I’m no Scott Brown fan but he had a very good game tonight until his lapse.
I’m defending him as he was clearly hyped and caught up in the moment. He will be beating himself up so time for the whole club to support him. He is our captain – and is giving us his all – he should get same in return. So guys if you are without sin start throwing stones..otherwise..support your captain in his hour of need.
As I said yesterday, we played Barca in the CL- whats not to like..enjoy the ride!
He has started to show some maturity in the last year but he was petulant tonight. Yeh Naymar made the most if it but that’s to be expected.
Barca close down so well they really make teams work for possession and we had no composure when needed in the first half.
I thought we had a better 2nd Half despite the sending off. It’s tough to call whether we played very disciplined to Lenny’s instruction in the first half and opened up a bit in the 2 nd or it was just our confidence grew?
We still have 9 points in us so 6 points against Ajax beat AC at home and then I can enjoy my 40th in Barcelona

They may have better players but we dont fear them anymore.
I think that is what is called progress
Totally agree. It’s a measure of how far we’ve come that we’re bitterly disappointed to take nothing from a game against Barcelona, a team who are worth hundreds of millions of pounds. This should be taken into account when assessing our performance also.

I think it was the nature of the sending off that we are all peed off about. If he had got two bookings for the type of foul on Neymar I could have lived with that.

Just in from the game. Our ten man team were outstanding after being badly let down by Scott Brown. Brown was lucky not to see red against Karagandi, and after the AC Milan game I suggested he needed to wise up. Brown will miss one game minimum, but he could well be missing a few more if the red card was for violent conduct.
I thought Sammi, Efe and Virgil were our outstanding players, and of course Forster.
Charlie Mulgrew lacks composure, I lost count of the number of times he gave cheap possession back to Barca. I’m not a big fan of Kayal but he did very well when he came on.
I wasn’t impressed by the referee’s performance, he seemed more at ease giving Celtic players a yellow card while Barca escaped censure – Neymar should have seen an early yellow card for diving to put a stop to his constant cheating.
I still have hope that we can get something out of this group.
Scott Brown will the most disappointed person in the world tonight. He know’s he made a serious error of judgement and gave the referee a decision to make when there was no need too. That being said the antics of Neymar et al were horrible. But that’s football in these times. Broonie will miss 3 games and will ironically enough be back for the Barca game. He will be badly missed in the next 3 games.
I thought the referee was poor all night long, we had a corner and a free kick in the first half and he gave 2 fouls against us even though the usual defensive holding and grappling was taking place. I felt at the time that Fabregas was very luck not to get a straight red for his tackle on Stokesy, I will look at the tackle at some point and may have a different view but my gut reaction was red.
I also thought the free kick that led to their goal was very cheap and could even have been given our way.
We sat of too much and gave Barca too much respect, they are not the team they were 2-3 years ago and rarely threatened despite all that possession. Ironically they scored after our best attacking spell in the match, Valdes made an unbelievable save and Charlie should have scored. Had we scored at that point I think we would have won.
Big Fra made some great saves as the game got stretched.
Proud to be a tim, gutted we have no points from 2 very decent performances so far but heartened with the result in Amsterdam as we are still in with a chance of getting out of this group either in 2nd or 3rd. It’s not a surprise we have no points after 2 games given we were away to Milan and Barca and the Ajax double header was always going to determine the outcome. if we can somehow get 4 points from that and then win at home to Milan we will have an excellent chance of 2/3rd. Anything better than 4th when you are seeded 4th is a bonus!

The system we play will never make for good ball retention or passing stats in Europe.
Our players pass and then stay goal side of opponent and never create an outlet for player with the ball.
We focus on keeping it tight with usually only one outlet which is the high punt to Sammi.
We really are similar in SPL but our superior players create good individual moments to get us victories.
We play this style in preparation for Europe.
Our off the ball movement is generally poor and our forward progress sluggish.
People bemoan our lack of strikers but I think Pele or Henrik would struggle to score in this team.
We are set up to be reactionary which keeps us competitive at this level but until our coaches learn the proactive side of the game we will continue to be plucky losers.
