Glad you managed to wangle a way home.

An epic journey to end an epic trip!

I had the pleasure of meeting yer bhoy before and it was no surprise that you were an absolute gent and a joy to share a few beers with.

Look forward to seeing some of the photos you captured but can you please please and pretty please delete that close up wan you took of me or at the very least….make sure it never sees the light of day.

  2. By the way, I can’t say I think it is a good idea to sign Hayes, especially if Ryan Christie would be part of the deal. Imo, while I know they play in different positions, we have more need of Christie.

  3. DBBIA,

For me, the feeling at full time was up there with the 65 Final and Lisbon. A privilege to watch Celtic this season. Football played as it should be played.

An epic journey indeed, I would have given up and allowed the bevvy to take over.

I have just dropped my lhad at Edinburgh Airport, he is on Ryan Air to Stansted so hopefully he will get on okay.

He has had a blast of a weekend, climbing Goat Fell, at the final, out to a Lisbon party straight after and he even managed a few hours here with us.

Leave a great big hole in our lives when he heads back south. HH

From that article, I think Patrick Roberts gets Celtic, if only a deal can be done eh?

We’re lucky [blessed?] to have so many to choose from.

Speaking personally the greatest feeling was when the second goal went in against St Johnstone, and not just because it was scored by the greatest living Norwegian.

    It sparked pure Timdemonium.

I followed home and away throw the evil 9-in-a-row years and and got married 1 week before the St Johnstone game……so was on Honeymoon and missed the celebration.

The guy who got my ticket has been explaining to me ever since that I gave him the best day of his life!!!

I did celebrate in the Bahamas tho…….!

  11. I don`t know from where the Jonny Hayes / Ryan Christie originates but , for what it is worth, I think JH is Aberdeen`s most dangerous player but I don`t think he would be so good for us. Jonny flies and crosses at speed against retreating defences. In our games, the defences are already there. Unless we use Boyata as our sole striker, I don`t think the estimable Jonny would be such a hit.

Nice to meet you on Saturday.

Ta for the badge buying and the good chat.

Some day it was. Like you though stopping the ten is up there as my most emotional Celtic day.

Incidentally, I am really preferring the Ribera del Duero wines over Rioja at the moment.

  14. Folks,

I have missed the ST deadline for renewing by ST.

Anyone know if I will get the chance to renew before it goes to the waiting list ?

Already been on the fone to the TO, but seems they are on holiday today.

Any info, advice or help would be much appreciated.

I think the least we will get is first refusal on Roberts. Personally I am a wee bit optimistic that he will come back for at least one more season.

I’m even more optimistic that we will not sign any squad players as opposed to two or three quality players. One young and two with champions league experience. I think if Brendan Rodgers asks for the funds the board will sanction it.

  16. Christie scenario is all going to be about Rodgers impressions. Dons clearly want him back, and that is because he’s impressed them and they’re losing a number of players.

If Rodgers rates him, then either he stays here or goes on another season loan. If Rodgers doesn’t rate him, I’d see him going on a perm deal.

I would not be too surprised to see an experienced German central defender playing in the hoops next season.

    Just a wee gut feeling.

  18. A Stor

I agree, might be quite a bit of manoevering to thin some of the squad players out. Add 1 or 2 quality performers.

Will also be interesting to see what we do if silly money is offered for Dembele or Tierney. Will tell us a lot about true ambition.

Great to be speaking in such positive terms about Celtic.

It’s a tad hot here for the vino tintos at the mo, but the Riberas are in general top quality, usually a bit more expensive but worth it in the main, enjoy :-)

  20. I was to young to go to Lisbon in 67 but have followed Celtic in Europe for the last 35 years. I’ve had some great trips and brilliant memories but the last 3 days in Lisbon are up there with the best.

We arrived at the chapel straight from the airport with cases in hand and what a humbling and uplifting experience. The locals gave over their chapel on the feast of the ascension to Celtic supporters while they held mass in a side chapel. The feeling as Walk On was played on a flute while communion was given and the voices of the Celtic supporter slowly built up to a crescendo was incredible. The amount of money that went into the collection plate as the Euro notes built up will help this poor parish for a long time.

Then onto the stadium which although I’ve been in before never disappointed. I was able to get my pic with the plaque at the changing rooms and a big thanks goes out to Fred who was one of the guys involved in the unveiling and also Paulo the stadium Director.

Next was Pink Street and the party commenced and what a night that was. I got a picture with Auld Jimmy who had his original ticket from the game with him and met some great people who had made the trip from all over the world.

I must have been asked about 6 times by locals and tourist if Celtic were playing and the look on their faces when you said no and had to explain the reason you were there was incredible.

Friday was chill out day sitting in cafes and sipping wine but I was lucky enough to meet father and son Daniel and Danny from the Port Glasgow CSC, real Celtic Supporters never disappoint me and these two guys embodied everything that is good about our club.

Friday night we went exploring and found a wee cantina restaurant in a side street that normally you wouldn’t walk down on a dark night but the hospitality was incredible and again we were asked our story by the staff and the locals.

Saturday took care of itself we went to the George pub which we had found the day before as we new the Irish bars would be rammed and we wanted to enjoy the game. Danny and Danile also turned up and along with a few other tims we had a great day and when big Tam Rogic stuck in the winner the place erupted.

Finished the day off sipping more wine in a wee bar with green and white barrels as tables until the early hours and then off to bed.

Sunday morning off to the Airport for the flight back to Edinburgh, the airport full of fans you had seen or met over the last few days all with a smile on their face.

Although this was a special trip for a special reason I would recommend Lisboa to anyone. We were treated like Kings and for so many to make the trip when It was supporter led and not an official Celtic backed trip was incredible.

Obrigdo to Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan and others who played their part in making this happen and Obrigado to Lisbon.

BigTam’s shot hitting the net on Saturday is up there for me as amongst the most exhilarating moments following Celtic. However, because I always expected it to come others beat it because I was even more anxious at the time.

Number 1 for me is Brattbakk’s sealer against St J. Very closely followed by Henrik’s against Boavista. Then it’s his two goals in the final against Porto. Honourable mention for JVH in injury time against the original Huns, which allowed us to beat them again the next week and go on to clinch the league.

In the ECL it’s Kris right on half time against Karagandy, Naka against Man U and of course Tony Watt v Barca. John Collins vs Cologne in UEFA Cup also special as well as BBJ’s vs Liverpool.

And all those last minute goals in the centenary season, especially Macca’s in the final and after Henry ‘Drop the ball’ in th semis… could go on…

  22. Ryan Christie is 22 years old and still has 2 years left on his contract. It would make sense for him to go back out on loan for the whole of next season then a decision can be made on his Celtic career prospects. Likewise Liam Henderson, although he only has one year left on contract.

Hayes is a different decision altogether.

With Paddy going back to City it leave us with Forrest, injury prone, and Sinclair, who we rinsed out with 45 games on the back of no pre season. We need two attacking players capable of playing wide. You would hope that one would be a high profile, CL quality signing (or Paddy) that would be first pick on the right, the other is either a youngster who can develop or an experienced player at his peak. Hayes fits the latter bill, a good squad player who could do a job for a year or two whilst younger players get more experience elsewhere, a bit like Barry Robson and Paul Hartley did at a similar age to Hayes.

Recognise every one of them m8.

Few could be added but my best ones are still around Love St in 1986……

    1) 3rd goal. At the time in the ground we thought Dundee were already 1 up v. Jambos (incorrectly). We needed to win by 3. The goal scorer can be airbrushed, but the ecstasy of that moment is still my number 1. It was utter magic bedlam!!!

The goal itself featured a few Celtic greats in one move…..Aitken, McGrain, Mcstay….! Shivers thinking about it.

    2) the celebrations when Dundee did score.

    Jeez I’m getting old :-/

After Rogic’s winner in Cup Final…and the lightning crack, maybe you should change your Moniker to ” THUNDER and LIGHTNING TOM ROAD” mate ?

I think you can take it as red that the hacks view is that anything other than a snarling growling face and a coiled up elbow is unintentional…..

    Funny that eh?

  26. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

I would like us to sign a real gruntcrusher of a centre half.

I don’t think wee Jayden would have been so free with his ole elbow if he’d been up against hoopslegend Dianbobo Balde.

  27. ERSKINETIM

How do they know it was unintentional? – why are they so sure? – how can they tell?

and how do they instantly decide?

I think we know the answer.

I just had a look at his wiki profile and he’s had more clubs than Jack Nicholas © Tommy Docherty

and he’s been sent off in more leagues than Scott Brown has played in.

Are Celtic installing one of those “new” pitches that’s half grass…half whatever ?

If so, and it was up to me…I would only be putting in my slide tackles on the grassy half…feck that !
