Celtic were done by VAR but the title race is on

234

Celtic were done by VAR yesterday.  After receiving soft-ish penalty kick, which VAR John Beaton was unable to overturn (because the decision was technically correct in every aspect), he intervened twice in incidents which left scope for referee interpretation.  Consequentially, he determined not only the outcome of the game, but which team tops the league table today.

While struggling against Motherwell a week ago, clear comparable incidents to yesterday’s penalty and red card against Celtic were overlooked.  Yang’s red card was the most egregious of the decisions and ultimately led to everything that followed at Tynecastle.

For unrelated reasons, Celtic remain within touching distance of the top of the table.  Newco’s impressive record of only having lost to Celtic since September crashed at home to Motherwell. The two-point gap at the top of the table will not determine who wins the league as much as which team plays better in the remaining fixtures.  On that point, there is reason to be hopeful.

Yesterday’s 2-0 defeat was completely different than when Hearts won by the same result in December.  Celtic’s passing, movement and purpose was significantly better at Tynecastle.  We still struggle to know what our best 11 is.

Without injured Callum McGregor, there was still no place for Kyogo, who started on the bench.  After coming on at halftime, our Japanese fulcrum put in one of his better performances of the season, playing in a deeper role, behind Adam Idah.  In a side without Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor, there should have been a place for Kyogo.

Look back at the players faces after fulltime at Fir Park, the smiles and camaraderie, which had been missing, was clear to see.  Teambuilding took a further step forward on Wednesday and I am sure yesterday’s shenanigans will further build a siege mentality into the squad.

A friend recalled the 1979, 1986 and 2008 league wins this week.  Celtic looked unlikely to win around this time of the year in both those seasons, but they clicked at the right moment, leading to wins some of us still talk about.  It’s on.

I have seen these hearts clowns do this several times . When a Celtic player goes to collect the ball they throw it as hard as they can at his face . High time the cops were lifting them for assault .

  2. Weebobbycollins on

Right sir, I’m arresting you for throwing the ball as hard as you could at the aforementioned Mr Alistair Johnston… :-)

there was absolutely no reason for beaton to call robertson over to var for yangs challenge.

the challenge was clear, there was nothing additional that could be seen from watching var that the ref and everyone else seen in real time

and the ref correctly deemed it a yellow card

that should have been the end of it

the only reason to do it was because beaton wanted the player sent of and decided to.become the referee

we were told that var wouldnt be used to re-referee decisions

    but thats exactly what happened

and allows a cheat who isnt even on the park the power to change the game for his own agenda

  4. Weebobbycollins on

If Calum is out for two months then that is serious cause for concern…we missed him badly yesterday.

    Enjoyable stuff Pablo. Respect.

If there is a very public bandwagon of outrage against Beaton I’ll hop on gladly.

Privately though, closer to home, the biggest changer to the final outcome yesterday was ours to control – the penalty kick.

If indeed there is a systemic issue at Celtic, we won’t fix that in twelve weeks.

So, some mitigations required in training between now and end May.

    Great read back.

According to the manager our captain is having another scan on Wednesday.

If that’s the case there is no new information regarding his injury.

    Nada más.

That’s the problem with paying “top” refs £90k per annum to referee.

They get used to the £90k per annum lifestyle and have to sustain their income after they retire.

I was at the game……….Real were/are some team it was a great night.

  11. It’s self-delusion to refer to Kyogo as a talisman or fulcrum. We can start to do that when he has scored as many goals as Gary Hooper did.

Yes I am… and Paul Brennan can confirm I was reading this and speaking to him about the blog over a decade ago. There are about 30 regular Jewish attendees. We tend to know each other. Home and away for half of us.

My first game was in the 70’s versus Penarol. Bottom line as long as people like G Fearon are around things will not get better. Bet he wishes the number 113 he mentions was 114. More to the point what sort of a person has that info ? Apart from a a raving nazi ! And to those who think this long term lurker is a wind up merchant I am not. It was simply time to share with the decent supporters my side of the story that’s all.

No matter the top 6, we will have three homegames after the split

We must get 19 home games.

I’m sry but the Zionists have no moral compass whatsoever. I might be wrong, but israelis and Palestinians should be able to share the land. I agree that the slaughter of 7 October was horrendous, it was a drop in the ocean compared to whats happened since.

Israelis should be condemning and trying to stop the slaughter. Netanyahu is an evil war criminal, only slaughtering thousands of innocents to stay in power. How have the Israeli people accepted him as pm?

You have yet to answer my question.

Either 113 countries got it badly wrong, or, the blame lies elsewhere.

History can guide us to where the truth is.

The truth fears no questioning in fact It’s a moral imperative to chase and tease out the truth, no matter how shadowy or ambiguous or how unpalatable some may find it.

    The worm is turning.

  16. Bada Bing,

I get where you are coming from, however BR is a multi millionaire.

  17. !!Bada Bing!! on

GP- I know that, but it’s more a collective message we would be sending out, would gain publicity…….but probably not in this country. HH

  18. An appropriate message would be the board publicly demanding the recordings of the interaction between the ref and var

Not that I think we will not ask, am sure we will (we better)

But they must be seen to be doing this for the fans and the manager

  19. The old chestnut of personal safety being wheeled out, these referees provide a service for which they do not want any scrutiny and are paid very very well for a part time job, accountabilty is essential to stop referees with biases acting on these in a place of employment, it must be the only country in the world where referees are thought to be unbiased, its impossible humans all humans have biases.

  20. Won’t be long now till the var billy boys names are kept secret to safeguard them from any accusations of bias

    😁

  21. I demand to know the address of the place the SFA buy the data cables for the VAR peoples

    We must know……..

  22. great bit of business

We have taken 2 players who did not want to be here (for whatever reasons) in turnbull and abada

And generated 10 mullion for the pair of them

    Ta ta and all that

  23. I might be wrong with this ,but when Craig Levine had that speel after Dundee utd were cheated in a big game v you’ve guessed it . Was he not fined and he said he would pack it in before he paid it , and don’t think he does d . It was a scandal that day .

  24. !!Bada Bing!! on

Posted many a time about VAR, you can’t get a game from your own country, you will find out your game 10 minutes before kick off,so guys in TV studios in Glasgow do AC Milan v Lazio etc….simple, but the biased clowns in this country would resist,as they need days like yesterday

  25. Back to Basics there asking for any spelling faux-pas…

Most grateful for your comments this evening.

I’m afraid the Tell with the Green brigade was the support for the “resistance” on the very afternoon of the worst pogrom since the 2nd world War.

The Celtic fans are the best anywhere especially when the real fans raise their voice; my highlights were partisan Belgrade (of course we lost that night) or 3- 0 against Cologne a couple of years later (creaney Collins Mcstay ) and then 6 -2 (Lubo’s day.) , Great nights everyone one of them

The orchestrated anti Israel display by the green brigade on the evening of the Atletico Madrid game in particular and at other times is the saddest thing I’ve witnessed since Mark Walters.

Teyve I’m sorry you’ve had to see that garbage, and I’m a wee bit sadder still that a cracking young player has been hounded out the club because of his Heritage by the green brigade.

I for one will be hoping for the best for Leil.

    Shalom

  27. Clunks @ 7:29pm…I get your point re getting a decent fee for Abada, but how much more could we have won and how mucch more could we have demanded in a year or two if those coked-up pretendy-Ultras in the corner had actually stuck to supporting Liel, rather than isolating and alienating one of our best young prospects and driving him out the club? We’ll never know, but at least they got to wave a flag….
