  1. I was wondering if we have ever, when losing at home, simultaneously taken off two wingers and replaced them with two midfielders while chasing an equalizer.

Rangers defence had MJ and JF in their collective pockets.

  2. GFTB. James Forrest long glittering career. Lol at that one. 1st 5 or 6 injured And then took over from PR under the snake

Similar to Sinclair. One good season and now finished

  3. I know this one will be lost in the traffic but this is my first post from my new, fully functioning PC!!

And dare I even suggest that you should remember to send a wee email to me at cqnpoty@gmail.com ………..

    Off to a darkened room!

    SFTB – thank you.

Appearance stats are one thing, but who did Rogers choose when both were available?

The gist of my point is Forrest has no competition. My memory (prejudice) tells me Rogers played Roberts ahead of him when both were fit.

As for Roberts coming back now?

I think Foster and hopefully Neil Lennon (?) could be an exception.

    Never go back.

I expect there will be a lot of worried people in the Celtic Boadroom tonight ..

    ———-

I genuinely doubt it. The business side of things is ticking over and the 2nd Champions League place is within reach. As long as there is a version of Rangers around they will sell 50k season tickets and their buy cheap, develop and sell projects will continue to yield. Most of the Board are invisible and could not be picked out of a line up. PL will remain in place to deflect any flack from DD. Always remember, when you think about the Board, they do not think in the same way as we do.

  6. An Dun – I understand your sentiment but there is zero chance of us playing an under strength team in next Europa fixtures. Means too much to the board, players and staff to do well on big stage. Do well and profile is also raised for signing better quality players.

What’s galling, is the huns are more likely to progress than we are due to seemingly easier draw. Which also raises their profile.

We have had, and still have, plenty games where Broonie, CM, JF and RC could have been rested. 1-2 should be getting rotated each home game to allow Ntcham, Biton, Rogic, LG etc game time.

  7. yous are no listening jullien is not the dominant centre half we require in this league , , he hasn’t got the ability to play against the bustling style of the big target men in SPL, at best he is an old sweeper style playing behind a centre half probably better suited to the non contact football of hitting long passes or just clearing your lines and that pairing him with Ayer who is a very similar player is a bomb scare .

You seem to be happier slagging one of our players than discussing any game of football … a warped sense of view on anything Celtic

Again I realise you are 100% a Celtic fan but “oh my days” you don’t seem to enjoy it these days … maybe the 80s & 90s when you were travelling on the “Lisbon lions” bus (???) not sure what player then you would have been attacking … I like James Forrest and you obviously don’t … Neil Lennon rates James Forrest you don’t … I honestly have never encountered a Celtic fan to have so much of a hatred of one player, especially a very successful Celtic player … I don’t even like friends slagging Willie Garner, Andy Peyton, Wayne Biggjns, Carl Muggleton or one of my own favourites Stuart Slater … your dislike of James Forrest is worrying …

Roll on January this team of serial winners will go again

  9. James Forrest wants a good kick up the arse ,I will gladly do it,cowardly performance today giving young Frimpong no out ball……he wasn’t the only one ,Celtic players my fukn arse.

  10. Bhoys we were well humped.

French Eddie had no service. Fuckin pish. Sorry for the swear words.

We were beat all over the park.

But there is a long way to go…… By the way has anyone else been sick??? I must have a bug… Nothing to do with 7 pints and 14 double’s

    I worry at 53 I am turning into a lightweight. 😂

    D. :)

  11. Ron67 – I think I have been in a tiny minority of fans who have never been convinced that Ajer can be a CH. He is a good player but he is not good enough to hold down that position. He is too weak in the air, too slow in the turn and positionally weak at set pieces. I wonder if if is too late to play him in midfield where he preferred to be? Probably.

  12. Before I sign off for the winter break I’ll say this – Celtic will win the league. It will happen because, despite a poor enough run of form of late we are top of the table. We will improve. Our ‘contenders’ will not. They are at their peak and yet to hit a relatively poor run of form.

A few reinforcements in January would help. A strictly observed recuperation for Jamesy, Cal Mac and Broony are a must. I suspect Ryan C has run himself in to the ground too.

After that Celtic should think only about the next game between now and lifting 9-in-a-row

  13. Anyone on who was in the main stand when Morelos was sent off? Gerard said he deserved the red so why did they all go mental?

On Sky, John Kennedy just coolly stares at the guy who was frothing at the mouth trying to get ti him.

Thought Clancy did ok today. Christie yellow was soft but a few minutes later he grabbed Morelos by the balls which could have seen him going off. Penalty was a good call and he had a perfect view of our goal. If he had an agenda today he would have ignored the penalty and disallowed our goal.

We also got 6-7 minutes of extra time.

    Stephbhoy67 – i agree. However this is a catch22.

We looked way better when Nitcham AND Briton were introduced (Nitcham is robust and Nir is experienced. See my comment earlier about playing 2 kids in the same team), because we took off two passengers.

Those substitutions would not have been necessary had both being doing their jobs! It’s not like we were 3 nil up and looking to see out the game.

Johnson, Christie and Forrest (square pegs in supposedly square holes) were appalling. That’s why a DOUBLE substitution was needed.

    So I agree with you.

Celtic fans (and the manger!) have been lulled in to a sense that Johnson, Christie and Forrest are some kind of Barca-sequel strike force that can cut it’s way through anyone.

    They were blown away today.

  15. To me, the attitude was all wrong.

It was ‘ We beat them in the LC final when we played badly – average will be enough to win’.

Some things I noticed – Frimpong and Forrest is not a good combination on that RHS.

No criticism of Jeremie but Jamesie on his day can be really effective – I think he needs a more orthodox RB behind him.

I don’t know what was up with Callum but he was awfully quiet most of the game.

And going back to the attitude, midway through the second half, Frimpong had a throw and nobody would show,

Plus, other than the 2 CBs, there was a lack of height in the team when defending setpieces,

  16. Feck it DD, Garry get yer boots oot my son me and you LB and A handsome ball playing centre back like masell are in wi a shout.

Drew67 up top and Dell at RB 😂

Balls over the top for Drew to sprint onto Booooooom that’s how it’s done….

    D. :)

I too think we’ll win 9iar but we are not helping ourselves by some poor managerial decisions. This was their season, lose it and bang goes the league bang goes Gerrard too. Full throttle in mid field but no we play two wingers one out of form and the other with no pedigree against them.

As for those who think they are a good team, no. We are allowing a levelling by poor tactical choices sort that out and we’ll be fine

  18. Think we could all see that coming although not really admitting it, recently we’ve been winning but only by the skin of our teeth, hanging on against the likes of St Mirren, Hamilton, 10 man Aberdeen, LCF, these were all big signs that basically we were running on empty,

Kind of understandably Neil had only praise for the team during this period, but was hoping that behind closed doors he was telling them they had to step it up and do better, on the evidence of today – no – he must have been reading them the same script,

the only positive I can see is the January transfer window, its blatantly obvious to all and sundry now even accountants that we need to strengthen, in particular we definitely need more muscle up front, they on the other hand have a team capable of beating the champions so you could argue – the money men at sevco – that they don’t need to strengthen,

however if they do strengthen on an equal basis with us during the transfer window then all bets are off…it could go either way.

  19. JF’s contribution to Celtic over the last few years has been immense, but many fans I know suggest he doesn’t produce enough in the big games, especially against them. Why that is, I have no idea. I’m certainly no coach or psychologist, but I just wonder if Frimpong might be an option in the right wing spot (with El Hamed at right-back) after the break…which might give JF the competition/kick up the arse he needs.

Or maybe not…Christ, just absolutely sick with that performance today…but thanks all for all the updates.

  20. Petethebeat ,

other than the 2 CBs , there was a lack of height when defending setpieces

And there we have a problem because both of them are hopeless at headers in our box and in the oppositions.

  21. Denia

There is also a picture of him walking off on the James Forrest blog, titled Alfredo Morelos defenders….. where this would seem to confirm this. No mention anywhere as of yet, what a surprise .

    Jobo,

    – according to the official stats, when was the last time Forrest had a decent game?

Whisper it… I think the Huns being on our tails is a good thing

  24. When the League resumes on 22nd January we have a run of 6 League games in 25 days, 4 of them are away, none easy. 2 on plastic, Killie & Accies &2 against Motherwell & The Sheep.

That run will test our Title credentials.

Reality is we are currently 2 pts ahead and same goals, Huns have a game in hand at home to Ross County.

Reality is they are odds on to win it, so in my mind we are a point behind plus whatever goals they beat Ross County by.

People were laughing at the goals potential but in a tight race it could be a factor,

We have made it very tough on ourselves but it is still in our hands.

  25. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

    Peatthebeat – say what????

In the past few games I’ve thought he’s been off the boil.

Can’t fault him today. He and Broony were immense.

The only threat we had was Callum driving forward because none of the front four could take in a pass or lay off a simple ball to feet.

  26. Morelos had one good chance today and again he ballooned it over the bar from two yards out. The rest were pot shots easily saved.

He dives and cheats and when through on goal, puts the head down and hits the ball as hard as he can.

That will work against most teams in Scotland as his strike rate will attest to but the idea that this a tens of millions of pounds player is sheer fantasy.

He’s over weight and in all honesty, may have a mental problem. If the plan is tell sell Alfredo to balance the books, they’re in trouble.

  27. DERBY CHAOS Celtic vs Rangers: Alfredo Morelos and Michael Beale sent off in chaotic scenes at end of Old

    29 Dec 2019, 15:00Updated: 29 Dec 2019, 15:11

RANGERS star Alfredo Morelos ran his hand across his throat as he gestured to the Celtic support after being sent off in his side’s Old Firm win.

The Light Blues idol was furious following his dismissal by ref Kevin Clancy, who handed him a second booking for simulation.

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos gestures as he walks off

And El Bufalo made his feelings clear in the direction of the Hoops faithful as he walked off the pitch, with a Gers official telling him to calm down.

His dismissal also sparked a touchline rammy between Rangers coach Michael Beale and Celtic No2 John Kennedy.

The pair squared up to each other AFTER Beale had been sent off by Clancy for his reaction to Morelos’ sending off.

BBC Scotland sports reporter Alasdair Lamont said: “It did get pretty ugly there in the final few minutes of the match. “As Alfredo Morelos was sent packing he was gesturing to the crowd around about the tunnel.

“For people who know the area around the tunnel it is of course packed with home fans behind both dugouts and clearly they were giving Morelos a bit of gip.

“And Morelos was giving a bit back gesturing…drawing his finger across his throat which isn’t particularly a pleasant-looking gesture it has to be said.

“As he was ushered down the tunnel Michael Beale, one of Steven Gerrard’s backroom team, was also sent off for something he said round about that sending off.

“He then had a bit of a confrontation with John Kennedy, Neil Lennon’s assistant, and Neil Lennon himself got involved in that before Beale was sent down the tunnel.

“So all a bit fraught at the end as passions rose to fever pitch.”

But Katic popped up to head home the winner in the 56th minute.
