Big improvement last night and deserved another goal. Bit more composure with the final ball and and bit more luck in the final third and the game could have been put to bed.

Its funny how the tone is set early on and refreshing to see a limited number of unforced errors. These change the course and flow of games and its no surprise this was achieved with Boyata out the team.

The control, vision and execution from Musonda for the goal were top class, likewise McGregor with the finish – if that goal had been scored a few hundred miles down the road you’d be seeing it for months.

Sometimes wish Edouard would try a shot instead of trying to dribble through defences, not really his strength and tends to run into defenders and lose control of the ball.

Very positive overall though and we must be confident of scoring over there which will give them a big task.

  2. See BBC have their own slant on our victory, “ first European win at home in 12 European matches OUTSIDE THE QUALIFYING PHASE”

Sorry for shouting there but are all of the matches not qualifying in some respect? group for last 32/16, 16/8….you get the drift. All of those matches to get into the group stages obviously don’t count. Who would have thunk it.

Great win last night. This is what it feels to be Celtic.

With Hot Smoked on the quality of refereeing. In Europe you tend to think if the Ref makes a mistake it’s because he’s a diddy rather than there s an anti Celtic agenda at work.

Having said that that Ref last night was a diddy par excellence in the 2nd half. Zenit guy booked for dissent should have walked for his tackle on Mc Gregor. A monsieur Dallas at work in terms of goatshagger selection perhaps…..

Anyhow away to further bask in the ambiance of yet another glorious victory obviously until I remember its justpart of a “qualifying phase” ….BBC.

HH. Have a good day Celts.

    Ps

As well as glorying in the victory I also get a certain warm glow from thinking of all of the Huns who lumped on Zenit for a victory on their busted Accas.

You’ve been down in England too long if you find Sweaty acceptable!

By chance,a Doors song was on my iPod last night when I was working-I’ve been down so goddamn long, that it seems like up to me.

Aye. I’m getting used to it. Doesn’t mean I don’t miss everything I love about home.

Tell you what, though. Being a butt of jokes about Scottish football is off the cards this weekend!

This was mentioned during commentary last night(Rob MacLean I think) but he was quickly put in his place by Chris Sutton who told him he was being very selective with his use of the data, or words to that effect :) Quickly shut him up.

    Howdy,stranger.

I’m trying to organise a Derry Hoot in June, but hotel space is seriously limited.

Not a lot of point saying to people to turn up and bring a sleeping bag,cos I imagine there aren’t that many park benches either!

I’ve looked at at October too,it’s not much better. Any thoughts?

Any help would be appreciated,I really fancy a trip round The Museum of Free Derry, for starters.

  7. Well great stuff last night , I hope to god we kick on from here . For my part I have been one of Callum McGregor’s biggest critics , last night the bhoy made me eat my words , he was fantastic . Onwards and upwards for the rest of the season celts , we can do another treble playing like that .

Our black panthers all clicked last night. Everyone a star. Pace and power.

I have seem musondas assist described as disgusting and filthy (in a good way)

After taking out three zenit pkayers 60 yards out he hared it , was still haring it when he took dembeles pass at speed and lobbed it onto calums chest.

I’ve never seen anything like it.

I’ve been a mineshafter of late. Not about Board policies etc but about how we played on the park.

You and N2 may have combined both issues more then me, but the fact is we’d seen less progress this season than many of us had hoped. Fair assessment?

Well boy did we see progress last night!

    3-0 wouldn’t have flattered us.

Sandman has marked fairly in the 10/10 stakes btw.

Played like a team. A band of rebel brothers.

Wee Charlie’s smile at the goal summed it up. So too did big Ajer in the first half when he celebrated a brilliant tackle like a scot scoring the winning try at twickenham!

The inclusion of our own young Lion no 88 was pivotal imho.

  13. Greetings from Kuching in Sarawak, Malaysia. Happy Chinese New Year (of the dog). Scorchio here only relieved by some ice cold Tsingtao beer.

Kuching is famous for its cat museum and for statues such as this https://postimg.org/image/c3nqp8fsl/ and this https://postimg.org/image/6fhfycqvp/

With a population of approximately 325,000 it has 9 RC Churches which is hardly surprising as the city is obviously full of CATAHOLICS.

    I’ll get my coat.

  14. What a tonic that was! We have comprehensively beaten a Champions League team with a great performance. We were missing Roberts, Sinclair, Rogic, Griffiths, Armstrong, Bitton, Boyatta and Gordon, all of whom were vital players during the run in last season.

The players, but most of all the fans, KNOW now that we have that kind of performance in the locker. What level can we reach when Brendan has near enough a full squad to manage? I feel encouraged by last night.

There are some cracking sides in this tournament. It would be terrific if we could get a chance to cross swords with one of them.

A club like us who play 48 domestic games per season, plus hopefully at least 12 CL games, plus post winter Euro ties, plus any Internationals that most of the quad get chosen for, are going to lose players through injuries and suspension. Our squad is very young and thus prone to be a bit inconsistent and even the best players go through lapses in form. What size of squad do we really need? How do we keep those not playing content? I think Brendan is doing a tremendous job and we could be in for a great end to our season with more shows like last night.

Thanks for that, bud. I would expect no less!

It’s not a problem finding accommodation,as such. It’s a case of seeing if there’s enough for say, forty of us,without paying through the nose.

Have a look yourself for the last three weekends in June-when The World Cup is on. Personally,I fancy the last few days of Royal Ascot too,but heyho.

Only about a third have any availability at all, never mind the price.

Bummer,I’m really looking forward to it,but much as I love my Dad,it’s not a real Hootenanny wi just the two of us.

    Well,mibbe in Kilwinning after a guid result…

  16. Pleased with last nights performance but their goalkeeper was terrible and we should have taken him for at least another 1 maybe 2. Charly was immense as soon as he came on only wish it had been earlier. De Vries was solid and collected crosses with an assurance we don’t always see from CG, doesnt mind going direct either. Simo was good yet had another recurrence of not spotting one of their players in his peripheral vision when attempting a back pass, nearly cost us. KT and Ajer also immense.

All in all a fine performance if we can do it again next week we should go through but I suspect we will see a different Zenit then.

  17. When I was taking the photograph of the second cat statue I was approached by 3 young Malaysian lads. Two of them asked to have their photograph taken with me on their separate phones. The other guy who took the photos looked both bemused and perplexed. I was wearing a Celtic top at the time. I said to the wife who was watching this from across the road that they were either into The Hoops or I have a doppelgänger who is a fat, gay porn star ;-)

Incidentally both of them shook my hand after the photos had been taken.

Cue the return of DAVIDOPOULOS perhaps?

Hope you have a great time.

  19. I’m not interested in slagging the ghuys who were slagging the team post Killie game.

However, I’d ask them to remember last night if things don’t go too well in the return game.

Whether we progress or not in the Europa, last night restored the feel good factor and hopefully we can now close out the League & see what happens in the Scottish Cup.

After the effort of last night Sunday may be more difficult than normal, hopefully Rogic & Paddy might be ready to come back & enable a couple of last nights heroes to be rested.

Lesson – do not mix amoxicillin and Stella and post.

  23. Our goal last night was magnificent.

Charly poise, control and pass on the halfway mark was exceptional. His desire to support the move superb. His ability and technique in being able to find Callum sublime.

Big Moussa’s confidence and strength in holding up the ball to continue the move reminded us of the player we knew we had last season.

Callum’s contribution was exquisite, a perfect denouement to great move and a terrific overall performance from him.

Not noted so much was the first time, one touch, precise pass forward to Moussa from big Olivier. What a pass. When the big man makes these early inside channel passes we are extremely dangerous. Think, left channel first time pass to KT, to Griff v Anderlecht, one touch, goal.

I reckon Olivier Ntcham is a player.

Me,I usually confine myself to a muttered Ffs at the game.

    Now.

Reason being,I took my kid sis-you’ve met her,you know what she’s like!-to Kilmarnock when Tebily was playing for us. Personally,I thought he could read a game brilliantly, but if he got there too soon, had too much time to think,he got brain fade.

So he did. And he got a muttered Ffs.

Second time nearly cost us,and I gave him both barrels.

Btw,my other point,I think, was valid. Sort your Union out.

  27. The three central defenders is the way to play in Europe for us. When we lost possession the wingbacks dropped back and made it 5 across the back with a midfield diamond in front. Solid looking formation compared to the CL games where we were too open in midfield. The fact the midfielders were able to keep possession instead of continuously giving it away was also key.

  28. so there is only one team playing in qualifying rounds for the treble??????????? …..and that is also a double treble .8¬)}
