Wee mention for Doris… Had little to do but I thought when called upon he showed. Also distribution from feet generally very sound.

    Pleased for him

  2. BT Sport don’t have big us up, their Twitter feed is all over us. To be fair we are not used to that type of coverage.

Absolutely outstanding from the bhoys. Brilliant team performance. Brown, Dembele, Ntcham (dead balls aside!) excellent. Ajer very mature game. McGregor probably the pick for me.

More like the Celtic of last season. Delighted with the clean sheet too.

Still a big job to be done, but we have given ourselves a chance.

  4. Fantastic team performance.

    Disciplined, composed, aggressive…

Pwoud, very pwoud of all the players!

    Should have won by more.

Not impressed by Zenit and I am now much more confident of progressing to the last 16.

    HH!!

The 2 co-efficient points for tonights win moves us 3 places up to 45 in the UEFA standings. If we get through next week (draw or win) and get a favourable draw in the last 16 we could move up another few places. That’s a very big IF though.

Looking at the teams above us, we should be seeded in the Champions League qualifiers, maybe even in the 3rd Qualifying round.

A lot of water still to go under the bridge, but we could still come out of this well.

  6. John Hartson said in his analysis of the goal that someone in Calum’s position who was lacking confidence may have tried to head it. Maybe that’s why the question was put to Calmac.

  7. Typical Glasgow Celtic blow away a giant of Zenit, whose only claim to fame is beating a team we buried in 2012.

Rodgers played the underdog card and Celtic did the rest, in a league set up that maligns Scotland led by masonry and archaic systematic national failure.

Celtic were fitter, faster and technically better than a club injected by money, from who knows where.

Not a single Celtic failure took the Euro night by storm and we played a pedigree card that St. Petersburg could merely dream of, backed with the Parkhead 12th man.

Don’t care about the second leg only care about St Johnstone.

  8. VFR800- Tnx for clarification. Hope result made you feel better. Me.

Chest infection for a week and missed 3 days of work. Result – written warning round corner. Union – as weak as Pisa. See what we can do.

  9. Art of war when have any of us ever asked for a spend of 26m on a player.

But we need investment not numbers in a bank account.

  10. Sevco sfa/smsm getting their ducks in a row. Desperate times for them.

Meanwhile we get credit for nothing, always looking for a negative.

Brendan and the Bhoys have put a spanner in their headlines for tomorrow.

Even sevconians ain’t buying eck for scotch manager

Tonight’s game could mark the start of Brendan’s mk11 team

  11. I should miss more games if it gets a performance like that.

Were the Russians affected by their break? :-

    Spartak 1 Bilbao 3

    RS Belgrade 0 CSKA 0

    Nice 2 Lokomotiv 3

Jury is out on the basis of those results. As Brendan said, we are only at half time- let’s enjoy it because they will still fancy it next week.

  13. Cultsbhoy,

De Vries’ distribution (including his willingness to go long) is great. Much more effective than Gordon’s wishy-washy let’s- gie- it- a- wee- chip- an’- see- where- it- lands approach…

The goal was stunning. A thing of beauty.

I don’t care what anyone says, cal Mac is a very valuable player for Celtic. I love the guy

    ———

Won’t get any arguments from me on that one. HH

  15. GreeninbingleyinOslo on

Just seen the goal again, properly.

I thought Calum had a towering game tonight, but to cap it with that – what composure, what a finish.

Not ignoring Charly’s lovely bit of skill at all, but that finish! Beautiful!

  16. Zenit spent £80m – it guaranteed nothing.

The really frightening scores were earlier this week

    Basel 0 Man City 4

    Porto 0 Liverpool 5

The Swiss and Portuguese are well run clubs who have invested in their team in a planned manner but they know they are, at this stage of CL, just makeweights.

I really wish I could believe that a wee spend could change our stars but I cannot see the clubs that are showing the way that Celtic should adopt.

We did that tonight with a very young team- with a CB who was playing for Killie, a RB playing bravely through injury and a couple of touted scapegoats who manage, somehow, to ignore the fered lines online and get on with their profession.

  17. Neg, Art of war when have any of us ever asked for a spend of 26m on a player.

But we need investment not numbers in a bank account.

My friend, we have just best a heavily doped Russki crack squad and we have ‘come out’ stronger.

    We are fuckin strong

    Cultsbhoy,

De Vries’ distribution (including his willingness to go long) is great. Much more effective than Gordon’s wishy-washy let’s- gie- it- a- wee- chip- an’- see- where- it- lands approach…

    =======

I take a different view. It was Dembele’s hold up play that provided the long ball option.

He won his fair share and the option meant less press on us at the back.

Sure Du Vries could punt the ball up but he had the freedom to do so when occasion warranted it rather than play out from the back.

Even Lustig who was sound tonight resorted to a couple of long balls in instance where before he would turn back.

Let the ball rather than his legs do the work.

Tonight I only groaned once when we went backwards when a forward pass was on.

Winning second ball from punts or pressing was really good tonight.

Really good to see Dembele contributing again just when it was most needed.

  19. Some good points about the money Zenit have spent. Couldn’t see the worth there tonight, perhaps they were rusty but they were average at best.

The CL now looks like a completely closed shop A 5-0 away win in Porto from England’s third best team? Right you are…

Some of the football in Torino and Madrid this week has been of a different planet. Us – and Zenit, and Porto and Basle – are simply miles away from that level.

Change is gonna come, soon I suspect.

  20. Goood evening CQN

Not long in, I park down the wee lane next to Celtic Club, so some clown decided to pan in my car windows tonights, ( several cars done)

Still, delighted though – the Celtic Won :-))))

Now not read one other comment, thought we payed as a team tonight

Moussa showing a wee bit form, ajozo, done well ( ok 1 scary pass), Wee Charly superb setting up the goal

    Very well done Bhoys

    Hail Hail

Now to get my car windows replaced with a smile

  21. Auldheid,

yes, but it was noticeable there was conviction in Dorus’ distribution, which simply isn’t there in Craig’s. If he kicked it, is was a solid, long kick, as opposed to a delicate floaty chip.

Agree about Dembele’s hold-up play: sublime.

I hear the Huns are running with an “increased” £9million bid for Morelos… Must’ve seen his miss in Ayr.

  22. Overall brilliant tonight Celtic.

    Every single one individually excellent.

    Collectively, as a team, dominant.

    Attitude, confident and positive.

    A true Celtic performance!

Well said. It was all positive tonight. The players battled to dominate and used their rang e of skills to great effect. It would be a travesty if they did not get a win. Well done to everyone involved. The atmosphere was special.
