  1. Match report posted from the Tommy Gemmell Celtic Supporters Club bus.

    Geo’s pics to follow.

Great turn- out and warmth and comradeship at the ole CQN Corner today. Good to see and it really adds to a matchday experience.

Thought O’Hallaran tried hard to impress and he did make a goal out of nothing. The boy is a very decent player and would be well worth signing, given the implications it would cause elsewhere.

Delighted that both Dundee Utd and Hibs won ( with a few Celts scoring for Hibs) – ideal scenario Dundee Utd get to play-off position and Stokes inspires Hibs to win their league.

Dundee Utd then do to them what Motherwell did last year as we win the Treble.

CQN are taking two tables at the 20th Annuversary Dinner of the Tommy Gemmell CSC on Friday 8th April.

Lots of CQNers at the corner coming along – Doc, cowiebhoy, Jamesgang, Paul and many others.

I’m rounding up some Lisbon Lions too and hopefully TG will be fit enough.

If you’d like to join us drop me an email to david@cqnpublishing.co.uk and I’ll sort. The venue is Stirling Rugby Club which is a great venue.

  2. Watched the game on CTV and enjoyed. GMS when he plays, and scores, is like a dog with two tails. GMS and Armstrong looked to be really up for it and linked up well. Simunovic looked slow and danger came from their right wing and Tierney had not a lot of cover. BUT enjoyed the game and never stop supporting the Greatest Team in the World. Thank you dad.

Nite Nite Timland (12:40 Indonesia) Lets keep the CQN blog going. Thank you paul67

  3. Terrific to see GMS playing with so much freedom again he’s an exciting talent when on form.

Only failure today & if truth be known for a number of games was Siminuovic. For all the criticisms aimed at both Efe & Boyata, Jozo for me is by far our worst defender. He gets bullied too easily, not great in the air, falls a sleep positionally & today was taken to the cleaners for pace. For a big CB, defending doesn’t seem to be his strong point. Hopefully Sviatchenko is as described, a defender with a capital D. Though he’d be replacing & not picked to partner Jozo if it was up to me.

I usually back myself with a wee £5 or £5 each way just in case but today just before the off I put £2 on it, I try my best not to bet the nags even though I love watching them, as a bad gambler at least with the fit a its 90mins to lose your cash…..

Glad Mackay-Stevens & Stuart Armstrong scored today and I am happy with the way things are going, also Stokesy nabbing a wee goal (av got the Hibees at 6/1 to win that league a darn sight more than £2)

    Hail Hail

    TET,

Just had a look, seems I picked a duff site, sorry, will try and find a better site and go again, sorry for wasting time, oh and the poll result was 76% for 24% against from a poll of 25 votes.

Will try find a better site, see if we can get a better participation number.

  6. It’s taken me an hour to shovel the front steps.

Wonderful to see the two Arab players we signed turn up today.

How good is it that we can bring on three youngsters and the engine keeps purring?

My admiration for Tierney is increasing with each game.

The lad is unflappable, strong in the tackle and aggressive going forward.

    The lad is a star.

  7. What an effort by Aguero there . . .lobbed ‘keeper, but off post.

Brilliant play, then gets them a pen as he gets a touch to the ball just as defender, needlessly, sticks a leg out.

    1-1.

On delay, so not accurate scoreline possibly.

Apparently, Dele Alli scored an absolute beauty for Spurs today as well, for MOTD viewers.

  8. Just back from what was a very entertaining afternoon at CP. The midfield five all played very well as did KT, Efe and Lustig who looked back to something like his best. Only Simunovic and Griffiths were below par. People need to remember that Simunovic is still young and inexperienced so will have days like today. If he’s good enough he will learn from it.

Middle to front we are looking back to where we were second half of last season, the big difference is we have numerous options. Brown, Commons, Allan, Christie, Forrest either on the bench or in the stand.

  9. Enjoyed that today. Continued good form going forward. GMS deserved his MOTM but Mikel Lustig’s support play and Efe’s covering of his partner, deserves praise too.

I am a bit concerned re Simunovic’s issues with physical play. TBB, whom I was sat next to today, pointed out the many occasions where he was dumped on his backside or muscled off the ball.

St. J are a class above United and Hamilton and we lacked a bit of concentration at the back.

Overall though, we remain in good form.

  10. Tommy Wright has a assembled a tidy wee team, they played well today, they were ably assisted by Clancey, so all in all I thought we played well, some of the one touch round about their box was superb, and I agree with those who thot the Griff was trying too hard.

Is the weather over there going to affect the Superbowl semi-final in Carolina tomorrow?

Least of many people’s worries over there at the moment, I know, but just wondered about the extent of this storm.

  12. How that horrible little rat McLean stayed on the park shows how bad the referees are in this country. A swipe to bring down KT, not booked, a swinging elbow, no red, continually mouthing at official and when the keeper hit the ball off Griffiths he run about 40 yards to the referee brandishing an imaginary card.

  13. Played well. GMS and Armstrong looked great, Mcgregor had a great game. Jo looked not bad apart from his usual stray passing.

Ref was terrible lots of heavy tackling towards end of first half and nothing.

Great 3 points, Strong bench. Well done Celtic.

    KLV

  14. St. Johnstone are not a bad team as mentioned. Jozo looks as if he has concentration issue. Also at the goal too easy to stroll past us. KT is a star already. Watching Nadir in warm up and he doesn’t look like a man who is happy. I could be wrong but i think RD has realised he has made a mistake already. Poor from Nadir, Wouldn’t take shots at warm up or run for a stray pass. Attitude as well as ability.

    KLV

  15. Beatbhoy

Charlotte had the peak of the storm yesterday and Panthers said they had preparations in place.

    Panthers trained normally yesterday.

The storm is confined to eastern seaboard so the Denver game is not under threat.

    Pats and Panthers for me.

So with Andy winning last night, Celtic today and NFL tomorrow, being stuck at home in a snow storm isn’t a bad weekend.

I might just think about wintering in Alaska.

Nah. I’d need to get up far too early for games from Celtic Park.

    BURGAS HOOPS

Thanks for posting the goals, just got in and didn’t catch any of the game today.

Stuart Armstrong’s volley the pick of the goals for me although GMS also took his well.

Nice disguised pass from Johansen for the third. Wee Leigh will be bursting to get back on the goals trail

again too, which can only be a good thing.

  17. THE EXILED TIM

Yeah I used to give them the benefit of the doubt as well. But its all one way. We have the one tackle one card rule.

  18. Who can displace Efe on current form?

Boyata will have his work cut out to regain his place.

He is playing simply and talking and coaxing his team mates through the game.

    Charlie MulWho?

  19. The ref at our game today gave himself a difficult job by letting too much go and just a quick word.

Once he has done that he really cannot justify brandishing cards as he would just seem inconsistent.

Some refs ease up during games then depending on how the game is going, have a mad 5 mins pulling up every little incident if they want to tighten up the game discipline etc.

However certain fouls deemed as tactical where shirt pulling/holding is involved really have to be a caution by the letter of the law not to mention reckless challenges.

Today the ref seemed not to want to have to make big decisions and have an easy day.

A sub standard performance which should reflect on his future appointments in most countries anyway.

  20. ‘GG

    Thanks for that.

Both games will have a job matching some of the post-season games so far for drama, especially in the fourth quarter. Thinking of Bengals v Steelers, and Arizona v Packers especially. The Panthers even managed to make last week v Seahawks a nail biter after building that vast lead.

Good stuff! But wouldn’t have enjoyed watching them as much had we dropped any points today!

  21. Back from game

Well.played & had correct score :)) only 8/1 with Hills

10/1 when I looked at Lsdbrokes coupon

    Ah well…

One question – what is the reason behind the phone lights eing flashed by supporters ?

  22. Well just turned up at restaurant and my maw has arrived as a surprise from Worcester, I was talking to her on the phone outside Parkhead after the game!

A truly perfect day in the best of company indeed.

    Hail Hail and God Bless

  23. Hamiltontim have a great night with the family pal.

Best behaviour now that your maw is there, eat your greens and no phone at the table.

    Happy Birthday bud.

Who can displace Efe on current form?

Efe will displace Efe. He always does. Hopefully not in the next two games but once you start thinking he’s back to his best, he’s learned from his mistakes, he lets you down again.

Still a great player to have in the squad but will never be first choice over a long period of time because he implodes when least expected.

  25. Beatbhoy

Post season has seen the extraordinary become common place.

Tight games with tense finishes and memorable plays.

The Brady Manning match up tomorrow will be fascinating.

  26. Thanks for the update fhellas, another good result.

Glad Stokesy got a goal for Hibs, will do his confidence no end of good!

    Hail Hail

  27. Oh, and Happy Birthday Hamiltontim, read the post by your good lady last night, excellent…

    Enjoy the day.

    Hail Hail

  28. Enjoyed most of the game today,I will not dwell on the antics of the dim witted St Johnstone number 9….he was on a mission and failed.

GMS is a great player to watch and he was well supported by his bigger mate SA, only negatives for me were the pedestrian performance of Johnasen and SImunovic in the first half, although they did improve later on. McGregor also looked very sharp and is easily good enough to play in the SPL week in week out, it may not always be with Celtic though.

I was watching Ciftci ” warming up”. I can see a problem there, we should get him back up to Dundee quickly.

As for the worlds next big thing, O’Halloran. I can see what the Orcs see in him, he is strong and fairly quick a not so good version of Kenny Millers if you like. According to BFDJ he can play anywhere upfront or in midfield, so can I. I just may not be very good at most of the positions.

In essence, we do not need him. we do not need Callum MCGregor either, I am sure like Callum the lad O’Halloran will have a good professional career and wish him well. I hope we keep MCGregor until we get better and I hope St Johnstone get the right fee for their best player.
