DK – Took me one hour this morning to raise the £5m from major shareholders. Will advise SD we will be repaying that loan.

DK – Last night, board made decision to reverse position on SD loan. We will endeavour to repay loan as long as we can raise money.

DK – No club has been made to suffer as this one has. Rangers will emerge stronger than ever.

DK – It is board’s intention to give manager sufficient resources to secure promotion and then challenge for Europe.

    Macjay 1010-

You won’t be drawn on an opinion of the Celtic board’s performance as you say you haven’t been to any of their meetings.

    Ok.

But you havent been to any meetings of the Celtic Trust yet that doesn’t stop you criticising them, decrying them as socialists with a political agenda etc

Surely you see the inconsistency with that?

By the way its not a dig just an observation.

And, for what it’s worth, I agree with your comments on Ronny. No improvement in Europe since summer 2014 so, with regret, he needs to go.

  3. O.G.Rafferty on 27th November 2015 10:41 am

The 1st 2 statements contradict each other. He’s either raised the money (1st) or he hasn’t (2nd).

Personally I hope NEVER to see Lustig or Mulgrew in a Celtic team again…….and for that matter Izzy. They are all finished.

  5. Last night –

Much better than both games v Malmo ..

The proverbial game of two halves .

Missed chances ( likely to be costly v half decent opposition ) .

Poor at keeping possession ( likely to be costly v half decent opposition ) .

Gifting the ball to half decent opposition ( likely to be costly v half decent opposition ) .

Looked less fit than the opposition ..

Some absurd decision making ( particularly that corner ).

Some of the players are not good enough and never will be good enough . Assume they were purchased for the one horse SPL ..

Italian radio review of last night’s Europa League commented very positively re the attendance and the atmosphere @ Celtic V Ajax but couldn’t resist a negative dig re the standard of both teams..

Cold wind and the occasional downpour –feels like winter -way down south.

  6. Morning all.

    Dismal down here.

Haven’t read back but I imagine dismal is an understatement for the mood on here. Personally, I was heartened by much of what I watched last night, especially the contribution of young Allan and Simunovic. They both looked at home at this level. Tierney, again, was our best player. What a find.

Usually, after any defeat, I can’t sleep. Not so, last night. maybe I am simply getting old(er)/

I’ll be honest, I couldn’t a flying one if we win the treble this season…

    Worst thing that could happen.

    Think harder.

Over the last 18 months we have witnessed the worst run of European results in our history.

A treble would (more than likely) guarantee more of the same.

  8. Ok, a quick summation from me on last night.

Talk about defenders all you want but Baresi and Maldini would struggle to keep a clean sheet with what’s in our midfield and forward areas.

Both goals were as a result of the ball being lost up the field. We cannot hold the ball up the park and it inevitably keeps coming back.

Eventually we leak the goals that ultimately cost us.

Our problem is in our forward area, no the defence. I thought Jozo, Boyata and Tierney were good, Lustig was rubbish.

Pass marks to McGregor and Forrest.

    The others..

Cerny had one chance that was no better than what Griffiths had on a number of occasions. Everyone’s allowed a night off and he had need to apologise, but he was rank.

In fairness to him we don’t get the possession to play the through balls he thrives on. We need therefore to change it for Europe

    Árd Macha

  9. I said before the game it would be almost miraculous if we won with all our midfield players missing. As it was, we could have won if the over-rated LG had taken his chances.

The decine started before Ronny arrived. Look at our European performances in Neil’s last seaon, when we were fortunate enough to drawn against Karagandy in the qualifiers.

The problem is that we play in the SPFL. So we are in a poor football environment and we are a selling club. I can’t fault the board’s football strategy (on other matters they have let us down badly). Buying promising young players with sell-on value may be the way to go but wealso need a coupleof experienced hardened professionals too. Scott Brtown is the only real ader we have.

  10. the glorious balance sheet on

    WeeMinger-

Our current rate for churning out first team quality players is maybe 5 every 10 years. I make that Mcgeady mcmanus forrest tierney that I can think of the last 10 years that have come through to be classed as first team regulars.

But as our model is based on selling players to England, not only do we have to produce more players from within to the first team, we have to do so at an even more advanced rate due to the sell to England strategy causing constant turnover in our squad.

So two issues prevent us from having a team largely made up of our own talent-

    1. Lack of talented enough players coming through Lennoxtown in first instance ;

    2. Club policy of sell to England means any talented players will not be here for long

So no I hold out no hope of our team largely being made up of lads from our youth system. It’s back to John Park’s book of projects and space cadets and Dudu Dahan’s diddies.

Europa League qualification will soon be the holy grail of Celtic’s season

  11. Joe Filippis Haircut – Personally I think Moyes’ ambitions lie elsewhere, after Man U, I think he wants to prove himself in the EPL again. I not necessarily advocating a change of manager at this stage, I think it’s counterproductive step which needs to be considered very carefully.

Weeminger – My concern is Griffiths scores a lot but wastes a lot. Okay in the SPFL not in Europe.

  12. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

    King in June:

I don’t see the Ashley loan being a loan in isolation. In fact, I don’t see it as a loan, quite frankly.

I don’t think the club should be repaying the loan.

I’d much rather see funds going into the club, rather than repaying that loan.

It is free capital for the club and I think it should stay on that basis.

    What happened Dave?

Did Mike start waving a padlock?

    Heh heh heh

    Re: Moyes

Sociedad ended badly because the teams expectations are above their ability.

The damning thing was that Moyes gave up learning the language and never moved out of the hotel he was staying in. Sociedad really had to twist his arm to get him to come and he never fitted in.

It wouldn’t be the same thing in Glasgow. He’s from here.

  14. the glorious balance sheet on 27th November 2015 10:53 am

You’d accept though that if that was identified as the aim from the point RD joined that it wouldn’t be achievable within 2 seasons and have total success on the pitch.

I’ve always maintained that in terms of youth coming through Lennoxtown only those that were around 12 or younger when it opened would really be products of it, and that’s when to start judging it. So that would be players around 19-20 now. If we’d had more youth orientated managers in the past we may have seen more of them in the 1st team by now.

I thought our best players last night were the one’s we’d developed ourselves.

  15. MACJAY1 @ 10:19 AM,

“But,make allowances for circumstances….four first teamers out last night.

Overall picture from August last year.

    Damning.

Europe is the only game in town.”

Well it’s true we were depleted but here’s how I look at it, with our first team out there how many quality performances over 90 minutes have we had? We looked the business in Amsterdam. Yet once again we only played half the match.

I don’t watch all the Celtic games but I watch when I can, see highlights, read match reports and all I can say is when did we put in a quality 90 minute performance against decent opposition? I can’t remember.

Yet we are supposed to fitter, stronger, faster… I don’t see it.

But you ‘re right Europe is the only game in town, the only place where we are matched with our peers and at the moment we are deservedly at the bottom of the League.

    GLASSTWOTHIRDSFULL @ 10:26 AM,

“The job he is trying to do is a long-term one. The young players seem to be buying into it. But we can’t throw a whole lot in at once. That’s why we are having to buy in the likes of SA, GMS, SA and RC.

Simunovic looks like he could be the real deal. We need to decide if Boyata is going to be good enough. If not get someone in in January.

I agree with all of that and that’s why I’ve been willing Ronny on and hoping things come good.

But the first thing in a Football Manager’s locker is the teams performance over the 90 minutes.

    He picks the team

    He chooses the tactics

    He motivates the team

He changes the tactics as the game progresses.

He wisely uses his substitutes to maintain a top level of performance and close out the game.

Now do you believe that those things are Ronny’s strengths because I don’t, in fact sometimes I think he hasn’t got some of those basic skill sets.

Take last night, what formation were we playing? Ajax was 4231, you could see that, is that how we were set out? I saw on one website we were 433, could’ve been but didn’t look like it to me, but couldn’t say for certain.

Look at Leigh, he was getting more and more frustrated the longer the match went on, slapping his hand against Ajax post after a failed effort. The great thing about Leigh is his composure, the way he takes a ball and finishes it in the last third is a joy to behold, not last night, it was one of those games from him, lots of effort mind, but it just wasn’t working, he should have been subbed.

There is just too little of the match day nouse with Ronny, to compete at the required level, very few have it, a lot of great Coaches don’t, yet some folk like Mourinho for all his failings does.

We need that level of performance from the Manager to translate to on the pitch performances IMO.

Pity… He’s doing a lot if good stuff.

    Hail Hail

  16. If it only took an hour’s phone calls then why didn’t they do it sooner?

Alasdair Lamont ‏@BBCAlLamont 4m4 minutes ago

DK – those providing soft loans are not to be repaid, but converted into equity. Once SD loan paid off, Rangers will have no debt.

  17. O.G.Rafferty

If DK says they will have no debt where have the last 3 years losses went to ?

  18. Warchest been dug up?

Alasdair Lamont ‏@BBCAlLamont 5m5 minutes ago

Are there funds available for Jan transfer window? DK – yes.

Alasdair Lamont ‏@BBCAlLamont 7m7 minutes ago

Does giving £5m back still allow you to put in £2.5m to tide us over till end of season? DK – yes it’s in addition.

  19. “Just what evidence do those who say Ronny does not choose transfer targets. If you have evidence to the contrary then let’s have it, if not shut up.”

Believe it or don’t believe it. I’m telling you it’s a fact. He had no say in signing the 3 DUFC players. Neither did he have a say in giving Lisa a Hague a 2 year contract.

  20. Also , if soft loans are converted into equity ( shares ) then surely all other shareholdings are diluted ?

  21. Even if there are some supporters content with domestic dominance, the press and some malcontents in the dressing room, employees, board members won’t be.

If we had Europa League football in the 90s Liam Brady and Tommy Burns would have had a better record.

    Accept Mediocrity and get mediocrity.

A treble isn’t a measure in a league where you have 4 times the resources of any of your challengers.

It’s absolutely sickening that we have let another opportunity to improve slip past due to a delusion that the players we have are good enough to roll out in a 4 3 2 1 attacking formation home and away. Shocking Mis management.

Granted we have no option to sell our best players but the lack of planning and proper management at our club bears no resemblance to what should be required. We do not need to spend more. We do not need more investment.

We need to buy and develop the correct talent and bring in a coach who can win the most games possible in any given time period. I have seen enough of Ronny to know that he I’ll never change. why the hell would you trust this guy to go into next years champions league qualifiers expecting to beat any team? Once you get past the part timers in the first round you are then on to any team capable of beating this Celtic team.

Our average goals conceded at home must now be 2. We need to score 3 to win and we have a striker that can’t beat any opposition player for pace outside of Scotland.

If we change it now you might get a chance of getting someone in to work with the players to have a chance of improving our odds of European league football next season.

Names? Anyone but our current manager would have a chance. Honestly I like the guy but he is not up to it.

I don’t give arse about the clowns on our board or the imposters who have the honour to wear the hoops

    Fuck the police and fuck

  23. Sack the manager who ye gonnay bring in?

    Chairbhoy

I think the disappointments in Europe have been more down to individual errors than poor tactics.

As for Mourinho – if you look at results he should be gone:-)

  25. BT

Hope the young fella is alright mate.

Police Scotland watched them stroll up from Merchant City. I’ve got some info if needed.

  26. If we win 5 out of 6 domestic trophies (good chance IMO) what spoilt brats we will look if we scream for Ronny’s head.

The media now judge Ronny only in Europe because the buns urney in our league, though they were in both cups! Why do we dance to their tune.

  27. GlassTwoThirdsFull – I kind of agree with the exception the Molde games.

Our shape was mainly very good last night. I thought Forest and GMS worked their socks off.

  28. Haven’t we heard this somewhere before?

Grant Russell ‏@STVGrant 26m26 minutes ago

King: Once SD loan paid off, we will be one of strongest clubs in world with regards to financial position.

  29. Your not ever gonna progress in Europe if you pin your hopes on Leigh Griffiths. No harm to the guy but he’s still Leigh Griffiths.

He wouldn’t get a game before Andy Payton. That’s where we are in our PLC boards ambition Im afraid.

  30. I think there were mistakes with yesterdays selection. Ambrose would have been the best option as a defensive mid. Hes atheltic and experienced at a high level. We looked better with Mulgrew playing that role but he obviously wasnt fully fit and should not have been risked. Ronny fielded a young team but I think Ajax were younger. In spite of their youth Ajax were more battle-hardened through playing in a superior league, and they were better passers and much better coached.

Allan looked the part and looked a better option than Armstrong who was just about average.
