  1. a light insanity on

Never booed a Celtic team or player but my tongue was sore tonight. Ok I might have said a wee boo to Willie Garner and Dom Sullivan under my breath but tonight stretched my forbearance a little

  2. Hamiltontim, I repeat my point. The players. The club. Useless. They need told. Platitudes won’t work.

We need radical surgery. Starting in th board room. Tj y hav b en an umitigated disaster in everything they have done.

    A glorious shambles.

The citizens try should now say under ineptitude “Celtic and Peter Lawwell”…

  3. Macjay

“A C.E.O who foregoes or loses out on reasonable potential earnings of 25 million quid over a period 13..14..months would have his collar felt quick smart. ”

Nonsense. CEOs lose out on potential earnings all the time. No company gets all the contracts. No company gets all the riches. If they did, there would not be rival companies out there as they would all have gone bust.

Most years the car companies have a share of the available market. In 2015 Toyota sold 10.08 million units, Volkswagen got 9.93, GM next, then Renault-Nissan, Hyundai and Ford (with 6.64).

Did Ford sack their CEO because they lost out on the 3.44 million units that Toyota got?

Did any of these companies sack their CEO because they were not number 1.

In the EPL last year, Chelsea won and Man City on downwards lost out. Yet only 9 EPL teams sacked their manager, 4 of them pre-season. The teams that sacked their managers finished 5th, 7th, 10th, 13th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 20th (bottom). It does not look like it is the challenging teams who just missed out that are doing the sacking. It is largely the middle to bottom teams that do it. The teams that finished 10th and 13th sacked two managers between pre-season and Xmas, so their first sacking cannot be justified as a success.

The CL riches that we missed out on are not a given. They are earned by sporting achievement. 48 teams tried to qualify from CL pre-qualifying and 10 make it (5 from our group – The Champions Group) and 5 more slots for non-champions from the bigger rated leagues.

The 5 teams who quualified from Champions Group got 3, 4, 5, 3 and 0 points at group stage. All finished 4th.

The 5 League Group qualifiers got 3, 8, 4, 6 and 6. All finished 3rd in their group (incl Man U, Valencia and Shakter Donetsk), except CSKA who were 4th.

So it is hard to qualify and it is hard to make a mark in CL groups even when you do qualify. But you would have it a sacking offence to fail at he first task. Now, I agree that we should qualify as often as we can and repeated failures cannot be tolerated, BUT…..

We were moaning,a s a support about downsizing and slow lanes from 2005 onwards. It has taken 11 years for that jibe to have some relevance. Many fans have been making the same noises through good times and bad. There were four years of moaning about WGS until he finally lost a league and the moaning was instantly justified.

I remember 1975 to 2000 when, apart from 1980 we lost at the first or second hurdle each year, and it was rarely the EC or CL that we were getting knocked out of. The managers of that period did not face anything like the vitriol and sense of entitlement that we show now. WGS, Tony Mowbray, NFL and now RD have been treated more harshly than all our 80s and 90s managers, with the possible exceptions of John Barnes and Lou Macari.

  4. Neg- Putting my rod away for tonight. Sick of throwing tiddlers back. Sleep the sleep of the righteous my good blogmate.

    Tomorrow is another day!

Please no more arrogant blogs about how no one can compete with us for the title, or if Aberdeen lose their next game the title is over.

Since you slated Dundees defence after the cardinal sin of losing one goal at Pittodrie, they have conceded 4 goals in 8 games, not too shabby.

Have you noticed how Paul Hartley mentions that’s another clean sheet in his post match interviews?

  6. Neganon

Do you honestly believe that PL believed the booing was directed at him?

Do you think he’d give a toss even if they were?

Some battles need to take place on different battlefields mate.

Just now those players in hoops need our support when they’re on the park despite how difficult that may be after performances like tonight.

  7. About to read the wee ones to sleep. Still absorbing what I watched this afternoon.

But also still absorbing what has happened to Scottish football in recent years….

Still absorbing what has happened to CQN.

I posted earlier, towards the end of the game. CATATONIC.

It applies to tonights performance from the players, but also Scottish Fitba, and CQN.

Respect to Tierney and Roberts (who threw his hands up in exasperation in the first half, while chasing the ball between 3 Dundee players, with no support. None. The boy is 19. The youngsters were men..

Respect too to Scott Brown who stayed on park and humbly applauded the fans. He looked hurt and embarrassed.

    As I said… Still absorbing what I watched….

  8. A couple of hours after vacating a chilly Celtic Park and I can still hardly believe the level of utter ineptitude I witnessed tonight.

We were dreadful, hopeless, lifeless, soulless and frightened.

Outplayed by the Dundee reserves, well organised by their manager, playing to a structure and a game plan, on our own patch. Pathetic, a new low.

It is the lack of any sign of a progressive playing style I loathe most.

We literally look like, we don’t know what we’re doing.

We might get lucky on Sunday but I wouldn’t bet on it. It was that poor tonight.

(BTW there was far too much wrong tonight to recount. I’ve got work in the morning, but you could spend all night going over all our faults ).

That is not a Celtic team!

It is collection of guys wearing Celtic jerseys with little clue of what they are doing, or indeed, are suppossed to be doing.

    Not progress but regression.

Sadly cannot see a way back for the coaching staff.

  9. SydneyTim says sack Lawell now on

    A couple of facts

    1. Celtic far outspend any of our European rivals ( molde. Maribor, Malmo etc) or SPFL also rand

    2. We have signed close on 20 strikers in 8 years Only Griffiths and hooper were goal scorers before they came to us

    3. Our scouts are hindered by Peter Lawell in his specs

    4. Millions of Pounds have been spent on looking for golden nuggets to sell to EPL. Direct orders from Peter Lawell ( scout confirmed it last year )

    5. No top class coach wants to work with project Celtic

    6. Since 2012 we are 100% projects before that we looked but it was not main focus of Peter Lawell

Team now is result of above. Accept it knowing that CL is too far away under our project team under Lawell

Or use money we have now to buy quality. Not quantity. If we buy one player a year so what we build

If we continue with projects without finding more golden nuggets then massive debt

Eurochamps67 – It was far from a Dundee Reserve Team, but you are right in one respect – any well organised team, we have problems. Molde taught us that. Left just before the end of injury time tonight, it was getting a bit heated, Fans were chanting for Lawwell/Ronnie out. My son was asking on the way home when were we getting the Morton tickets, could see it far enough to be honest.

BTW What must Scott Allan, Carlton Cole etc be thinking, who I would hardly class as my favourites, when someone, who doesn’t even want to be here, gets to come on, off the bench?

  13. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

HT – agree re: fact that booing during the game harms, rather than helps Celtic, and that is completely counter-productive. You can see players visibly shrinking in the face of this.

However, I was really shocked at the amount of players who actually appeared to be hiding tonight, and I think the crowd reaction reflected that fact in particular, as well as the rank-rotten performance, of course.

Innumerable examples throughout the game, but two in the last 10 minutes stood out starkly:

    1. Harkins was left in complete isolation, unchallenged, at the edge of his box to head clear

    2. Long ball from Gordon in the last couple of minutes was headed clear by a Dundee defender

In both cases, Celtic players in the vacinity made no attempt at all to even challenge for the ball – shocking.

Lost count of the number of tackles that we shirked out of, or came off a poor second best – Broomie was one of the worst offenders, and followed on from a very weak performance at Hamilton.

Never seen as spineless a performance (from the team, not just Broonie) since Marco Viduka’s shamefull surrender against ICT many moons ago.

Result will new the same as it was then – a new manager.

Even Wee BGFC, RD disciple extrordinaire, thinks he is done.

Anyway – off to bed resigned to the fact that we are witnessing the death throes of a failed, and ultimately very expensive, experiment.

At least I was at the game tonight. I’ll be there on Sunday too and next season as well – win, lose or draw. You just continue with your long range sniping. A Celtic supporter who thinks it’s all right to boo the team?? Really? Who are you trying to kid?

As for moneyball? I leave that to others. I tend not to concern myself overmuch about the economics of the game. All I want to see is a winning Celtic team on the field of play. You just keep on with your negativity. It obviously makes you happy.

It’s not just Deila at fault obviously. Several of these characters (also referred to as players) need to be shown the door too.

Their petulance and undermining since the summer of 2014 has cost the club a fortune.

I was actually talking on the train tonight about how poor we were in the air tonight. Dundee won every ball. I’ve noticed this in recent matches too. Another thing about tonight is that we were holding on for grim death in the last 10 minutes. Throughout the club’s history, we have besieged our opponent’s goal in the last 10 minutes when we’ve needed a win.

I will stick with both meanings of Catatonic.

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/catatonic

In August I was fortunate enough to visit Paradise twice. ICT and Malmo. Both performances could be described as Catatonic in the schizophrenic sense, starting off wonderfully, then wilting in confidence as a unit. Tonight was simply lethargic with no movement or will to compete. I believe there is merit in those who say the home support are too negative. Yes. I was embarrassed at the boos at half time tonight. There is a deeper malaise though…. And part of Ronny’s job is to prevent that from happening. Something is rotten… We’ll we know the SFA and the media is… We know the crowd can influence the team negatively… But there is more to it. The dressing room has a problem.

Self evident. Hope it passes quicker than the tax case.

    SFTBs,

The ‘sense of entitlement’ you mention for me, is employing a manager/coach, who can put a first eleven on the field that are motivated, organised and willing to and able to adapt if the coach demands it.

Celtic aren’t entitled to win anything.

I get your point earlier about Liverpool, but for the life of me I don’t see a Shankly at Celtic Park or Lennoxtown.

Whether it’s even possible to develop a boot room type model, I don’t know, given the involvement of agents and money available elsewhere.

Comparisons of Celtic with units of car sales at Nissan or whoever, turns folk cold. It might excite Management Consultants but sadly it doesn’t fill seats at Celtic Park.

If anyone at Celtic is displaying a sense of entitlement I would suggest it might be some of the playing staff? The coaches? And more obviously the board.

Booing of the team is unacceptable but I don’t think that many in the support, are willing to sit at the back of the bus, if they sense that the team, coaching staff or Board are selling them short.

If the players wilt because some clowns boo, I’d doubt they have the mental strength to wear the jersey.

Not read any posts yet so sorry if you’ve heard this before

    https://twitter.com/edwardrice1/status/705139719538135041

I posted that tweet with about 17mins to go.

I was totally disgusted tonight with some of our support. I actually nearly got in a fight at around 85mins when some in the JS upper started “Ronny Deila GTF” chant and some around me in the JS lower joined in. Disgraceful behaviour from Celtic fans who are without doubt idiots who miss the Huns. Does anyone ever remember a Celtic team being booed off at half time when they have not conceded a goal? When the opposition keeper brings off 2 good saves to stop us going ahead pushing the ball round the post with Celtic players ready to pounce, when our top striker fails to convert after rounding the keeper? When Griff had at least 4 long range efforts on target but neither had the power or accuracy to trouble the Dundee keeper.

Is it any wonder nothing went right when the team came back out in the second half? Ronny tried to change things a few times in the second half, he was constantly on the touchline shouting instructions but for whatever reason some of those on the pitch had long ago gave up trying to win the game. Brown was a shadow of the player we have came to adore, Mulgrew was like a rabbit caught in the head lights and several others were way below par, I say way below par but really if I had said they couldn’t have cared less if we got beat who could argue?

Second half we were pathetic, no words can really convey how bad so many so called professional players were. If half those wearing the hoops were shown the door tomorrow would we put up a fight? How many players refused to show for passes or make a run to collect a throw in. How many times did so called professional football players over or under hit short passes to team mates?

A complete disgrace to the shirts they were wearing

I can’t ignore the way whoever wrote the “Mince” article for CQN, disgracefully put the boot into Ronny without accurately reporting on the game, especially the 1st half. –

” Distressingly, tonight’s encounter chalked up an unhappy hat-trick for the Hoops – “it’s the third time they have been held to a goalless draw in Glasgow”- “Dropping six points from a possible nine against these three teams – no disrespect intended – without managing to score a solitary goal in four-and-a-half hours of football at Celtic Park wouldn’t have been predicted or expected at the start of the campaign.” – Indeed it wouldn’t but it has happened before, even in the recent past we have had worst seasons than this but still went on to win the league.

    The first half analysis –

“A minute later, Rogic also had an attempt, but it flew high and wide without troubling Dundee keeper Scott Bain. There was an obvious lack of tempo about the team and precious little for the supporters to get too excited about. Leigh Griffiths tugged a shot wide in the 14th minute before Charlie Mulgrew, making his 200th appearance for the Hoops, at least forced a save from Bain with a free-kick effort just after the half-hour mark. And the Dens keeper was required to be be alert in the 36th minute when he saved from Rogic before Erik Sviatchenko failed to hit the target with a header following a corner-kick.” –

    Honestly? That’s it?

You used to pride yourself on “Not lazy journalism” well all good things must come to end eh? Some people would think you had an agenda like wanting rid of Ronny but you don’t subscribe to agenda driven journalism do you?

I feel privileged to live within an hour’s train ride and walk from Dalmarnock station to Celtic Park.mI’m also fortunate enough to be able to afford a season ticket to watch the team that I love. I know there are a huge number of Celtic supporters at home and abroad who can’t get to games for financial, geographical or other reasons. Fans travel huge distances from all around the UK and Ireland to watch the team, game after game after game. They’re the real fans. I really admire them and the time, effort and money they spend on supporting their beloved Celtic. I can’t for the life of me understand any supporter booing Celtic players on the park. As Hamilton Tim and others rightly say it is destroying the players’ confidence. People who find fault with the club or team or individuals at the club have the right to stop turning up and paying to watch the team but continually sniping about everything at the club and condoning booing just sucks all the joy out life.

Eddie, I always appreciate your faithfulness, and your defence to the hilt of team and incumbent but I learned my lesson with a heart full of hope for Tony Mowbray, a true Celt coming from a background of epic family tragedy.

Sentiment cannot cloud the bare truth.

Accept it – Deila has lost his meme, the dressing room, and any forward momentum he might have hoped to generate.

Blind faith does not a manger make. He’s a busted flush, and the experiment has failed.

The reaction – and inaction/apathy – of a support once promised dynamic, pressing, attacking football has dissipated into a barely risible cacophony of boos and hapless insults.

The team is a collection of misfits without bottle, direction or purpose, and no reliable gameplan despite the title being within grasp – I wonder if any of them realise the possibilities beyond counting their wages and calculating the cut from a transfer fee away from the car crash.

Even Broon, a player I always had faith in to lift and motivate those around him, seems withdrawn into his shell.

Bottom line – nobody gets or invests in the RD ‘philosophy’ any more, because it was all a red herring to begin with. He chanced his arm, talked the talk, and conclusively failed to walk the walk.

  33. Ronny Deila has made a big mistake IMO. He hasn’t moved out the Lenny stalwarts soon enough. Those guys would have ran through a brick wall for Lenny.

Ronny has came in and put their noses out of joint as he is being methodical, rightly as that is his belief, the targets were only ever the Celtic players coming through the Celtic system. Last season Celtic played some fine stuff, even with the odd huffs. The Old players are the influencers of the newer guys to the Club.

If I was Ronny D, I’d be sorting that midfield out pronto. Get a visionary passer like Scott in the deep/or advanced Central position with Ryan in as well.

I know Ronny wants to build a Family unit, ffs I dinnae ken what Stromsgodset had player wise, Players are naturally selfish howevaah.

He needs to factor in the Money earned etc @ Celtic compared to Stromsgodset.

I’d hazard a guess that in Norway, Ronny had a smallish squad and worked wonders with them players.

Celtic land a Victor and a Fraser and that is the strategy now. It is Not on. It is an impossible situation he has been put in.

    Come on Ronny D.

Every week that goes past without action, is a nail in the coffin of those who have failed to act .
