  1. I fear that, events will proceed to scunner the Celtic fans in the build-up to the LCSF and, this will lead to the Celtic support ‘wrongly’….imho….bhoycotting that game and, leaving RD and the players vulnerable to, mibberry and the uppitty-Tim-Genius that is Jim McIntyre.

I say it would be wrong to bhoycott the LCSF coz….naebudy listens but, I’ll say it again….the immediate and, most dangerous opponent that the Celtic supporters have to face….is, the enemy within.

    Sad but true.

You couldn’t make a Celtic man out of the ‘entire’ Celtic hierarchy….imho.

And that…..is the reason why Celtic FC and, supporters are Establishment punchbags.

Only the fans who put money into the hierarchies pockets…..can change all of this.

    Don`t think so,my friend.

This is abject from Ronny: “Two points from five games is not good enough but you have to see through the results.”

An insult to the intelligence of those seeing the same thing he is and drawing very different conclusions. Reminds me of Craig Broon’s pitiful manipulation of statistics… “I know we got humped, but we had more throw ins than them….”.

Big Sutton’s analysis us spot on. This is what you get when you downsize in every aspect of your club, from calibre of manager to players on the park. You might win the odd game with less quality (although we haven’t even managed that), but ultimately you get what you deserve. And we are gash. Thanks Pedro.

  5. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Never mind guys, somebody will throw a stick later on and we’ll all scamper. after it distracted.

  6. I wasn’t for the Ronny appointment right from the start.

This isn’t I told you so post, however.

In order to be able to fully judge on wether we stick with the manager, we have to know how the recruitment works.

Is Paul67 able to tell us?

What I would like to see now happening is a statement from Lawell, or do they only release statements to cover they’re backsides.

If they are backing Ronny, let us know.

An acceptance that mistakes have been made, then assurances that our manager wIll be fully backed in pursuit of CL qualification.

Another 2 signings of the stature of Jozo, players able to be 1st choice stalwarts, not mibees.

Then and only then can Ronny be fully judged.

I see some really good signs and some equally worrying signs.

  7. I see Police Scotland didn’t cover themselves in glory again last night. A group of 30-40 Ajax thugs attacked the Hoops Bar before the game (and Bar67 as well, I think). The owner of the Hoops was taken to hospital. It happened after the main Ajax contingent was being escorted to the ground – the attackers might have been the scum who were drinking in Bridgeton with Huns all afternoon. No doubt our valiant polis were busy arresting people for singing songs or drinking in the street when that was going on.

  8. Fwiw I think the team were great last night, Im proud of them all. But individual mistakes cost us, it happens all the time, but its not the managers fault. We have to win as a team and lose as a team. Roll on sunday I cant wait. Mon the hoops.

  9. 5 weeks until the transfer window opens, 5 weeks to decide if RD represents our best chance to qualify for CL group stages. The first qualifier begins in less than 8 months.

The evidence for RD is domestic dominance, the evidence against is a 1980s record of ineptitude in Europe and the team is worse now than last season. We haven’t improved, we’ve gone backwards.

Whether RD stays, or we get our next untried (at European level) manager, they need to work within a flawed player recruitment and development strategy. Those who have taken the club from CL last 16 team to EL nonentities within a few seasons will continue with this strategy (they said last week that it was a success).

Even if we were to change manager, I don’t think we will nor should, would you trust those who call the shots to get the right man in next time?

    Question to our CEO

On what level does the hit n hope recruitment strategy work?

For every Wanyama there are 4 duds so in actual fact even when we hit the jackpot it is offset by wasted buys.

Consequently we have a poor team. Poor results and ever dwindling attendance resulting in lower income and squandered opportunities to make money in Europe.

    I can’t work it out.

So Mr Lawwell and co – honestly – the fans don’t understand the strategy. Please explain. Since we are neither defined or dependant on any other club – please exam without reference to Sevco/ RIFC.

If anyone on the blog already knows the answer as to why we are doing what we are doing please be kind enough to share.

Nat Henrik who played international football at the highest level and played in world cup finals. Henrik who has played for Barca and won a CL medal. Henrik who has played under Alex Feguson. Henrik who was our greatest ever player. What does he know about football ?

    ——————————————

Of course Henrik was a great player – I didn’t suggest otherwise – or that he knows nothing about football! You’re talking about replacing the Celtic manager – not one of the players. Henrik’s managerial career to date suggests he has a lot to learn before he could take on a job like Celtic. If you’re gonna give up on the Ronny experiment, then it surely has to be someone with a proven track record?

  12. What proven track record did Neil have…..?

What proven track record did BTM have….apart from finishing 20th out of 20 managers in the EPL and, playing ‘passy’ with McLeish’s ebt-huns on Black Sunday….?

  14. Positives- I thought the defence looked more solid last night. Jozo and Boyata. if given a few years together, could be a decent europa league standard partnership.

    Re your question to CEO.

Could have been asked a week ago. Could have grilled the board on the rotten European record.

Could have asked about the silence re the decade or so of cheating.

Could have asked more about what the club are doing about Res 12.

Focus was elsewhere. November we get embarrassed by booing minutes silence – a handful boo and we’re all blamed, humiliated by racist slurs after a completely unnecessary spat, and then on the park end up rock bottom in a poor Europa Group.

The Trust/ Board annual spat over living wage has a solution. The latter shuts up the remembrance boos and the latter used its compensation donation to poppy appeal to fund the diffence in the living wage and at least next November we’ll just have on field embarrassment to worry about, probably in the Europa.

  18. Would I be right in thinking that the Celtic Board must have some sort of rolling, medium term, strategic plan for the Club?

I just wonder if things are going according to plan.

I rather fear they might be.

It would be nice to know for sure.

  19. My two pence worth.

I see a lot of young guys playing for a manager.

i also see disrespect walking off the park? really ? injured or not can yo imagine someone doing that with WGS or Martin? Injured or not you wait till given permission to leave.

I thought last year we were getting better in europe unfortunatly we lost both centre halfs. our replacements have been injured for long periods or not up to task. This is my main excuse for being ripped apart in europe this year.

We are scoring goals but giving away silly silly gaols . Sort the defence and we will do just fine.

I like Ronnie l think his style is really good to watch but exposes our defence terribly , add that to the afore mentioned centre half issues and we are where we are now.

I am well aware that a change of manager works wonders at times but l would still stick with Ronnie , and bolster the defence

    ——————————————————————–

A reasonable question mate. I don’t know the answer. Communication of the vision (if there is one) from Celtic to the stakeholders (the fans/customers) is extremely poor. This is a real problem because if you want to take a risk then you need to take those people with you.

If the idea is just to to buy cheap and sell on we will forever be selling the players who are worth keeping. It can be argued that power is with the players and they decide when they want to go. If that truly is the case, then the strategy is broken and another one is needed.

But another point. To sell good players on for top dollar you need the shop window to do it. That shop window is European competition. If you’re not performing well at that level then you have no shop window. We appear to want to sell diamonds out the back of a Transit Van at the moment.

I’m actually happy to go along with any experiment that can help us overcome the broken business model of Scottish football. I get it. However, Celtic need to articulate it and sell it to fans. Currently, the expectation is that we should be reaching and performing well in the Champs League every year. IF that ambition needs to be placed on hold while we completely change what we do, then someone needs to let the fans know in a very unambiguous way and make sure they’re bought-in.

    Question to our CEO

    ===========================================================

In every other club ,it`s the coach.

    How can we be different?

    It`s the COACH.

    Our players are internationals.

    Sweden,Norway,Nigeria,Honduras,Scotland.

    It`s the coach.

  22. After having slept on last night I am coming to the view that it is our signing policy more than the manager that is at fault. This corporate moneyball theory is just a collection ofspreadsheet figures and data. It makes no allowance for the many other factors that make up a successful team.

Celtic are run as a corporate plc and not a passionate football club.

As for Ronny, whilst I don’t think he has the tactical sophistication for this level his lot is hampered by being given mediocre (at best) players to turn into Champions League players.

it is clear most of them will never be at this level and those that do will be lower strata of CL standard.

Last night his team were down to the bare bones. Yet he was able to switch tactics and trouble Ajax. Our centre forward was dreadfully wasteful all night. Despite Griffiths being woeful , it is a measure of Ronny’s lack of faith in Ciftci that he kept Lee on!!

On Moyes . Have mixed feelings about him. But he is a big name and a man who would not work under the restrictions Ronny does. Football folk and not corporate policy should be identifying talent.

Yet why was he there last night? Is he a regular at such games ?

Could not even bevvy last night, I was so despondent. However, I will take Mrs Cliftoncelt out for a few unwinding sups this afternoon.

    ===================================================================

    Spot on.

Our friends in the Celtic Trust focus on THEIR political interests rather than Celtic`s footballing interests.

    That`s their priority.

    Bloody obvious for years.

    Are they happy?

Football is a results based business.

    YES.

    BUSINESS.

  26. Well no Europe after Christmas and what a damp squib it was.

Not blaming the players last night, I think we all know it has been a way below par Euro Campaign this Season, woefull Infact.

Last Season’s Europe wasn’t great but there was some good performances and it seemed some progress on the learning curve.

Though this Season we have had a very mediocre UCL qualifying Campaign eclipsed by a very poor Euro performance. In other words, we are getting worse not better.

After the Molde away & home fixtures I said Ronny’s time was up, you can’t continually watch your team make the same mistake game after game and keep watching it without fixing it. You can’t keep watching a 50% performance game after game, without improving it. Well actually you can if you haven’t a clue what to do.

That I’m afraid is where we are, the Coaches do not have a clue how to improve our overall performances and results.

The other thing is squad management, we suffered greatly from suspensions and injuries last night and it’s because we don’t give squad players a chance. We do most of our business in the SPFL, we are expected and do get results against EVERY team, we can afford some chopping and changing. Johansen hasn’t been performing, yet instead of advancing the half dozen other players that can play in his position and getting them to fight for a jersey, we’ve for the main part stuck with Johansen.

Scott Allen was a case In point, the lad looked nervous as he waited to come on and yet changed the game, he has things in his locker none of our other players have. Yet he picked up a booking for a tardy late tackle and was badly caught in possession from a corner that led to the Ajax winner.

I believe that had Scott been developed as a Celtic player and been given game time he wouldn’t be making basic errors and by now should be a huge asset to the team.

There’s a few other points I’d like to make Leigh, Mulgrew????? but I’ll end with this, player improvement, it has been said that RD has improved players, that is undoubtedly true, but GMS and Armstrong to name but two have gone backwards, they were a revelation when they arrived 10 months ago and seem a shadow of themselves. I personally believe GMS is overtraining, he looks to have lost weight as well as form. Training and Coaching players is not a one size fits all task, obviously some players are excelling on the RD JC regime but likewise some are going backwards.

But to me the overall result of the failings is far too many substandard performances.

We need to get Chritmas over then a new budget and new Manager for January. I hope we are already talking to people, I’m sure we are.

    BUT

he has had more than enough opportunities to show that we are making progress and I don’t see it especially in Europe – I actually get embarrassed watching us sometimes
