  1. Oh my days they are back…….. We have let the rats enter the Hoose.

A long way to go bhoys lets calm the jets.

SFTB – agree 99% with all you wrote, particularly: ‘ There is not a lot new to learn from this game. Against any league challenging team , you need 6 or 7 players to be on good form: we barely had 4. Games are won by players, rarely by Fantasy Managers‘. Spot on.

My only point of contention (prejudice): James Forrest. I wouldn’t want him at my back in a fight.

  3. SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 29TH DECEMBER 2019 4:49 PM

Good managers set up a game plan and changes if needed, players win games but no one is telling me formation, shape and tactics does not go a long way, jock, Alex Ferguson and so many others beg to differ.

  4. watched it on CTV here in Germany with several German

Hoops fans. We were all unhappy about the result but

not surprised with how it turned out.

JF having Angst about tackling a fish supper.

Huns have no Angst about tackling anything.

Therein lies the difference; battles must be won before

quality can be made to count.

  5. Corkcelt , sorry but have to disagree re jullien, causes panic in his own defence with woeful short passing , he has no positional sense, gets to close to his direct opponent and easily concedes free kicks, he can’t header the ball with any conviction and his timing is awful, not a great c.v. for a wannabe centre back.

  6. SFTB. Forrest is invisible v them 80% of time

Substituted 20 times this year. Poor poor poor

  7. I see that today’s disastrous result has still not deterred the complacency of many posters, some who yesterday forecast we would be 8 points ahead today. A few days ago, a respected poster, ( whose posts I enjoy reading) decried those who forecast disaster as no way to live. Well, if you see disaster ahead, you can plan for it, instead of sleepwalking towards it as we just did.

The inept performance in the LCF screamed warning signs, as did the slipshod games against Hamilton and St. Mirren. Yet we have our manager praising these performances, and posters looking backwards at past glories rather than the path ahead. To others, including me, the warning signs were obvious. Many on here wrote that no Sevco player would get into our side. Really? So how did 11 inferior players beat us today? Barisic and Katie play for Croatia, who, last time I looked, contested the World Cup Final. Boli and Ajer better than these two? Not in a million years.

We saw in the LCF that their center halves posed a real threat at corners. Yet we see Ajer outjumped, as he was against Cosgrove, and we have no one on the goal posts. Criminal defensive tactics. By contrast, their smallest man Davis prevented two goals by just being savvy.

Their midfield ran all over us in the LCF, yet today we have Forrest and the waif Johnson, who both cannot tackle a fish supper, abysmally failing to support Brown and McGregor. I completely agree with posters who think Forrest is a chicken. He hides behind defenders at throw ins and simply will not put his body on the line. Our set pieces have been abysmal for a long time ( how many penalties have we missed in two seasons?). Griffiths can’t get a free kick on target, and our crossing and corners are singularly inept, and have been so for a long time. The number of times we over hit every one of our players, with no one at the back post to recover, is simply shocking.

We allegedly have £40M in the bank, yet we have smugly gloated on our past successes and totally ignored what is coming up fast in the rear view mirror, epitomized by our dearth of striking options.

When Sevco win their game in hand, we will be overtaken by a bankrupt club. Our manager lately stated that the pressure is on them. I beg to differ. It is on us.

We are now told to be patient and wait until near the end of the transfer window for incoming players. Really? Liverpool, the current world champions, and 14 points clear in the EPL, did their homework, have already arranged terms with Minamino, including his medical, and he will be ready to go on Jan 1. They achieve success by planning ahead. We don’t plan, we react, and doubtless will be treated to some incoming loanees in late January. Will anyone here be surprised if the Zombie club outspend us?

I thought that our Board brazenly lying to the shareholders at the AGM was dispiriting enough, but confirmation today that we have complacently ignored the Zombie threat is a real downer.

  8. I’ve been playing catch up reading posts and got to page 15 so far. I’ve yet to read any comments on the following: 1) Who was the Rangers guy who went behind Celtic’s goal today and tried to relay a message to goalie McGregor before being escorted back to the dugout by a security guy? Was he a sub or was he one of their back room staff? Did SKY mention it.

    2) Who was the member of Rangers back room staff red carded today. Was it the same guy who was red carded against Hibs? Was it the same guy I mentioned in 1) above?

  9. James has manged fine enough in the fight for 8iar. He has earned the respect and trust of his managers and team-mates. But what do they know compared to us?

Stephbhoy- both Jock & Swalex had an appropriate appreciation of tactics and neither would elevate tham above 1) The effort of players and 2) the development work undertaken on the training pitches.

I never once heard either of them claim – “I won that game with my tactics”

  10. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Re. Forrest: does anyone know how often he started when Patrick Roberts was available?

Are Arzani and Shved right sided? Rogers signed/loaned both.

Currently Forrest appears to have NO competition.

“A few days ago, a respected poster, ( whose posts I enjoy reading) decried those who forecast disaster as no way to live. Well, if you see disaster ahead, you can plan for it, instead of sleepwalking towards it as we just did.”

We haven’t had that disaster yet. We just lost a match. and, brace yourself, i doubt it will be the last one we lose.

In some ways, I could assert that Neil reacted to the criticism he received for the disjointed team selctions he was prepping for the Sevco game and went back to what most posters were asking for, a 4:2:3:1. He tried to anticipate the disaster of being unbalanced and instead got the disaster of having the 3 behind Eddie all off form on the same day.

We all have the luxury of pretending we could have called it better but we don’t manage to do so in real time. Most posters were quite positive about the selection- check it out?

  12. Can anyone imagine the press reaction had Lenny and the Celtic bench acted in such a way at Ibrox last September?

No doubt we’ll hear about Gerrard’s passion. In reality he’s a thug. If that full time reaction doesn’t motivate these Celtic players then absolutely nothing will.

  13. glendalystonsils on

We seemed mentally and physically intimidated by them for large parts of that game . Ajer needs to work on his concentration , Julien and Boli need to work on their temperament or preferably play Taylor instead of Boli.

Johnston is a very talented player but this is not 5 a sides . As for Jamesie….what’s wrong with using your pace , running at defenders, committing them? What’s the worst that can happen? Lose the ball? Win us a corner or a free kick around the box? Do you not realise the significance of this game?

Christie I will admonish because he does have the qualities required but just had a poor game today. Broonie can not be expected to supply all the backbone and motivation required on the pitch. Lenny wants us to be mentally stronger , but that might mean having to sign one or two players who HAVE that mental strength.

  14. JF not taking part today. Man down with him.

    So, whats the story Lenny?

    Dreadful set up today.

  15. Oh and another thing throw-ins on our right side , every time frimpong takes a throw-in has he been instructed to throw it to SB every time even if he is being marked , the number of times we lost the ball from our throw-ins is shocking , another example of poor planning, if I can see its thrown to the same player then so can highly paid coaches.

  16. onenightinlisbon on

We seem unable to find our own player from a throw in. This is nothing new, was the same under the rat. Why is this?

  17. GM

Paddy had 3 seasons with us.

In 2015/16 he had 11 appearances

In 2016/17 he had 32 and

    In 2017/18 he had 12

In the same 3 seasons, James had 19, 28 and 35 league appearances.

Paddy has gone on to oblivion at Girona and Norwich. I wonder if Man City would now let him go and whether he would be worth a gamble as he’s young enough, at 22, to recover his career. It worked with fraser Forster

  18. THE BLOGGER FORMERLY KNOWN AS GM on 29TH DECEMBER 2019 4:58 PM

Respect your view but I see it a wee bit different. When Ntcham came on we had more control in an instance. For me it’s hard to win the battle when your going into the ring a man down. They picked up all the second balls because of the 2v3 and the fact we could not get forrest, Johnston and christie on it further up the park.

I would much prefer we matched up in the middle of the pitch so they have to work hard to control the game and bring others into play. If not that then I would prefer to go 2 up top to stop the easy possession they have got over the last 2 games by simply moving it along the backline, ps I would also prefer if guys like christie, johnston and mcgregor would actually try to pass the ball to eduard when he has picked up good positions rather than being gready so and so s.

  20. What a damp squib of a performance. How long are we going to persevere with this jaded 4-2-3-1 formation in the SPFL? I can understand it when we are playing against some of the better quality teams in the CL and EL but domestically? Not for me.

We ought to have enough quality to be able to play with 2 up top and only 1 sitting midfielder, although the fact that we don’t ever seem to HAVE 2 fit strikers available to us is another issue that will hopefully be addressed next month. We generally create a host of chances and score but a fraction of them. For me that is down to the fact that most of the chances are falling to midfielders and not strikers, who will convert a much higher ratio of opportunities.

Sadly we were second best all over the park today, but at least we will not be complacent during the winter break and will come back stronger again.

    SFTB

It costs us absolutely nothing to be cautious.

Especially since BR trying Mickey Johnson it hasn’t worked v them. We’ve struggled against them – to say otherwise is denial mate. Gerrard set up wrong at Ibrox. He’s scrutinised us as sends his players out to boss the midfield and win individual battles. He finds space in behind our attacking wingbacks – and but for the fact they’re not a stunning team we’d take a doing off of them.

    This is a fact.

Common sense says you reassess your nearest opponent and plan and act accordingly.

And Forrest has a poor record against them – always expect him to torture them – rarely does.

And if Frimpong (who’s very young and prone to poor decision making) is your best player – or one of – deary deary…

  22. Cork Celt

I thought Julian was outstanding again

So much pressure put on him as we played with ten men( Forrest a total waste of a jersey again

I saw the team A wee boy Johnston( Neil What on earth were you doing. Bad enough having a chicken on wide right , Forrest , and then having a wee boy who will never be a 1st 11 player in Johnston )

  23. We have to acknowledge that when Ntcham came on, they were dropping deep to defend a lead, they had tired.

Does not necessarily flow that Ntcham starting would have altered the match outcome.

Forrest, Johnston and Christie were poor today. That’s why we lost.

  24. 1) Nuno Sanchez has Wolves playing lovely and effective football….without a superstar in sight

    2) We have Adidas strips to look forward to next season…..hoorah

  25. Julien had two headers cleared offtheir line and won all his one on ones with Morelos. He definitely gets pass marks today. One of the very few alongside Brown and possibly Eddie to do so.

‘’Here We Go… We’ll win more titles than them over the next ten years…” doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Not a great night to be celebrating the business model. Or inferring that it trumps ten-in-a-row as a strategic priority.
