  1. What a day at Paradise.

I was fortunate enough to win the 4x hospitality tickets to the game today courtesy of Fleet Aliance.

A first class day from start to finish: service, food, drink, seats – amazing.

Myself, my Dad, cousin and an old CQNer ‘mcgraininspain’ thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Happy to still be invincible.

  2. Just back from CP, enjoyable game. Fair play to St J, they had a game plan and excecuted it very well. Pressed us high in first half then dropped deep and defended for their lives in the second.

We were lethargic in the first half but the introduction of the subs in second half gave us te momentum. But for very good goalkeeping, and blocking by defenders, and poor finishing we could have won with a few to spare.

Sinclair the stand out player although Bitton ran him close for MOTM.

Hopefully by the next game we will have a new centre half, forward and Paddy.

I’m happy to sign another striker but he has to better than Dembele and the Griff, else what’s the point

I’ve never had the impression you know anything about football, just the usual eclectic collection of abbreviations and concepts mostly it would seem just to hear the sound of your own voice…

But don’t worry there will always be a few to rubber-stamp your BS..

Inherent problems of an undefeated treble winning championship team..

    Zoom on mate…

Only one person to blame for Celtic not winning today …. WITS for being at the game

    WITS out :-)

WITS enjoy Babbittys and your post match refreshments with your fellow Cqners

  6. Just back from the game.

Along with the return of “The Fear” in the midweek game, we also saw the return of the post-uro hangover performance today. Very few players were at their feed and it was astonishing to see Kieran Tierney look so tired at the 70 minute mark (he got a 2nd wind for the last 5 mins mind).

Only Rogic, Sinclair and Armstrong were near their A game. veryone else was sub par, even the MOTM at CP, our goalscorer.

I know the refereeing and the South Stand linesman were shocking but that resut is mostly down to us. The decision to give Steven McLean only a yellow was astonishing, hard to believe it was not a bent decision, but it is not the reason we dropped points. We lasted 5 league games before we dropped points last year: this time we have reached that milestone after 4 games. We’ll just suck it up and go again- at least, Paris, Brussels and Munich will not leave any player with jet lag symptoms.

It is not a reason for despair or wailing but our last two games will help bring us back down to earth again. Brendan has the International Break to rebuild but we will be facing PSG in just over two weeks with largely the same personnel- as it is too early to throw new signings in and it will be a risk with many returning from injury. Our likely team will be

    Gordon

    Lustig Jozo AN other Tierney

    Brown Ntcham

    Forrest Rogic Sinclair

    Griffiths

With Armstrong, McGregor and Boyata/Dembele/Roberts as sub options

  7. Collum took incompetence to a new level today. MacLean forearms KT, he is looking straight at him and he only gives a yellow. MacLean catches KT with late petulant kick, nothing. Can’t comment on penalty claims as I didn’t have clear enough view but the challenges he was letting St J players get away with was a joke.

  8. Madmitch

You are moaning about us building from the back, Dearie Me.

I suppose we could just hoof it up the park and give the oppo a 50/50 chance of getting the ball back. FFS

That is a tall order if you are looking for someone better than Griff especially, for me he is the number 1 striker for Celtic, I really hope this window is not all about the pursuit of Patrick Roberts

  11. Corkie.

Hurray, a bit of sanity to the blog.

    WITS.

No need to worry about a lack of a scapegoat tonight.

    Craig Gordon and Jamesy again.

    Jeezo how soon some forget.

Was it SFTB who said Jamesy is always just a poor 45 mins away from being the scapegoat, whoever it was, if it wasn’t SFTB, was bang on the button.

    Hail Hail

  13. Home in jig time having said to ole EuroChamps67 at half time, I would take 1-1 and it was just one of those days.

Celtic didn’t get a break in the entire game after a nervy, leggy start the longer the game went on the more likely the winning goal was, but it remained prevented by the clock and the stuffy St Johnstone side.

We looked as if we’d just come back from the other side of the world and Saints were well coached to frustrate centre backless Celtic, and take advantage of an unfamiliar back four. Gordon Ralston Bitton Lustig and Tierney could all have gifted the opener panicking because of the Saints high pressing Tommy Wright in your face tactic.

A goal and still five time zones behind subs Armstrong and MacGregor faired much better than Ntcham or Forrest . It was Stuart Armstrong that probed for the equaliser and the bonus of his timely extension paid immediate dividends providing runs that no other centre midfielder regardless of price tag, can make.

Callum MacGregor took his chance of a game and a goal very well thank you and, Brown held the midfield together. Jonny Hayes is struggling with a jersey shrinking issue lots of SPL players encounter in green and white, I’d imagine Brendan will sit down with him and try and get him to relax.

The sooner Rivaldo arrives the better because he’s got an open goal to fill at Centre Back.

    M.O.M. Stuart Armstrong

p.s. Paddy Roberts would have unlocked the door, ( but you knew that anyway)

So what’s the point of signing another striker? To sit on the bench or in the stands for 80% of the season

  15. glendalystonsils on

Celtic by numbers critique of Bitton is in stark contradiction to Brendan Rodgers stout defence of the player following the Astana game.

I can understand Brendan needing to keep Bitton’s confidence from being undermined by negative criticism, but the fact is that we find ourselves vulnerable in a key area of the team. Boyata’s injury was unforeseen but given Jozo’s recurring injuries, we need to get this sorted.

  16. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Leave Jonny Hayes alone. I thought you all trusted Brendan?

    Jonny will do fine.

‘Paris, Brussels and Munich will not leave any player with jet lag symptoms.’

    ##

They’re young, professional athletes in peak condition who are waited on hand and foot when they travel. I very much doubt post European game blips are down to jet lag or physical tiredness. I think it’s more about psychological readjustment to the domestic game.

  20. SP @ 5.40

You were only 4000 miles out.

Unfortunately your knowledge of geography is better than your understanding of football.

  21. An exhaustive summe rof CL qualification capped off by a 6,000 mile roud-trip to seal a group place and numerous glamor ties against the odds.

An unbeaten start to the domestic campaign, 53 games unbeaten and counting.

But a 1-1 draw against a stuffy Saints side aided and abetted by luck and the requisite wee subservient Hun wank with a whistle and the bed-wetters are after BR and the squad with their plastic safety knives out.

Spare me the forthcoming torrents of woe-betide and PC Football Manager ill-informed pish, I’m off to watch Alien Covenant in preparation for cheering on Ross County against the Govan Xenomorphs tomorrow.

Well done the Hoops. Invincible we are.

  22. THE_HUDDLE on 26TH AUGUST 2017 5:50 PM

You would hope so. The problem is our need is now, we need someone who will go straight into team, post international break, to partner Jozo.

Boyata isn’t going to be ready for PSG in a fortnight having not played yet, doubt Sviatchenko will be ready, assuming he stays and Bitton would get torn apart with the pace and movement of the PSG front three.

Sign Coetzee as one for the future, like Eboue, and get someone else in. Keep Erik to January as well.

  23. Last week before deadline.. still no ch or cf. or winger.. Celtic Nevr build from a position of strength. Improve the squad. CF doesnt have to be better than MD or LG but better than their understudy e..g JH.. TR JF

  24. You can rotate them as he did with Griffiths and Dembele, when is Dembele going to be fit , no word on that, two is not enough for me and sometimes one or two wont be available due to injuries, Celtic will play about 60 games as it stands we are playing wingers in there, I doubt anyone will spend 80% of their time on the bench if he is a good player he will get a chance, if someone is signed who is not able to play first team football for Celtic do not sign him, Ciftci being a case of someone who should have been nowhere near Celtic.

  25. GDT @ 5.49

NB would be good candidate for a sweeper.

He has a lot to learn if he continues to play at CB.

  26. glendalystonsils on

The report I read on Coetzee was that a previously broken bone in the foot was refusing to heal properly.

I’m no medical man but I assume that would leave him with a weakness and possibly a recurring problem resulting in more time on thetreatment table than ole Derk Boerrigter.

  27. THE EXILED TIM on 26TH AUGUST 2017 5:55 PM

I read it was a bone in his foot that hadn’t fused properly, he has been playing with it for a while by all accounts.

Just read that when I did a wee google search on him

  28. DESSYBHOY on 26TH AUGUST 2017 5:57 PM

Dembele will miss PSG game, BR said it will be later in September before he’s ready to play

Most elite athletes will not compete within the same week that they return from a competitive long distance event. Runners and tennis players tend not to do it. Baseball and Golf might but the former rotate their pitchers, I understand and the latter are not asked to move with any alacrity in their sport.

The Astana team, and the Karagandy team, both showed late tiredness in their CP return fixtures. We had a 2nd half slump in Astana, just as we did in Israel. Can you think of a long distance trip in the modern era where those factors did not show? I won’t accet diddy examples like Suduva.

There may be a strong psychological element too but the physical factors cannot be discounted. I have never seen Kieran Tierney look like he did today.

  30. When you really think about it, it’s a bit of a shambles, going into the qualifiers with one CB and the groups with the same one who is injury prone, that’s a shambles whatever way you look at things.

  31. glendalystonsils on

    THE EXILED TIM

i suppose it depends on whether the foot problem can be corrected. Also can he continue playing meantime because our need is now.

    —–

Didn’t we go into the qualifiers with 3 CBs plus a few who could slot in (Lustig, Bitton). There’s not much you can do if 2 then get injured, apart from do a Man City and sign 4 new defenders.
