Hi fella – that’s a one-off match. Look at our pattern for the first 10 this season and compare with last. We’re down.

Its the game we played last night and that we’re commenting on. St Mirren are the best team we’ve played in Scotland this season and we created enough good chances to win the game easily.

Over the first 11 games this season our Xg is only slightly down on last seasons average and we’ve played away games at the hardest grounds we’ll go to and three champions league fixtures. It’s better than Brendans third season and around the same as his second (I cant see records for his first)

  2. Getting to political on here ie Palestine etc, next they will come on here and tell you not to we’re a poppy,I’ve been a Celtic Supporter all my life 80 this month ,since these ultras have come on the seen they insist it’s there way or no way ,I like what they do for all in the community food banks etc ,but politics no ,I have worn the poppy nobody is going to stop me from wearing one ,My grandfather First World War ,my Father snd World war ,to ignore them is not on.

  3. Couldn’t go to the game last night due to a bad cough so watched it on Celtic PPV. I thought it was a good game to watch. We played some good football but our final pass was careless. St. Mirren pressed us very well for most of the game but we used the full width of the pitch very well. As well as Turnbull’s goal, he was unlucky with the penalty and their goalie made a great save from Palma from the rebound. The goalie made another great save I think from James Forrest and later from Kyogo one-on-one. Oh scored a great winner. I recognise that St. Mirren played very well but on another night that’s two goals for us, and three excellent chances saved by the goalie.

We need to realise that if we are if we are to compete compete at a higher level then we need to be tested domestically like this more often. Last night showed that we won because we have quality players. St. Mirren tried to snatch an equaliser in the later minutes of the game. I felt that was due to our lack of defensive midfielders. Our defence was left exposed but we prevailed. I’m absolutely delighted because we had half a team of players who hadn’t played for 90 minutes this season: Oh, Turnbull, Holm, Yang, Forrest, Phillips and we took the points. I’m sure Brendan will be delighted too.

With regard to the atmosphere, I wasn’t there so it’s hard to tell but I did notice a rise in the volume after St. Mirren scored. It did seem relatively noisy throughout and a very loud Cel-tic, Cel-tic chant could be heard in the last 10 minutes.

All in all, a very important win and a great three points.

  4. Didn’t get back home until midnight and only catching up now whilst stuck in a zoom call but reading back I think I was at a different game. Yes some “simple” passes were short/overhit etc but thought overall we played okay and stuck at it.

Atmosphere was good for a league game imo – wee lhad was singing along quite a bit (he doesn’t know the rebs so for me this means more Celtic songs/chants!).

Cheatin Beaton was his usual self. Ignored time wasting throughout, always making sure he wasn’t looking at it as if this means he doesn’t notice it?!. Palma was consistently pushed with 2 hands when cutting inside his man with nothing given though I did count 3 times when they did the fall down when Celtic player is near where he didn’t give them the foul.

1st VAR handball review at match didn’t make highlights so no idea on that one but should have been a 3rd review for what looked like a foul on Kyogo? Anyone got a clip of / link to this?

Agree with SFTB/RC – AJ looks off it atm – we had more issues down the right than left – I’d be tempted to go 3-5-2 (or even 2-3-5) for home games at least or even away ones against teams that don’t try to play – give Oh a wee run and rest the FBs.

All in all a good 3 points, well earned and felt more like a match than the Hibs game for sure.

  5. I forgot to say that the subs made the difference. Yang was very good and took his man on successfully and gave them a lot to cope with on a number of occasions. I really like Odin Holm and his assist for the winner was excellent which Oh took with aplomb. I’d like to see more of these guys when we have put a game to bed early on.

  6. Manager comments that Oh will struggle to displace Kyogo. Hells bells man, we play in a low block league. We could probably play with 2 at the back. For pity’s sake, have a day off and play 2 forwards and play football in the great tradition of this club. I could have wept last night at the sideways and backwards guff. We have been fooled into thinking that is how to play by people who were afraid of us in the 60’s and 70’s. Possession football is boring football.

Pleased with the result and do get the ole ‘grinding’ narrative.

    But…..

This team doesn’t create enough good chances…

    ……………………..

Don’t often disagree with you but last night we created about four or five great clear cut chances. That’s enough to win any game. I would be a lot more worried if we weren’t creating chances but we are. Recently against Hearts we scored four and Michael Stewart said the score could have been six, seven or eight.

Please give the new guys time.

It took Jota a long time to click and really deliver for us.

It took Aaron M a good few months to be seen as having any value.

Holm Yang Oh will have taken a lot from that last night. Hopefully now the 2 cbs and Holm are free from injury they can get more game time.

Saturday will be another grind against a big robust well drilled mob.

Aberdeen and Motherwell at home after that might allow us to try a few different things and maybe a few different players.

  9. Quadbhoy,

Agree with just about every word. How Beaton ignored the fouling Palma was subjected to by thon full back is way beyond a joke, as was his booking of Kyogo, who was deliberately obstructed by the defender.

    what game were you watchin

Palma got past his man quite a few times

On other occasions he was going past his man, was obstructed and got no decisions from you-know-who

he did tire tho and Yang looked not too bad

    ………………..

Agreed. Every time Palma beat Ryan Strain, Strain grabbed his arm and even once blatantly pushed him on the chest to knock him off balance. It happened on several occasions and Beaton took no action.
