Hope not but can’t see any reason why they wouldn’t post to say they were ok.

  4. On the subject of missing CQN’ers, anyone in touch with CORKCELT?

    Miss his posts.

  5. Packy Bonnar is a true Tim and a true Irishman. He has proved both on the football pitch and reached the heights as a player and, if you know anyone who knows him, also as a man. His conduct during his time at Celtic was beyond reproach.

He is an intelligent man who realises, as we all should, that there are two sides to every story – not necessarily two equal sides, but two nevertheless.

His is not paid to denigrate Celtic, and I’m sure is not asked to by his employers – he could not countenance such. What he does do is give his honest opinion, sometimes it chimes with our own, sometimes it doesn’t – that’s life – GET OVER IT(great song by the Eagles). To call him a “soup taker”…etc, only mimics the “taig’ & “tarrier” names used against us – we are meant to be better than that.

Why get into the gutters with the nutters?

  8. Packie played 650 something games for Celtic,

Why should we lister to Nicholas Murphy ? Who is he and what are his Celtic credentials. ?

However on the flip side, a mega big shout out and thanks to all the regular posters on here. This has not been the easiest season to post on a Celtic site, so a big HH to all who have kept the blog viable and relevant.

‘Apart from the posts of the normally reliable Bada Bing and Lennybhoy, is there any concrete evidence that Eddie Howe is likely to be our next manager?’

    ###

If it wasn’t likely to happen then surely Celtic would have done something to quell the rumours?

    We’ll find out soon enough.

I wonder how the wantaways will view his appointment (if it happens).

    ________________________________________________________________________________

Much more likely that were it not to happen, Celtic would deny all knowledge of Eddie Howe being

    ‘offered’ the job’ .

They never admitted to wanting Owen Coyle, or Roy Keane the first time.

A  potential All-Ireland League is back on the table and will be a joint venture between the Irish Football Association and Football Association of Ireland

“Excuse me, are you the Irish Football Association?”

  19. Rock Tree Bhoy on

Big Packie is I’m afraid radio Shortbreads ‘Token Tim’, he’s a Celtic man who will not rock the boat, he is very easily managed, will not start a fight with anyone who has an opposing view and most importantly of all, won’t go out go out on a limb for Celtic. Perfect for Shortbread who can point to an ex Celtic man on their payroll in case anyone asks any awkward questions.

  20. timmy7_noted on

Tory troll I thought you were of the opinion that Celtic were only for the 17%?

  21. PETERLATCHFORDSBELLY @:5:16 & 5:20

The article is scathing and gives many examples and, but of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

The appointments of Gordon Strachan & Brendan Rodgers were big positives for Celtic & at times so also was Neil Lennon. The trophy haul is impressive, especially 9iar, however it must be tempered by the fact that we had no real challenge for nine years.

We never seemed to be able to build from a position of strength, but unlike the Ibrox club, we always had to live within our means. That means being prudent & keeping enough revenue to see us through bad times. That has been borne out since the Covid plague kicked-in.

Peter Lawwell has not been the complete success, nor has he been the complete failure. In my opinion he always did what was best for Celtic. Yes he was rewarded handsomely – DD must have thought that he was worth the money – why would PL argue to the contrary?

A minority in the Celtic support hate him and all the board members because they are “suits” – they would have the club run by representatives of the people who repeatedly cost us hundreds of thousands of Euros in UEFA fines and threatened our participation in European competition. Seems that if you earn more than £50k per year and don’t have Guevara, or Arafat posters on your wall, you are a “suit” and unwelcome.

The bad news for those of that opinion is that they may be the noisy, but are overwhelmingly outnumbered within the Celtic support.

Finally, I wish we had a keeper even half as good as Packy Bonnar at the moment.

  22. I believe Paul67 is waiting for the announcement(s) tomorrow before a new article is published? The suspense is taking it’s toll.

What would be the bigger announcement a new DOF a la Fergal Harkin or a new manager as in Mr. Howe or a double with these two In the door or will we see another treble announced to the stock market as in McKay, Harkin an Howe.

  23. Rock Tree Bhoy on

When I read ‘social media’ it appears all our good players are either for the off or don’t want to play for us, Eddie Howe/ or any other half decent manager is not coming to us or if he does come he is going to fall flat on his face, any player linked or previously linked to a transfer to us is either definitely not coming or has changed his mind and is going to sign for someone else / anyone else. Its very consistent.

Sevconia on the other hand is all sweetness and light, only good things are happening there or will be happening very soon.

So its CQN for me, it’s streets ahead of anything else on ‘social media’.

  24. PLB

This line from the Nicholas Murphy article is astounding:-

“All things considered, is this worthy of a statue (of PL) to sit alongside Brother Walfrid, Billy McNeill and Jimmy Johnstone? No, not even close in my book.”

Whoever, in their right mind ever considered proposing a statue to Peter Lawwell? It’s such a wierd idea that it could only have been dreamed up by someone so unbalanced that they think that any possible defender of PL’s time and approach would give this house room. We don’t have a statue of Fergus or Bob Kelly or Willie Maley- Peter Lawwell would not get into the top 100 of anybody’s suggestion for next statue.

I’ve told this story many times on here but I don’t think our support gets it.

When I suffered the jibes of my team mates through the Huns 9iar period, they told me around the time of 5, 6 and 7 iar that Celtic were no longer even in their thinking as rivals; they were concentrated only on Europe. They saw AC Milan and Bayern as their competitors and felt they had long outgrown the parochial confines of Scottish football. They were stealing the top players from English clubs and they felt this reflected their financial muscle and historical stature as a club, rather than it being a side effect of EPL clubs being banned from Europe.

I saw the same attitudes come into our support around the midway point of our recent 9iar. We had no Rangers to worry about, indeed Sevco were a lower league team for much of this period. We did not appreciate our successes and instead chose to denigrate the club for its increasing failure to make a significant attempt to break out of its CL cannon fodder level.

Both clubs and both sets of fans ignored the trends and signs that were all around them.

The old Rangers and their followers did not spot the impact that would follow from The Bosman Ruling, the launch of the EPL and the growing level of financial disparity it brought, the replication of this development in Spain and Italy and France and Germany, and the distorted developments in European Competition bought by blackmail and the big League Clubs threatening a breakaway superleague.

We had less excuse, we saw our relevance in the noughties as European 2nd tier team disappear completely in the 2010’s and beyond as this “glass ceiling” process hardened. We tended to look to whichever club was temporarily punching above their weight and say-

“Why can’t we do as well as Apoel Nicosia, Qarabag, Zagreb, Copenhagen and even latterly, Sevco?”. we even ludicrously referenced Ajax as a comparitor club when they had remained relevant at European level in every decade and had not had a 25 year holiday from European relevance as we had endured.

So the Nick Murphy attitude, portrays Celtic fans as akin to yon frog with the Grapes. Once 10iar was dashed from our hands, we declared that “it was all about Europe” all along and we had failed there. But, I am blessed and cursed with a fairly accurate recall of the mood music of our fans. This year, 2020/21, WAS all about the 10 for the vast majority of us. It was a rare person (and I know there were some) on any Celtic site who stated, “forget about the 10- let’s just prioritise having a tilt at Europe!”. There are a lot more , like Nick Murphy, now claiming that this was their view all along.

They might be able to delude themselves but I am not buying this.

  25. JHB,
