  1. John Kennedy wont leave Celtic until the PLC or manager dont want him anymore,

He will walk into a job if he chooses.

ffs, any ex “old-firm” player does.

its the name, not neccesarily the skill set.

    ah mean barry ferguson ffs.

Fair point mate, that OF tag can get you a job irrespective of their own lack of quality. Doesn’t mean we, CFC, maintain their employment😵

  3. Was just browsing Catch Up TV and came across European Cup Winners on ITV. Episode 3 has a piece on Celtic 67 which is quite good. It also mentions the Final in Milan, but says Celtic lost the 1971! Final.

    Excellent article.

Im sure Ange did not fully appreciate the scale of the job he has taken on.

Winning the league this season would be an unbelievable success for him, he needs the time however to make his vision a reality on the pitch.

There is a Lansbury Street in Gibshill as well, I never quiered the name before, that is a great snippet.

*Google George Lansbury, interesting character, its a wonder Angela wisnae black listed by Hollywood.

Well worth a read IMO. I believe the final four sentences are particularly worthy of consideration.

    ——-

A dispassionate, detailed & descriptive analysis and something that I totally agree with.

The Celtic project is not a ‘reboot’ ‘ it is the design of new software, the purchase/development of new hardware, with all of this fitting into a new operating system.

It will take time and of course any kind of ‘timeout’ means Ibrox gets a free(ish) -run….unfortunately in Scotland – ‘that’s how the cookie crumbles’

  9. When I was doon in Portsmouth I couldnae believe there were so many Streets with the same name up in Scotland.

I think Ange is as hard as nails and he needs to be.

I taped all the Essential mixes back in the Davie Hay and this mix by my Favourite DJ culminated with Pedro Tong saying…….1:56 onwards…. It’s a cracking mix too.

  10. Brendan tried to take John with him down to Leicester. I am glad he is still with us. I get that he is part of the failure to get the Crossmaglen.

We are in a mess at the moment but I am excited strangely as Ange has the blank canvas and he is playing the Young Ones – who are no where near ready at the moment despite Big wantaways being there.

My Big Issue is why wasn’t Ange in place so much sooner?

Another small annoyance is why Bet365 has over 1 minute ahead of Celtic Supporters on the game I am watching through my Season Ticket?

  11. I had pretty much given up on this blog, only making pertinent comments when I felt they were warranted, it truly has become hard work, that is until a comment fae PHILBHOY on 18TH JULY 2021 1:17 PM, had me thinking at this could have been penned by me, however it didnae last long before the usual suspects showed up.

Earlier this week MacJay’s age was mentioned, I realised that he wasn’t much older than me and although politically we were polar opposites, me from the Vale of Leven aka Little Moscow and he from the posh side of Partick Ⓒ DD, still trying to come to terms with Partick having a posh side lol.

However as far as the Celtic are concerned we were beating from the same drum and not a lambeg I hasten to add.

We had followed the bhoys through some tough as well as wondrous times and possibly because of this could manage to carry on during the dark years; last season was NOT a dark time, not even close.

There’s a period between October 19, 1957 to April 24 1965 often referred tae as the “years in the wilderness”.

Looking back at that time after the 7-1 game we looked on track for the title, unfortunately we were also an aging squad which is why, similar tae manure and tae a lesser extent Motherwell, we embarked on a youth policy with Jock in charge.

Injuries soon caught up with that blessed side including Charles Patrick, the Wee Barra and the Juggler as well as big Teasy Weasy, the latter causing a loss in form tae his scoring partner Sammy Wilson.

We exited the SC at the quarter final stage at Parkheid tae the eventual winners BullyWee.

Our youth policy was producing the likes of Pat Crerand and Billy McNeil but others like the much vaunted Ian Lochhead who Jock travelled to his home up the Drum tae sign failed to realise his potential and gave up the game after only 4 games with Dumbarton who he signed for after we released him.

The much sought after Jim Conway who we snapped up after he had been down at Old Trafford was another that failed tae live up tae his potential, he eventually signed for Norwich becoming their first ever 100 pound a week player.

Jock tried tae sign when he took over at the Pars remembering his 4 goals in a reserve league cup final against deidco as well as a barrow load with the reserves.

There were others like Bobby Carroll the high scoring junior fae Irvine Meadow who he won a cup medal with as well as the Junior POTY and also scorer of our first European goal.

Johnny Divers the scorer of our first goal in our first and honest NIAR was another as well as club captain Dunky MacKay who Sir Matt publicly salivated over.

They like other well thought of youngsters failed tae realise their potential manly due tae poor management especially after the Big Mhan left and I’m not including oul Jimmy here as he was bullied.

All youse out there that jump up and down at Peter Lawwell, he does have a first name BTW, would have been committing hari kari if they had been around while Sir Bob was ruling our club with an iron fist.

We lost wee ten thirty and Pat Crerand during tae his reign of terror and the wee mhan was on his way tae White Hart Lane before Jock intervened.

His Corinthian approach was genuine and players were often dropped for on-field misdemeanors when the club was not compelled to do so by the disciplinary rules of the day. It seemed as if players who had not made their Easter Duties were frowned on and that includes those not of the one, true, holy and apostolic faith.

That period of 8 years that I mentioned included playing deidco 35 times winning only 6, with only 1 each in the League and SC the other 4 in either the Charity or Glasgow Cups often by corners tae.

Humiliations in semis at hunden against St Mirren and the huns losing 0-4 both times, losing another semi at the bigot dome tae the same buddies who we had taken 5 goals off of at Love Street the previous Monday night where we tried in vain tae get the game abandoned.

If that was not bad enough embarrassed again at the national stadium in a replay tae deidco where the Celtic end emptied early in the 2nd half as their players tormented us and their supporters chanted “easy easy easy” and “Celtic ha ha ha”, this was our 4th SC Final loss in 8 years with Sir Bob remarking he would rather they filled the net than humiliate us on the park.

The support didnae feel that way as our record score in a cup final was at the time and still is so precious tae us, also considering he had once again tinkered with the side.

Nae wonder they labelled us “Bob Kelly and the Easybeats” mimicking the pop groups at the time.

And still the support didnae gie up even though we lost 3 times tae the huns in a month at the start of the following season. In fact a year later we finally beat them in a League game on John Thomson’s 33rd anniversary.

The only time I saw the support wilt was after losing in the LC Final 4 weeks later in another honest mistakes game.

That and Chopper missing a penalty with the wee mhan being sent off at the bigot dome on New Year’s Day seemed tae be the straw that broke the camel’s back until at the end of that month Sir Bob pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the hat and unveiled the Big Mhan.

It still wasn’t plain sailing as we did have some horrendous results as he tinkered with the side meanwhile stopping Sir Bob selling the Bear, the Buzz Bomb and the Wee Mhan.

So after 8 years while we still couldnae beat Casey’s Drum we did get tae the semis of the lavvy cup when the autocrat effed that up stating for all and sundry tae hear that we would be going all out on the attack and NOT defending our 3 goal lead as that was the Celtic way.

Would we have beat Sporting Lisbon in the final at the Heysel, who knows but it would have been interesting with 2 hooped sides competing, may have played in the shamrock strip that night.

We did get off tae a good start the following season as I mentioned beating deidco 3-1 with a Yogi goal chalked of and Charlie Gallagher RIP hitting the post with a penalty.

So after all that we were still the “we don’t care if we win lose or draw” support, not the hun like entitled one that after another honest NIAR including a quadtreble are throwing the proverbial toys out of the pram.

Make no mistake, should we have done the ten the changes that are now happening would have still occurred.

And for all those bitching about signing youngster that don’t make it like Lee O’Conner or Lucas Connell, like some of the much vaunted players I mentioned above poor management, especially when Jock left, got in the way there and let’s be honest we have had too many cheque book managers and supporters in recent years.

  12. If Ange cannot get rid of John Kennedy if he so wishes then he is doomed. Kennedy is now on his third manager. If his coaching prepares the team to play like they did after Lenny left then I believe he influenced the players poor performance in these games and indeed under Lenny.

In this seasons first 2 games the younger players bought into Ange mantra of win back possession quickly, They also moved the ball forward and played one touch and two touch football, By the Bristol city game and even more in the Preston game this didn’t happen. When losing possession we funnelled back behind the ball, We didn’t play one touch/two touch we went back to a slow build up passing the ball across the back and not getting forward. Ajeti was starved of the ball and we resorted to shooting from outside the box, all of which were off talent. The Preston game was not disimilar to the awful performance against Hibs at Easter Road last season.

Critics have concentrated on personnel like Ralston and Taylor and how they were poor. But it was not them to blame but the system. We should have two up front. We should be pressing high and breaking quickly.

Ange was very down in the post match interview as this performance was not what he wanted it had all the hallmarks of last seasons performances.

Jk ticks a lot of the boxes as a Celtic man, he has Jimmy Delaney as an ancestor, he was a young player of great potential who suffered a career injury when playing for Scotland. He was always interested in coaching and took his badges at a young age and is well qualified. He speaks well and is well liked. I have no issue with him personally

However, he has his own ideas and they are apparent when watching his teams play. I can see a link from last season under Lenny then under JK himself to the Preston game. It does not look like the game Ange is looking for. Ange needs to bring in a coach who will apply Anges directions.

I reckon that Celtic Fans watching had hoped to see a dynamic performances from an invigorated Celtic instead we saw a performance much like last season, Ange was crushed by what he saw but kept his own council.

Ange has run out of time

  13. Great comment as always Tontine Tim.

I’m loving the fact that Ange is concentrating on the players that Want to be @ Celtic.

Dominic needs to get the best cashboolah he can for the wantaways.

If Celtic have a 40% sell on clause if they sell Odsonne, IMO its better letting him run down the clock. Sutty says he is messing with his career.

I’m delighted we have Ange in the hotspot – nononsensenono

  14. Tontine Tim,

Many thanks for that. You describe better than I remember the period I grew up watching Celtic. The constant moaning on here after unequalled years of success sickens me. If any of those who come on here day after day bleating the same tripe are Celtic supporters, then they have never experienced what you, I and many many others have lived through.

If Rodgers did ask Kennedy to go to Leicester, which I seriously doubt ,would he be in the dugout with him,? Or be doing an Academy type role?

“The guys who are going to leave will leave, that’s not my department. I’m concentrating on the ones who are involved. I can’t afford to waste time on anyone other than the ones who are here and committed to being here.”

  19. It’s back to Kennedy getting it. The boss will make decisions on his staff when he has assessed who is there, Jk has not been mentioned recently, so is he responsible for the poor performance yesterday? Some so called fan suggested he is picking the team earlier on here. HH

Thank you Patricia. A miaow from the heart which resonated all the way to my soul on the night in question. Unfortunately, the good folk of Scotland remain stubbornly out of step with our way of thinking.

If only we still operated the single, transferable voting system now, like we did before Ernie moved to Surbiton. You know the house, three doors up on the left, just past the Leadbetters and the Goods. We may have enjoyed a hoolie.

Let me tell you, this additional member system with a cross to write inside one of those boxes is no fun at all.

Time for a fish supper if we’re quick off the mark.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Great post TONTINE, having lived through that real dark period

of Celtic history it’s made us all yins more patient and less self entitled.

It’s great to see the likes of PARKHEADCUMSALFORD, TIM HORTON and

others on here support your theory.

As for the self entitled, constant negs on here, same mantra post after

Balshagray is the posh side of Partick.

MacJay’s parents mansion was up there.

I was doon in rat infested Rosevale Street in Partick, in a tenement wi shared lavvy in the close.

John and I were politically polar opposites.

However, we both worshipped at Celtic Park on a Saturday, and at Saint Paul’s Whiteinch on Sunday.

He was almost 20 years older than me, but we both enjoyed each others company.

His funeral was a very sad and sombre affair, but thankfully all his family made it in time from Sydney to Glasgow.

Only found out from his family last week, that he was co founder of Sydney Celtic Supporters Club in 70s.

May John McGowan the good Celtic Man RIP.
