  1. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Anyone nit at the game yesterday? This is what I saw, might be wrong and of course is just my opinion.

The support were quiet, low as we watched the same flat performance. Some of the guys Commons, stuck on the right was not involved, at least not as we expect. That slow slow, sideways pattern, allowed Thistle’s game plan to flourish, with their defence always in position.

Two non decisions by the man in black added to the support’s frustration.

Thistle seldom threatened when the did they created chances. A header flashed in when siminovic allowed his charge to get in front of him.

Griffithd introduction added some passion, spirit and will, to that of Tierney and too few others.

Some of our players were hiding, I have no doubt, others frustrated. This is not a happy group. At throw ins, few were showing for the ball. Too many elected to pass, when they had an opporchancity to shoot. Abdication.

The supports’s apathy is rank. Dont know how many I noticed on mobiles, any distraction to what was played out slowly and ponderous in front of us.

At the sending off, the jags erred, they opened up. We’ll they didn’t err, they gambled on taking all the points. They nearly did too. Gordon had a good save from a header, there were a few of those moments that were down to chance in where the ball landed, that decided the result. We had one of those at the winner!

Around about the 80 minute mark the Celtic support sang. It was that Celtic, Celtic, Celtic chant, it came from deep from this Tim, hopeful, imploring and out of some desperation. I’m more than a little apprehensive about this team’s cohesion, not to be concerned about other’s challenges.

The change in stance by thistle, also allowed the tic some room. Griffiths and Forest had some good moments. Luckily Leigh, lived up to his reputation and had stayed alert and sniffed out his chance.

I have no faith in Ronny’s abilities to turn this round. I’m not a booer, but I can see how abysmal we are. This is down in part to the players relationship with Ronny, but that was created by him, and those who railed against him should be long gone, instead they stayed and the animosity continues.

It’s bizarre that we are still top and many realise, he’s not the man and want him to go. We can argue about thus and that but ultimately he cannot fix what he has created. Nevertheless, it’s so apparent he will go, the result just hasn’t happened yet. One strike and one save saved him yesterday.

  2. Grumphy Auld Kilbowie Kelt on

Got a phone call an hour ago from my wee brother, Hughie.

‘ Can you remember where you were 50 years ago today ? ‘

I had to admit that I had no idea.

‘OK’, says he,’ I can remember it very clearly… You took me to see my first ever Glasgow Derby game at Celtic Park. We stood under the pylon at the London Road side of the Celtic end. It was a miserable, dreich & foggy day. Davie Wilson scored for ‘them’ in the first minute & we were still trailing at half time. In the second half we ran all over them. A Stevie Chalmers hat-trick & goals from Charlie Gallagher & Bobby Murdoch made it a day to remember. The new era of Big Jock domination had just become a reality.

Since he was 10 at the time & I was 28, I suppose it is not too surprising that his memory is a bit sharper than mine.

No matter… I am still a bit huffed that he had remembered, while I have lost it in a whole mixture of joys & sorrows in what, all things considered, has been a fantastic half century for Brother Walfrid’s fantastic dream.

    Thanks, Hughie.

Best wishes for another year of success for all the great guys who still make the effort to support our great club.

Time I met you I remember meeting a right handsome young Tim in the BV!!

People like you gave us our Club. Thank you for that my Fhriend.

We need to emulate the Crystal Palace support, which lifts the team….

  6. Kilbowie Kelt, Quonno,

I was at that game too as a 13 year old. Wonderful memory. We stood at the front of the Celtic end, Janefield St side. We knew something exciting was happening at the club but we couldn’t imagine the glory that would unfold thanks to Mr Stein.

  7. BIG CUP WINNERS

The chant started around 80 minutes. As you say, near me in section 123, no doubt it came from the heart and soul of a man…not a callow youth.

Such was the frustration at the apathy around him no doubt, this current team needs our support. Our support want a better team to watch however we have to, it is imperative, support the team.

The suits have probably decided the fate of RD, feck the suits…they are not Celtic.

Celtic are better than this, we have been a lot worse than this but that is not an excuse. This will be a pivotal 6 months for Scottish football, we need to be ready for the fall out.

  8. The Green Man

Sevco is a million miles away from being a threat to Celtic. Most teams who give Celtic a hard time in the SPFL have 11 men behind the ball for 70% of the game. Sevco has 10 men ahead of the game 70% of the time, they could not change the way they play if they met us in one of the cups por cierto

    50 years ago today..

I was there .Wacked on a pound deal bought in Curlers and singing an adapted for the occasion – Len Barry – 1 – 2- 3 ( that’ s how easy it’s going to be ! ) .

A freezing foggy day / a great performance from a team obviously on the up and destined to do great things..Different planet from the dross on display yesterday !

News Now has a photo of a fan sleeping haha.

Oh how some in here will be squealing, news now doing the smsm’s job.

If we played attractive football a lot of the issues would be in the background

I for one don’t want Rd sacked, I would like him to change to a 442 for half a dozen games to see how the players take to it, afterall we’re. going to win the league anyway.

We have showed in the past for all the money we have spent and the players we have amassed, 2 or 3 players out and we struggle yet our opponents play with less talent and less finance and yet we get the excuses we don’t have a full strength 11on the park.

    The blame game is easy

RONNY pick’s the players and the team

Pl picks the players and Rd picks the team

Whoever it is something or someone needs to change

Me I’m not always unhappy when lose, how we lose (it’s the manner how we lose)

The Seville year gave me one of the highlights of all my years supporting Celtic….and we won nothing.

Anyhoo aff oot.. It’s only a game :)

  11. TBJ…

A good summation of the refs performance.

As usual it’s the tight calls that seem to go against us but that can’t be an excuse, as we have always been up against it.

To be honest…we look like a Lou Macari team, some on here might find that good enough, I don’t.

Those of us a bit older than you at the time had seen the wonders Jock had worked a few years earlier with the reserves, knew that the good times were coming like an express train.

For Tims of my age group, hearing of Jock’s appointment was our Celtic JFK moment.

We were lucky to have him.

  13. comparing Sevco to present Celtic team…..some people are feeling down as the team is going through a sticky patch…..some fans are looking for an excuse in not turning up….ok fair enough stay at home buy the rags the next morning…..but to try a do a comparison with that sevco bunch is hilarious… they are so good I bet 90% of the posters on here would struggle to name 3 of their players…..hey wait!!!! theres Kenny misser…..oh and the left back from the Hearts (did they ever get their money for him) ……

  14. Supporting Celtic or fearing sevco ?

Celtic not playing well but still sitting comfortably at the top of our top league.

Sevco playing ,allegedly, great football but somehow not running away with the league below ours . Celtic I believe will finish the league with more points than the team who wins the league below .

I noticed you posted the other day about zombies dressed in shirt and ties operating machines at your place . I don’t remember anyone doing that in my time there

I do remember it when I was serving my time at albion motors in the 70s but wasn’t just huns then as remember my old man dressing for work although he did however remove his tie when carrying out his welding duties

Wonderful memories of 50 years ago. I begged my old man for weeks to take me to my first Celtic v 1872 club game. What an intro. We were in the stand but behind the huns in the enclosure and at 3-1 they were firing coins and screwtaps at us, scary stuff. My abiding memory is the singing coming from the Celtic end and I couldn’t see them for the fog. That was also the first time I felt that stomach churning sensation walking up Kinnear Rd, although only 10, the same feeling I’d experience till 2012 but will never get again. I’ll never take my seat when the tribute act appear at CP.

    3 Jan 66, in my top 5.

  22. Sipsini,

I was none too happy with the team’s behaviour when we got a shy. Nobody seemed to be wanting to make themselves available.

This, however, is not a new problem. We were rubbish at taking shies even when Mr Stein was in charge, quite possibly even in thon famous 5-1 being mentioned regularly on these pages in the last few days. (Can’t really remember if we were that day, as I was just enjoying it so much- at least what I could see.)

  23. TBJ…

The shirt and ties have gone, as you say, the supremecy mentality is still there.

That was their downfall ( plageruised from Phil) guess you know what I meant.

Popped down to the corner yesterday but nobody was there, reckon I was a bit early, I left some programs with a bloke to pass on.

Good to see you had a grand time in Poland, a country on my bucket list. HH

    Anyone remember this game?

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iS-EmtSLCms

Reason I ask,the last time I put money on Celtic. And the last time I ever saw a draw being priced up at 13/8.

Not in the Celtic game,Swindon v Hartlepool later that day.

A draw and both teams were in the play-offs. A fair few of us picked up the winnings and lumped on the draw. 2-2,as I recall.

Reason I mention it is,I was in Hills earlier. Everton v Spurs,13/8 draw and 17/10 either side.

112% overround. Disgraceful, and bang top of my bhoycott list.

  25. TBJ

Just a Tim with a chip on my shoulder.

Have long maintained that a culture where Ludge degrees were as important as the uni kind, played a big part in the downfall of shipbuilding industry.

There are guys of my age who could name the one Tim foreman on the whole of Clydeside.
