  1. prestonpans bhoys on

Just back from the game, Forrest needs dropped,Christie and Boli very poor and can we stop playing Johnson against them, too light send him to the gym

Anyway at least I can have a drink now🍺

  2. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

    Ad Dun-correct.

They won an important game……..at Celtic Park.

A big monkey off their back.

As for Morelos, the monkey’s are still crapping all over him.

A striker is a clear priority, someone capable of coming in and scoring straight away. Elyounoussi & el hamed will be back, we have a good squad and will not give up on this title. I emphasise though I want out of the Europa, we need out top players down to one game a week.

Our run of away games in February and March will be crucial. We’re zombie table toppers at the min, I take no pleasure in being two points in front having played a game more – we’re effectively a point behind with more away games to play in the second half of the season. Worrying times.

    —————————————————————————————————————–

If Neil thinks that his team have performed “brilliantly” in recent weeks, I am certainly

    not convinced by his analysis.

    Times are indeed worrying.

  4. I’ll put my neck on the line and say I don’t want us spending £20 million in panic buys next month.

We have a model, stick to it. McCann talked about the long term plan when they were closing in on ten and he was right. As much as we hated to hear it.

We fundamentally are the solid club and will win more leagues than we lose over the next ten years.

A striker is a must though in Jan.

  5. I am guessing, and only guessing, that Neil has decided this season not to publicly criticise the team or individual players.

I can only hope he is truthful in private.

  6. Bournesoup. Against nothing

We have constantly just bought enough to to win

We had poor players today. Boil boil. Forrest. Johnson. We should be miles ahead of them

You can rest easy… £20M spend by us? Lucky if we spend £4M….

Peter’s not worried, he wins either way, blue pound is back.

  8. From @CelticF1rst

Imagine not winning 9IAR but having £40m in the bank?

Lawwell would get chased the entire length of his heated driveway.

    Big transfer window coming up.

  9. ONENIGHTINLISBON

They’re not back. Even if they win the league, they’re not back. They’ll still be a basket case and will have to face the certainty of administration or down size substantially.

  10. At big European games the stadium rocks. Everyone is in awe at the atmosphere, even when we are struggling the support tries to lift the team. Today it sounded very quiet unless Sky had the mics off? Maybe the 12th man didn’t show up either? Too nervous?

  11. THE BLOGGER FORMERLY KNOWN AS GM on 29TH DECEMBER 2019 4:28 PM

Honestly, what do you expect Neil to say? Big up Sevco and fall in line with the SMSM narrative? Why should our manager give them anything to gloat about?

  12. SYDNEYTIM on 29TH DECEMBER 2019 4:42 PM

    Bournesoup. Against nothing

Wow. Straight outta Follow Follow that one. Hand them trophies back everyone.

    Jesus H.

  13. Very disappointing end to a very good 2019.

Sevco deserved their win- Tavernier, Katic, Barisic, Davis , Aribo and Kent all played well. We had 4 completely off form players in Bolingoli, Forrest, Christie and Johnston. Only N’tcham, from the subs, showed anything.

Neil had a late change of mind on the team set up. Most posters applauded it. I thought it was “brave” but, in a “Yes, Minister” kind of way. Today, their midfield did not dominate- as they had in the Cup Final defeat- Jack and Kamara were as anonymous as our poor players but their two full backs and two “wide” men, Aribo and Kent, did do damage. Clancy was not a factor, except for giving us a penalty and missing a “hand” ball in our goal ( I still have no definitive idea if it is a legal goal or not).

There is not a lot new to learn from this game. Against any league challenging team , you need 6 or 7 players to be on good form: we barely had 4. Games are won by players, rarely by Fantasy Managers.

All bets are off or remain open when the league returns in January. Anyone pushing the “I told you so!” line will get deserved short shrift. As fans, we laugh at Rangers because it’s more fun than fearing them (or supporting them). There’s a false argument between compacency/expectancy & realism on here. None of our league wins were gimmes: thay all had to be worked for. We were in a race last year and, after Dubai, we motored on, despite our manager jumping ship.

That pattern might be repeated this year, or it might not. It’s all speculation and untrustworthy prophecy. There will be new faces to bleed in to both teams next year and it’s unpredictable how it will go. The neutral bookies still have us as favourites but some of our own are always going to make them favourites, such is their fear and anxiety.

There have been prophecies of lost leagues every year of our 8iar; maybe this time they will be proved right. No run can go on forever but, while there’s lots of reasons to be strong and hopeful, I won’t be joining the towel throwers, if you don’t mind.

I am happy to take my chances with bhoys like Brown, McGregor and Forrest who have contributed greatly to the 8iar already achieved. Sevco will have to be a hell of lot better than they were today to take this title from us. If they manage that, and do it legally, we will just have to accept that 8iar is as good as the run gets. But, no-one should be giving up as yet.

Save your forecasts of doom, until March or April. If they are relevant then, you can claim to have “told you so” to each other. If they prove to have been groundless, well I don’t expect you will be showing to share your congratulations on us doing 9iar legally for the 2nd time in my life.

    2020?

    Bring it on!

  14. Hate to say it, but we got what we deserved today. Giving the ball away cheaply, lack of press and some bloody stupid fouls added to our downfall.

However, we are a brilliant side nonetheless and I have no doubt we willl win the league again, just a bad day at the office . No need for knee jerk reactions and finger pointing, leave that to the meeja.

we win as a team, we lose as a team, and to be fair, it has been coming.

    Optimistic

    KINGLuBO

  15. An Dunn 100% agree with you

But we have no football department

    We have Peter lawwel

We should have had a player on left Not a wee bhoy in Johnston. We should have a another striker. Instead we have a chicken in Forrest

    Eduard all on his own

    They were Better team

We have better balance sheet and a well paid CEO

  16. Just judging by his reaction to victory at FT

    Gerrard IS feeling the pressure.

He may have a slight slight advantage at the halfway stage in the title race.

But he was one defeat away today from the mangers scrapheap and he knew it.

That’s why he celebrated like the disgraceful English football tommy robinson supporting hooligan he no doubt is.

But to be fair to gerrard he did get his tactics correct today and no mistake he came out of today with more credit that our own neil lennon.

In the long run i would still put my money on neil lennon being the last man standing.

Gerrard is basically playing for his next career path.

Things go well and he wins the title. such is his reputation as a player he gets a good premier league job.[i dont see him getting liverpool under any circumstances as they have moved into another level in world football now].

Things go badly and he continues his 0/4 ratio on scottish trophies he will be lucky to get the tranmere job [see john barnes 20 years ago].

Barnes team even won a scottish trophy that season under caretaker king kenny].

The pressure is ALL on Gerrard and the ibrox club despite everything you will be told in the media.

We cannot expect celtic to win everything all the time.

Celtic have been nothing short of incredible judged by any standard.

Our players have been immense and inspirational.

I refuse to turn on the team now after a they got beat in a match.

And some of the bull getting direct at wee james forrest makes me feel ashamed to be a celtic supporter.

I look forward to 2020 on here talking about more james forrest magical goals and assists.

I would not swap him for anyone in this country.

  17. Sid, Of course I’m not happy & yes Forrest was poor today as were 4 or 5 others.

All I’m saying is you cannot wipe out what this team has already achieved because of a single bad defeat no matter how painful it is.

We are effectively 1 point behind with 18 games left & 2 games against the Huns to go.

This is not a time for tearing ourselves apart, We now have a hell of a battle on our hands, we on blogs cannot win or lose a single point. All we can do is support the team & hope for the best.

I still believe we will win the League but if we don’t nothing will change for me.

I am & will remain a Celtic Supporter & will try to be fair & balanced with my contributions on here through good & bad days.

  18. SFTB. Why are you shocked that Forrest and Johnston didn’t play well v them. They both have form v them. I Wasn’t shocked

    They both are chickens

AN DUN on 29TH DECEMBER 2019 4:47 PM

I would say winning the league would make them most certainly back.

They live to stop the 9.

Bury your head in the sand if you like… that’s the issue with some of our supporters and the board….

  20. We are not likely to buy anyone any better than what we have already got. A forward to play 2nd in line to OE, a CH to play 2nd fiddle to Ajer and big Juli . . . realistically do you see PL spending 20 million on two players who will walk straight into the team?

I said weeks ago to sell Ntcham and use the money to pay Wanyama. That also means dropping one of RC or CM.

    Not likely, is it?

    No easy fixes.

  21. Sydney

    I hope you’re well.

The ole Rainjurz are sh*te argument?….. cited when Celtic win

the only trophies they can win.

Sevco rolled up today with their best by a distance, since 2012 annoying

but factual. Celtic weren’t good enough to swat them, it was hinted at in these very pages for weeks, (and the host knew Johnston would replace Ntcham, from what I read).

FWIW James Forrest has just written a book, that Bolingoli will never write and Mikey Johnston has just signed a five year contract, fending off all comers

PS The three of them were sh*te from where I was sitting

  22. From @rdenholm18

    Spot on Sir. 👏👏👏

@StandForCeltic Lennons in game management is poor… It’s ok starting bad, but when you can see its bad and can’t change it… Not a good trait for a manager

  23. Fritz. Arrived two hours b4 ko

What sort of Celtic fan are you if you thought that Johnston and Forrest would play well

    Chickens

  24. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Stephbhoy67 – for me we APPEARED outnumbered in midfield only because the front 4 didn’t turn up.

I think we now have to drop the delusion that in Johnson, Christie and Forrest that we have some kind Barca-esque strike force.

    As for the booing.

Celtic could have chosen the opportunity for cheap headlines and completely embarrassed them by having a minutes silence.

To applaud is someone’s memory is fantastic. Unlike them, I’m glad we chose the higher ground.

  25. Bourne. I was blessed to be at hibs Aberdeen and st mirren games. Landed in Sydney at 9:30pm tonite.left Glasgow at 6am with wee Sydney tim. I saw a wee bhoy in all 3 games who was a waste of a jersey

    Forrest. Time for a change

  26. Christie for all I admire his play this last year took a really shite penalty a couple of weeks ago and got lucky with the rebound.

Today his penalty was shite again.

Our centre forward SHOULD have been back on pens today.

moments like that change games and seasons.

  27. Celtic does not begin and end with the ten. If they win this league title and we win the next 6, it’ll be 14 leagues in 15 years. Great job.

So the long term success of the club should not be jeopardised over one defeat or even one league title loss.

Now I’m not giving up, we’re up against it but these players have what it takes. I think we’ll win the league but it’ll be very close. We clearly need a striker but after that I’m happy with our squad.

  28. back from the game and just read back, Lenny selected the team most of us wanted to start but why change the starting 11, having persisted with another for the last few games , when he could change to allow players to form partnerships.

So no excuses regarding losing today, we were rid rotten , brutal to watch.

JF sold the jerseys , hid all game offering no help or protection for frimpong.

Jullien and boli boli alledgedly cost 10m between them , we were robbed, what a waste of money, and Ayer is going backwards at a fair rate of knots is frightening .

I said a couple of days ago we would only lose if we continued to defend the way we had been defending against poorer teams and our goalie kept performing , we are far to weak defending, poor positional sense, I could go on and on but I would be shot down in flames by all the happy clappers.

  29. ST

“Why are you shocked that Forrest and Johnston didn’t play well v them. ”

I’m not shocked. Did you read that somewhere else?

In the CP fixture 9 months ago, I think some wee cowardly, invisible player scored and had an assist. I think he may have 6 assists against them , according to a Sky stat.

Today he was poor. I will praise him when he is good, ignore him when he is average and criticise him when he is poor. it’s called balance- you should try it!

    James was poor

  30. An Dun, Need an enforcer midfield as well, Brooney carrying us too much, he can’t keep going forever.

  31. OnenightinLisbon

“I would say winning the league would make them most certainly back.

They live to stop the 9.

Bury your head in the sand if you like… that’s the issue with some of our supporters and the board….”

But they haven’t won a league yet? Therefore. no heads are being buried or exposed.

Now, if someone was to say “They’ll never win a league!”- that would be head-burying behaviour

  32. Ron, Boli was poor and you might be proved right about him, so far he is a disappointment. Julien was one of our better players today along with Brooney & Ajer.

  33. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

    Fritz – nope.

‘They won today because we were poor. We will not play that poorly again’.

    Job done.

  34. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

We’ll beat by the better team today. Two non-performances in a row against them is a worrying trend. Seems Gerrard has our number. I would say we lost the midfield battle, except we didn’t even compete there until N’tcham came on. Lost every 50/50 and every header, Broony apart.

CalMac and Christie posted missing, Jamesy had a stinker.

Can we all agree Bolingoli is never a Celtic player. Straw for brains.

    Frimpong and Jullien played well.

We need to find an answer before the next game at Ibrox or we can forget 9 (and 10) in a row and content ourselves as a nursery business for the EPL.

We need a midfield enforcer for these games. No bum fluff covered 15 year olds needed in this window. Big Vic or his ilk. Otherwise we’ll be watching the same horror movie come March.
