Very decent performance tonight against £200 m opposition

Neymar diving wee shit – will never be a ” great”player – and not talking about Scott brown incident

    Turkeybhoy – good post

As ever wonderful champions league night at Celtic park – and great pre match meet for food and drink with the Cqn ” silver foxes”

Shit happens and we will rise in he morning as Celtic supporters

Our captain has done more good for us than bad – support him

As for Lenny’s first choice signing targets- just remember some of them just didn’t want to come here

Hh – to infinity and beyond

  2. Thought we were unlucky tonight, after all Barca didn’t have a shot on target until the 70min or so. However all our SPL faults get exposed all the more at this level, passing, movement, ball retention, throw-ins and GK distribution, every kick out aimed for Sammi (who is surrounded by 3/4 players) and always slow in sending the ball forward, no build up from the back. Except Sammi, no speed up front, and if Stokes had been braver and stuck in at a crossball he might have had a goal, instead was quite content to let it run through for a throw in. All in all we can still be proud of our effort.

12 points still to play for. No reason why we can’t get 10 of them. May not happen but it is within our capabilities if we believe.

I agree, silly as I might be but I think 10 points is not beyond the realms of possibility.

we´re quite capable of doing Ajax away & at least a draw in the Nou Camp as by that stage Barca will be well qualified in 1st place.

    Disappointed in Broonie the night.

    thought he´d grown up.

I thought our retention & passing of the ball was poor but for effort 10/10 & God Bless Celtic.

  4. After the quality 75min performance of two weeks ago it was back to the leaderless, immature, half finished stodgy of two years ago.

At least we have learned some hard lessons …

AS phones in his games in the CL.

Good talented player with a lot of growing up to do.

    We have good players.

But we also have no heart no drive and no desire when the going gets tough.

KC managed to get himself up to speed against ACM.

He looked like a rabbit in the headlamps tonight.

    We desperately need a spreader.

A pressing team needs to be stretched and we couldn’t do it.

We have the look of amateurs in a professional league.

Wee boys in a mans world.

NL needs a top quality coach.

If I were to critically analyse tonight’s performance, Brown would be spoken to but forgiven as part of his lapse was a result of giving his all.

Efe would be TELT to wise up. He’s like a 15 year old guy who has been playing with guys 5 years younger taken to his own age group and still trying to run through teams. Something delusional about him imo. He’s no way that good – his first touch also needs improving. He can become a great player for Celtic if he is disciplined to do well the things that are within his capabilities.

Stokes was 2 yards too slow for tonight’s level.

Otherwise I felt the team were amazing.

  7. johann murdoch on

    Deniabhoy- efe dribbled because

    1- he can

2- he looked up and there was no outball – wee jamsie wasn’t there first half for that

Hh – good earlier post btw

  8. I agree we are struggling to score at this level, tis a factor cos where we are, we are playing in a pub league, a league where we are big fish in a minute pond.

The goals will come, of that I’m sure.

What I did notice tonight was Barca’s determination to get the ball back, they are masters at it, and it work’s, seems to me that, that is the way forward, lose the ball, get it back, I noticed Inesta harrying us in our box to get the ball back.

Hopefully we have learned from tat tonight.

I agree with this as its what I have been saying. The one exception is,striker.Hooper scored 31 goals in this team playing the same way.We will be lucky if all of our strikers reach that total.People can say what they want, some ridiculous comments like ,Stton Henrik, would struggle to score in this team.Nonsense.Strikers are a breed apart. We bought a guy,and are trying to turn him into a striker. We can cut costs and seek out bargains elsewhere, but in this day and age,£5 million for a proven striker is not a lot of money.

    =====================================

While your dedication to the Finbogasson casue may be admirable, I’d point out that no-one – NO-ONE – bought him at their value for CL competition, and Hooper was awful against Barca in the Camp Nou last season when we needed him most – 20-yard first touch bounced the ball back to Barca every time.

Neymar cost £49 million. And he’s a wee dick.

Our front men gave Barca a tough time when we had the ball up against them – 3 really good chances carved out against that mob is decent.

Splashing out on an unproven – and ultimately unwanted – striker meansd notihng to our curreent cause.

We’ll get through this group by team effort and efficient use of our striking pool. Stokes, Sammi, a fit Puuki – 3 men mor ethan capable of hustling CL defences.

Perhaps, if we get 2nd or 3rd, we mayt be in for Finabogasson in jan,. Until then, spilt milk and all that….

  11. As for young Teemu Pukki.

I was off my seat in the pub within seconds of his arrival the wee guy ran at Barcelona like a demon. Pressurised them into making a mistake and we almost capitalised on it.

Scott Brown will be aware of how daft he was, no Celtic man or woman could have asked for more from our team tonight. We do not have the resources at our fingertips that Barca have, €400million in debt and still able to buy a diving, gurning, wee gonk for€50+ million, we are not a Champions League team in UEFA’s eyes. we are an irrelevance who happen to have a good stadium, passionate fans and a team that have been coached to perform at 110% sometimes. Happy and proud to be a Tim as always.

    TET,

One of the most impressive aspects of their play.

So many people on here writing off Neymar as a footballer. The boy is 21. At 19 he was named South American player of the year and won it again aged 20. I would guess much of his cheating is a self-protection mechanism, the price of being a class above all of your opponents and being kicked up and down the country as a penance.

He has just arrived at Barca and the coach is sensibly easing him into the team, allowing him time to find his feet. He would have been a sub tonight if Messi had been fit. He might not have been brilliant tonight but he is one hell of a player when on form and he has plenty of years to improve. One day Broon will be watching Neymar lifting the World Cup and will remember tonight with a sense of regret.

  15. Just got in from the game, read a few comments, usual mixed bag.

For me that was another great night at CP in the CL.

    We lost to Barca,

The noise got louder the more we were up against it.

Just watched the sending off, theatrical from Neymar, but Skoosh did have the slightest kick, slightest, daft.

  16. johann murdoch on

Took a very good friend of mind tonight to the game – ” big hibee” in thanks for all the years of taking me to Easter road when the celts roll up – summed it up nicely ” every Scottish football fan should experience that atmosphere at Celtic park – wonderful ”

Loved the game the spectacle the fans – then said ” now you know how we feel when we play you guys !!”

  17. Brown incident happened right in front of me tonight, I didn’t see a sending off, and have not yet seen it on highlights (about to come on ITV),

I did see a bar a player kick out at brown though in the wee mellee

Thought Celtic looked comfortable throughout full game

And would disagree with a lot of comments on some of the players performance

One comment earlier about a player constantly running into a brick wall, was also how I seen it

  19. Sydney Tim, are you still on about Peter Lawell? Really?

You didn’t see Herenveen’s chairman say the price was 10 million euros for Finboggasson?

But PL still didn’t ‘support’ Neil?

    Really…..

    You´re right TET,they´re like a pack of wolves .

Their plan wi Sammi was as soon as he got the ball there was 3 or 4 round him & if he didn´t get rid of it he was always gonna lose it.

Their fitness levels are way way superior to ours.

    Still enjoying life here ?

Ah´m never goin back.(Oh Mother dear)

We could well learn from them.

Their determination to get the ball back is a joy to behold.

Bayern won the CL last year,, but the Barca way will out at the end of the day.

Ball retention, it’s what the game is all about.

I’m mad at Brown but he’ll be mad at himself too. He isn’t the first and he won’t be the last footballer to do something stupid. Until his red card I don’t think Barca really troubled us. Our defence were magnificent but the team had the proverbial mountain to climb when it was already an extremely tough challenge we had to face.

What disappointed me was our lack of composure in the first half whenever we got into a half decent position. Adam looked as if he hadn’t fully recovered from his virus. I thought Efe was brilliant, Sammi was excellent as was Virgil and what can you say about Fraser Forster’s double save other than it was out and out world class. James Forrest was also very unlucky with his volley.

Barca are a tremendous football team but they found it very difficult against us yet again. I’m sure they have tremendous respect for us. Let’s hope that we can get something from our remaining games to mount a challenge. We definitely don’t deserve to be the whipping boys in this group. I don’t think AC nor Ajax will cope as well with Barca as our players did tonight before the sending off

showed we can compete and team yet to gel. brown is the captain and has a lot of maturing still to do. he has done the stupid stuff before and gotten away with it; sorry we had to lose because of impetuousness from someone who should know better. his skills will be missed his brain won’t !
