  1. That was coming, given recent form. Not surprised at all.

Center backs glued to the floor at cross balls into the box.

    Getting bullied too.

Needed Taylor to start I think.

Johnston quick, skillful but sadly, too lightweight.

    JF not at the races.

    Poor at corners defensively.

Poor at corners in an attacking sense. No one ever on far stick for the over hit balls.

Same with open play crosses. Who is responsible for the lack of effective training in this regard?

It is not a “new” problem!

Brown and Frimpong the only pluses.

Not sure where we go from here.

Given our superior resources, that is an interesting question.

Overseashun…dunces cap for you. Glad you’re overseas and not at CP…

We already have too many of your kind…

  3. Sid

You are correct – give an honest opinion on here and the ‘mob’ gang up on you. They must contact each other because it is always a concerted attack.

Well here goes, I will be next.

I’ve saying for weeks that we are not a good team, only to be read that Paul thinks we are an “exceptional team’, we are most definitely not.

We were out-thought, out-fought, out-played and worryingly out-coached, at Hampden, and again today. The truth is the Ibrox team is better than ours.

Stronger, more committed and much fitter, it stuck out like a sore-thumb. We got all the breaks today and still came up short. Sometimes it looked like they had two extra men.

Recent wins over Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen & St Mirren have papered over the cracks. We have been overtaken by the cut-price Ibrox team.

They are expertly coached, we are not – they never lose their shape, we play ‘off the cuff’, we have no discernable shape.

Frimpong, Ajer, Boli, Johnston, Forrest & Christie were found out today.

    Now….the ceiling falls in.

  4. DeniaBhoy

According to BBC, that bastion of impartiality.

    Possession 57% in our favour.

    Corners 11-7

    Shots 11-9.

I know it’s only the 2-1 stat that matters.

We took a wee while to get going then we stopped.

  5. Apologises, as this is taken from Tomorrows Daily Ranger…sorry record…….

Alfredo Morelos faces probe after Rangers star appears to make throat-slitting gesture towards Celtic fans

The 23-year-old was shown a second yellow for diving and responded to abuse from the home support as he walked off the field.

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos could find himself in hot water after appearing to make a throat-slitting gesture towards Celtic fans after being red carded.

The Colombian was shown a second yellow in the final minute for a dive inside the Hoops penalty box and chaos ensued with Rangers coach Michael Beale also dismissed as the two dugouts clashed.

He went head-to-head with John Kennedy as he was sent off, with Celtic boss Neil Lennon also got involved.

But as Morelos exited the pitch he appeared to make a gesture towards the Celtic supporters who were behind the dugouts.

It looked like Morelos did a throat-cutting motion and was quickly ushered down the tunnel by Rangers coaching and security staff.

It happened just before the final whistle which led to an explosion of joy from Gers boss Steven Gerrard.

The Englishman roared into the camera before making his way down the touchline to celebrate with the small number of Rangers fans in the away corner.

When we lost to Livingston Paul67 said inconsequential

    It was not inconsequential

    This is definitely not inconsequential

We have a fight on our hands

We are still the strongest team in the league

But we have a fight to win to win 9

Accept they are a force we need to deal with

Never think they are in financial trouble and will just disappear

To win 9 you need to fight harder than we did today.

  8. If it’s any consolation Paddy Powers still have us as favorites to win League. Mind you the Huns are in to 6/5.

Think overall the Odds are about right. They have a hardworking team, physical & well organized, ideally suited to the SPFL.

We also have a very decent team but like a bit of space to play. when we are shut down & game develops into a dog fight we are vulnerable.

We do need to spend in January window, & maybe today’s defeat will be a catalyst in making that happen.

It’s still all to play for.

  9. GG – they looked at it and Commons said these things even themselves out and that Aribo had a penalty claim before ball went out.

    There is the difference.

Boyd makes no attempt to be neutral.

Commons bends over backwards not to be biased.

    Credit where credit is due.

They came, they saw, they snottered.

Infusion required in January. The return of the Elhamed and Elyanoussi will help.

Our team’s core have played 60+ games a year for four years and it shows occasionally.

Plus, our three poorest performances this season have coincided with considerable thought beforehand by the management team about selection and positional deployment.

    Keep it simple !

    On the plus side …

We are top of the league

“Afraido” Morelos has proven on a global stage that he is more ass than asset.

Generating desperately needed cash from his sale will not be easy.

    Hail hail

  13. Why didn’t french eddie take the penalty?

Greenpinata, we need a solid platform, Victor would provide it, scouting someone younger who might understand what he’s up against in Scotland is way too much of a maybe. If VWs knees were deemed too risky we need an experienced and solid sitter, this would also allow Calmac to get forward more and hence be more effective. MON knew, so Lenny should too, got to match up and win the one on ones and earn the right to play, that’s what I think HH

  14. 3 dogs of war in the middle of the park to start with, really surprised NL is prepared to leave the team outfought and outnumbered in there to accomodate wingers who contribute nothing.

  15. People criticising our “front four” but in all honesty, I don’t think we can afford a front four in these games. It’s different when we are on the front foot trying to break teams down but games are won in midfield and right now they have a midfield that is winning all the scraps.

I’d like to have seen Ntcham start and bulk that midfield out…MJ is far too lightweight.

  16. ulysses mcghee - a demographic of one on

Hate to be a bedwetter – but if you’re not worried about this Celtic team then you’re not paying attention. As it stands we look more likely of getting beaten than Sevco. We’ve ignored their improvement – we’re in denial about them – these aren’t blips – they’re better than us on gameday. Even when we subbed – a short improvement was seen – but the Sevco midfield coped. Tippy Tappy players for a scrap won’t work. The title is at risk. Anyone not seeing that is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It costs us nothing to be wary. Once again a January window becomes fraught with danger.

  17. onenightinlisbon on

Social Media has been awash for months with “they are going out of business”, “they are a poor team’, “Gerrard hasn’t a clue”, “they will sell Morelos as soon as they get a bid” and lots of people have bought this.

They are a decent team and Gerrard is a decent coach of that there is not doubts. And as far as them going bust goes, that won’t happen until they have thrown the lot at stopping 9.

Our own board and indeed Mr Desmond himself will be delighted with the reinvention of the “old firm” and a credible title challenge from the south side.

The last thing that our charlatan board wanted was for us to kill them off and how this has come back to bite us.

Today’s “performance” was lacking in passion, fight, tactical nous etc in every department, who do we blame for that?

  18. ulysses mcghee - a demographic of one on

And whilst the throng are bust posting that Morelos is shite and not worth a tanner. We were one Frimpong tackle away from him scoring to make it 1-3.

  19. weebobbycollins on

When I saw N’tcham was on the bench my confidence dipped a little…I thought Johnston should have come on later in the game…Olivier has been playing well…

  20. The scouts from the world’s uber duber top teams once again need to tell their masters that Morelos can’t score and can’t control himself.

As I said earlier – he was the only player who let them down.

I said in November I thought we would be 8-10 points clear after this fixture. I thought they would be out the EL and would drop points on the road as they would be too stretched to cope with competing on three fronts.

I got it completely wrong. Right now they have us on the ropes.

Their defence and midfield are better than ours at the moment. Felt at times like they had two extra men anytime we tried to attack.

I am gutted. Honestly not confident now of 9iar.

A bad team who won their europa league group

    Doesn’t add up

  22. Neil Lennon picked the team today and i didn’t see anyone complain about his selection before a ball was kicked. I was surprised that he dropped Ntcham after having appeared to be prepping him over the past two weeks for today. But i did not complain.

Anyway as the game started they applied pressure on the ball in certain areas and won individual battles all over the pitch. It doesn’t matter who you pick and what tactics you deploy, if you dont win the battles then it will be difficult.

    Some random observations,

Neil took too long to change the team and bring Ntcham on.

Frimpong has the heart of a lion but Elhamed was missed today.

A fully fit Elyonoussi would have helped.

    Forrest was absolutely dreadful.

    Boli was poor.

Christie has yet to learn how to play these games, too quick to move the ball on and poor decision making. His penalty kick was poor too.

Morelos is a complete disgrace, an utter cheat. He either fouls or dives.

Going forward now, the worrying thing is that events are now not in our control. They are our equal at least and this campaign is 50/50 at best.

The good news is that we are only one point behind nett, with 18 games to go. We lost to Livingston and won 11 in a row. We will need to bounce back now in similar fashion.

A final point directed towards our Board of Directors. They voted for and wanted a version of Rangers. Pandoras box was opened and now it has come around. They gambled big time with Gerrard and it has paid off. They are competitive probably in a manner our Board did not anticipate and they have millions of pounds worth of sellable assets. Time has moved on and we have been caught. We need to react to this new reality and quickly. January is now a huge month.

  23. I see the knives are out for James Forrest again after a ‘poor’ game.

Truth is he was no worse than most.

Infact I though the two darlings of our team ‘french eddie’ and ‘ryan christie’ were both very poor.

Still you wont find me calling for them to be axed from the team.

When Forrest gets NO SERVICE he is not going to be very good in a match.

We have no divine right to beat Rangers.

Indeed that is the third time they have beaten us in a calendar year.

Likewise we have beaten them three times.

The stats will tell you it is about 50/50 for the title .

We do have one major advantage available however….

We can go out and spend 15/20 million in january…they can’t.

    Therein lies the solution.

Over to you Mr Lalwell……otherwise it is a flick of a coin.

  24. jinkyredstar ‘Frimpong Merrily on High’ on

    Ok – darkness lifting

Learn the lessons, make the necessary adjustments- onward and upward.

  25. Easy with hindsight

Count to ten, and more on the 18 bus ride to lower than low at the moment, East Kilbride.

Poor game management IMO caused Celtic’s first league defeat at Celtic Park allowing Sevco their one and only win in a decade, if you drop a midfielder playing well to include a winger, and end up with two more midfielders at time up, I’m sorry but you clearly f*cked up.

Most Celtic fans especially ‘the die hards’ that made it to the Hamilton Wednesday night game seen looming large, Neil Lennon chose the cavalry, who in fairness for a spell in the first half, pummelled the visitors scoring once fortuitously and missing a penalty, invisible from my Celtic end.

Cast your mind back to the man of the match at Poundland and he’s been injured virtually ever since, so with a young winger at Right Back and I’m not quite sure what at Left back defensive visitors will prevail on off days, swashbuckling Celtic sides didn’t always do well v Rainjurz and now it seems Sevco can dominate in our stadium against Celtic’s bhoys.

Neil Lennon will know exactly what went wrong might not admit it, but he didn’t learn his lesson from the League Cup final and he threw his flawed attacking or bust policy to the wind v Sevco whom like many of us he vastly it seems underrates.

Hamilton, Aberdeen, Hibs, and even Hearts with a rally by St.Mirren bless them could have told us the Rainjurz were comin. Will warm weather training recharge the batteries, on todays showing this result could easily be reversed with Sevco now in fulll Orange Walk mode, pity we didn’t hold out for the decade, of our favour.

Kevin Clancy the mason with the Timmy name is just an abjectly poor referee, time and time again he calls the obvious decisions wrongly, throw ins, corners, you name it, he even does the wrong way round for good measure, surely the tallest refereeing gnome in Europe.

  27. McNut

I’ve lurked all week watching you get slaughtered by the usual Board clique on here. I thought you defended yourself superbly.

It’s a pity Neil Lennon couldn’t have organized a similar defence.

You have been proven to be 100% current. Don’t expect too much credit though!

Broony was the only player who turned up today. The rest phoned their performances in. Including everyone on the bench.

I never wanted Lennon back as manager. He has no clue how to change things when plan A isn’t working. We got a lucky break in the LCF. He learned nothing from that.

It’s clear now that while we may have better players Sevco have better coaches. Not Gerrard BTW!

I reckon they are favourites now. Unbelievable!

Still, the champagne corks will be popping in the Boardroom. The Old Firm is back.

Let’s see how much money we spend in January. Will it be another Willo Flood windae?

BTW Jobo my votes this week are for:

    1/ Broony

Nobody else gets pass marks sadly!

  28. At this point I want us out of the Europa asap. We need our top players playing less and available for one league game a week.

Forrest a man down today, Christie very poor. Anyone can miss a pen but his refusal to play a simple square pass to put Eddie through on goal in the first half was unforgivable.

  29. i'vehadtochangemymind on

Earlier in the season I posted that I thought we’d win the league by 3 points. I doubt that now. I think their squad is much better set up to take points in the second half of the season. One game doesn’t lose us the league but we had a 90 minute warning flag in the league cup final and we were impotent against them today. Not only that, we’ve had a great season so far. Very few blips. It’s there for them to go and win it. Only positives today – it’s before a transfer window and Lennie will be aware of the need to plan to negate them rather than hoping for them to fail. I think the guns have caught our whole club on the hop.

  30. CORKCELT on 29TH DECEMBER 2019 3:30 PM

Problem is at this moment in time we don’t look like sharing the points in the two remaining derbies. December was supposed to be the more difficult month for them and they’ve shown better form than us.

Fortunately we’ve got the break now to get back some energy and some form. We won a more difficult Europa league group so I’m not buying that they’re a better team, but we need to turn up in the next game against them

Another problem we have is what positions do we strengthen in January. Where would you see us buy for?

  31. There are rumours this teatime that the ‘unnamed’ English premier league club who had an 11 million pound bid for Morelos rejected earlier this week by the Ibrox club are set to come back in with a new offer for 4-5 million less……….hehe

What a load of mince he is in the big games.

  32. Disappointed. Rangers tactics seemed to work better than ours. Suffocated the middle of the park with numbers then attacked the space left by our full backs bombing forward. Often they had 3 forwards pressing our defence and we couldn’t pass it through them or hold up a longer pass. Thought we got very little from the 4 wide players ,although frimprong tried hard, and they couldn’t connect with the others.

It felt similar to other games. A bit 1 paced or complacent. Like going through the game thinking belief will be enough.

Saying that we missed a pen and had 2 headers stopped on the line. Any gap is very close. They’re going for it and we need to be up for it.

  33. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

I was going to leave my general comments until later when I may have some semblance of objectivity, but I’ve hit the gin so now is probably best.

I freely admit I’m no football expert and have never played the game to any decent standard. There’s also the fact we can all opine with the benefit of hindsight. Having said that, I’ve never once bought in to Neil Lennon’s view that Celtic are ‘in great form’. We’ve ground out results for a while, blaming ‘round pegs in square holes’ but at some point you either regain form and kick on or suffer a defeat. Today was one game too many.

Most of us would admit we would have picked the same team as Neil Lennon. The problem was the front 4 didn’t show up. Whilst Celtic didn’t play nearly as badly as at Hamden, the general flow and structure of the game took on a similar pattern with the ball being unable to stick up front/play breaking down and coming back in to midfield where Celtic seemed outnumbered. Ditto for loose second balls.

Where to begin? Johnson/Frimpong – I think they are 19 and 20 respectively? Both looked nervous, Frimpong less so when Celtic went to a back three. But probably not the best idea to play a couple of kids in the same team for such an important game. I see Johnson has been given a 5 year contract. Does he have talent? Those more knowledgable than me clearly think so (and so do I from what I’ve seen), but does he have have the physical robustness to play consistently at the top level? He plays a game or two then seems to be out for ages. With Frimpong I’d say the boy should be given tile to develop and look forward to the return of El Hamed.

Ajer and Julien did ok. Ajer’s challenge for their second appeared pathetic. Did the Sevco player just get a run on him or was he just out-muscled by a more aggressive, hungrier player?

Boil – ok. Nothing spectacular, but these are the games where you need to be counted.

Brown and McGegor were our best players by a mile. Particularly Brown who was head and shoulders above any other Celtic player. It’s probably not a coincidence he’s 34 and has bags of experience, which kind of reinforces my point about Frimpong and Johnson.

Exempting Johnson for his youth (a bigger, stronger, wiser Sinclair would have done just as well) the other 3 front players were simply dreadful. I’d maybe cut Eddy some slack as he didn’t really get the service or space, but he also has to realise it’s difficult to dribble through 4 or 5 players.

That leaves Forrest and Christie. The latter’’s penalty summed up his contribution, but at least he made one, which is more than can be said for Forrest.

  34. DAVID17 on 29TH DECEMBER 2019 3:51 PM
