  1. I expected a bit more from the champions but a Good result yesterday Early doors our football was very good thought we slipped down a gear midway through the first half but overall a fair enough performance but we really do need to take our chances that game could and should have been five nil , Aberdeen are a poor outfit who never really troubled our defence .

Great story of your day in Paradise. Sitting 7-1/2 thousand miles away I’m sure I could smell the hamburgers. Look forward to your report on the game.

Greg Taylor may not be our most gifted player but by god he gives you a shift. Round about 80th minute he pops up the right side of mid field breaking up Aberdeen attacks.

Do we benefit from having Big Ange at the helm? Look no further than Welshy, Tony & Greg for your answer. 3 local bhoys done good!

  3. My friends in Celtic,

Unfortunately I didn’t attend the game due to pesky work. I did see bits on the TV. ( My seat was occupied though by a very enthusiastic Celt. )

It looked a Brilliant occasion , capped off by a fine three points.

We can only concentrate on our game and our occasion.

We did make the most of the timing regardless of what when on the day before or what was happening simultaneously.

    Well done to all.

    HH, the journey continues.

  4. Song debate – scroll by if you’re sick of it

1 ‘F*&^ the IRA’ – I’ve no problem with the dons singing that- If they want to make a political point, go for it

2 ‘Where’s your famous atmosphere’ yup, things did get a bit quiet

3 ‘wrong fu^&in country, you’re in the wrong fuggin country’ – what?

4 ‘Jimmy saville is one of your own’ & ‘glasgow celtic paedophiles ‘ – what the sweet holy hell is that about- singing about child abuse with kids nearby!

and a mini bottle of buckie just missed me; absolute neds

  5. On hols in the Borders, caught the game in a busy pub in Melrose. The pre-match spectacle looked fantastic on wall-to-wall TVs and was remarked on by loads of people who were obviously not Celtic fans.

Great start to the season. Now off for walkies along the St Cuthberts Way, over the Eildons to start with on a glorious Monday.

We had loads of sheep fans in the bar who were pleasant enough but as my daughter said, save judgement until they enter the ground!!

Thank you, it was a wonderful occasion, and finished off by a good result.

Regarding the game, I was hoping to see the full experience of Angeball football, high pressing, quick paced attacks and lots of goals.

But alas reality is somewhat different and I think we have to be realistic. We are one year into to Ange’s tenure and I think the team is still a work in progress to reach the high goals that Ange strives for. And it may take a year or two yet to see the full Angeball way of playing.

Compare to this time last year and the mess Ange inherited, he has transformed the quality of playing staff, not just on the pitch, but vitality on the subs bench. To win the league last year during such a transitional period was exceptional.

We have the makings of a very good team, still a few players needed to go up a level to compete in Europe with confidence I think, and probably still a few transfer windows away, (some of the players not required to be moved on and release funds perhaps) however, if we get a favourable draw in the Champions League, with the fire power in midfield and attack, we are certainly capable of surprising a few teams and maybe a 3rd or 2nd place finish in the group stages is possible. However I think most people accept that at the moment we are susceptible to the counter attack when playing quality opposition.

Regarding yesterdays game, I thought we started off very well, good pace and pressing. Early goal was a huge bonus and settled the team and fans down. Some of the early passing and link up play was very good and with more clinical finishing could have been two or three up by half time. As the half progressed, we got a bit sloppy, and there was a wee bit of showboating at times, rather see this when the game has been won and at 3 or 4 up. Aberdeen came into the game in the last 15 minutes of the first half and Johnny Hayes should have scored. But other than that, I can’t really remember when they seriously threatened us.

Second half started good, but pace dropped again until the subs came on. I thought Turnbull was impressive when he came on. There was a better balance in the team at that point and thought Jota was better on the left.

Taylor, Welsh, Jota my three best players during the match, but certainly a mention for the classy Turnbull due. I don’t want to be over critical, this was a very good result, we are still a bit rusty regarding match fitness, quality from crosses could be better at times, finishing more clinical. On the plus side we are a very fit side, have potential for goals from all areas of the team, and some day when we click, we are going to give someone one hell of a hammering in Scotland.

We have a bright future, the team will improve, might take a wee bit longer, but we are definitely or the way up.

    HH Dan

  8. Hadn’t realised Jim Goodwin had once played for Celtic, before Sky mentioned it yesterday. Once being the operative word. Anyways, thought I’d check back on the actual game he played. Was Kenny Dalglish’s last game as Celtic manager back in May 21 2000, against Dundee United at Celtic Park. Alongside Goodwin, were other young hopefuls, Kennedy, McCorrigan, Fotheringham, McCann, Lynch and Burchill, though the latter had played in the Demolition Derby a couple of years earlier. On the bench, Shields, Convery and one Liam Miller who came on as a late substitute, sadly no longer with us. Also notable was the return of the King, one Henrik Larsson, in the second half. For all of us there that day; Hope had delivered. And Martin wasn’t too far away….

  9. Songs debate — if the Sheep and their singing caused issues then if we are going to complain then better that we do it from a position of reasoned reflection / self awareness.

First half we just about held it together.

Second half it collapsed into a symphony about non democratic revolutionary violence / commando comic republicanism as the Burtons Commandos / Tea boys / plooky youth / rampant militarists / uniform fetishists found their voice.

To think that those too young to remember the violence and the wholesale slaughter of the 70’s and 80’s with its sectarian bloodletting and local feuds would want to celebrate that dark time is a shame we do not need to carry.

And if the 70’s and 80’s was not their bag then what version of the “RA” are they wanting to emulate?

    1914 / 1916 / 1918 / 1920 / 1922 / 1944 / 1958 / 1968?

A certain level of understanding might be possible if our plooky youth was just following in the footsteps of 26 county / 6 county sporting crowds in singing about their recent violent past and celebrating some form of popular mobilisation / struggle but they are silent while we revel in it — not good.

There is a reason why it took SF nearly one hundred years to regain credibility in the 26 counties — and that was only possible by a lack of class based politics and a joint appetite by the two main historical parties for tax gymnastics / neo Con economics / local big man pork barrel horse trading.

If real politics existed in the 26 counties then SF would be history.

WCS / Glesga is better than that even if the Nats / Not Jacinda have lowered our standards over the years — identity politics has a lot to answer for.

Tea boys — individuals who desperately want to join a militaristic / revolutionary violence organisation with a second string in various socially marginal money making ventures who have a skill set that is so limited that all they would be suitable for would be making the tea.

Burton’s Commandos — wear the uniform straight off the peg / out the shop and shout a lot.

Buckie bottle terminology — Holy City edition …

    Green Trumpet vs Cricket bat.

Mini bottle — would that have been a cricket bat or was it a true 5oml miniature?

Hopefully the culprit was caught on camera and PS are on the case.

Historical note on police engagement — Dutch police angle

Did PS / Netherlands equivalent ever bring the perpetrators of the attack in the Gallowgate pub back in the day? Seemingly there was a targeted attack by Ajax zoomers / casuals on a barman in a pub.

PS washed their hands of the incident as they claimed the perpetrators would be out of the country and passed the file onto the Dutch police to review.

    Did anything ever happen?

    Any arrests / convictions?

That is the Sheep for you — cocktail measures.

They won’t even spend enough to buy a real bottle.

Not Jacinda must have been getting it in the neck with her minimum pricing corporate welfare.

I will need to follow up with my Holy City contacts to find out if they are engaging with these new fangled / petty bourgeoise concepts — I think that progress is being made slowly with gas central heating now being embraced after a prolonged struggle.

  13. Hi leftie. Was thinking last night, yer wee grandson’ll no be so wee now. Used to love meeting you on the Celtic Way for a blether on the way up to the game. I’ll put money on he’s taller than me now. ( not that, that would be difficult). Lol. Hope you’re well buddy. HH

  14. A cracking report by

Followed by Crackpot reporting 3 times within 23 minutes.

Must have been up all night typinh waiting on someone mentioning Aberdeen fans singsong

    Best ignored as usual

  15. I think the reason the advertising boards round the top of the stands were to blend in with the rest of the Tifo ,could I be right

  16. My thanks to whoever put up the tifo for me yesterday evening. I had thought I had taped the game but it turns out I hadn’t. I was able to see it on SKY sports this morning. Utterly amazing. Those who organised that display deserve the thanks of every Celtic supporter. That must have been quite a labour of love.

  17. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

JackieMac – good post on (IMHO) a perfectly appropriate topic.

I’m actually going to defend the Dons fans a just a tiny wee bit here.

Only one chant of theirs yesterday I found truly sickening – about the Lisbon Lions and 10IAR … which they sang late in the game in response to 67th minute tribute.

    But, from what I heard?

They were giving Aberdeen songs plenty of decibels until midway through the first half ….

Some of our supporters then started singing Sheep sh…. b… (you know the one)

At that point … out came the Saville songbook

  18. Has the long-running, annual Celtic Quick News Gowf Day happened?

    Asking for a friend.

  19. From the archives…

Taggsybhoy and BlantyreKev are again organising the CQN Golf Day, as they have every year bar the last two, since 2005. Details are:

‘This year’s golf day will fall a little later than past years on Friday September 2nd. For the seventeenth time it will again be at our perennial golfing home, Aberdour Golf Club.

As ever demand for places is likely to be greater than supply so if you would like to express your interest please email John and Kevin at cqngolf@gmail.com The cost for the whole day is £85 and includes breakfast roll, your round of golf and meal afterwards.

This year the CQN golf day will be taking part in the inaugural worldwide Kano Golf Event which is on that very day, 2nd September, and the Kano Foundation will be the recipients of our charitable efforts. More details will follow on how we plan to shake the day up a little while keeping that long established Celtic spirit in play.

    All the best,

    Kevin and John’

Don’t know if into is still correct

  20. Better start to League than last year,

Think most here got it right, we were good but not brilliant.

Delighted for Walsh & Taylor , love to see lads like that defying the critics,

Welsh did slow it down a bit when he was on the ball but that’s understandable, he was being ultra cautious to ensure none of his passes went astray, the more he plays the more confident he will get.

Jota, O’Riley , Hatate Juranovic & CCV all played well.

Thought Kyogo. Mareda & CalMac were not at their best but CalMac redeemed himself in last 20 minutes.

As someone said earlier a bit of unnecessary showboating and a reluctance to take a shot at goal, overplaying the passes in the box didn’t help the cause but we were clearly the better team and well deserved the win,

  21. ParkheadcumSalford,

It was “The Burtons Commandos” that organized the Tifo.
