used to do a player should be free to show signs of his faith even (especially) if you disagree with the faith involved.

Well thought I could slip away for a few pints in the pub before a visit to the local supermarket.

Now before I left I said the shower basin is blocked so I’ll need to get down to the supermarket for some fluids. Now does Miss Prestonpans (the younger) (a) wait until I return (b) wash yur heed while the basin fills up and overflows into the floor thereby flooding the kitchen or (c) stop turn off the shower.

Well what do you think a 18 year old would do!?!

  21. Ntassoolla In a deliberate attempt to inflict injury under the terms you describe I would say that would be one of the cases covered where I said it’s sometimes necessary to involve the police.

We have kayal and izzy raising their hands to their gods at kick off.

I love that… If you have faith it can work wonders

Thinking back to the gazza flute incident… Think it was rumoured one of the local players told him to do that … Daft gazza would fall for any line

Such a disaster what has come of that football genius
