Celtic work remains below-radar

898

I like the below-radar way Celtic have operated this transfer window.  Mikael Lustig arrived early without much of a murmur and Rabiu Ibrahim’s trial and signing went through with casual understatement, while Jaroslaw Fojut completed a pre-contract agreement before many of us had even reached his Wikipedia page.

Most of the headlines surrounding Celtic have been in connection with English clubs wanting our players, closely followed by public declarations of ‘I’m going nowhere’ from the players in question.

Compare and contrast with the situation over the city.  Almost daily Nikica Jelavic has to deal with a completely different scenario his club have placed him in, today telling STV, “The manager appreciates me and likes me, but I know the club are in a difficult financial situation and if they decided they needed to sell me, I would accept it.”

If you bump into Nikica tell him he’s talking rubbish.  His club were recently bought by a billionaire, they have no financial difficulties and they are reliably informed they are going to win their tax case.  Rangers players telling the media that their club are in a “difficult financial situation” are miles off-message.

It’s on Twatterati, which is a shade higher than a text and two shades higher than a taxi driver.

    If it’s £2million we’ve spent well.

I expect the big goalie would be happy till the summer for one very good reason, massive pay cut if he signs now, innit.

  4. Reported in todays Shields Gazette.

NEWCASTLE United goalkeeper Fraser Forster is close to a £2m switch to Celtic.

Forster’s on a second season-long loan at Celtic Park, and Celtic manager Neil Lennon last week told of his keenness to turn that move into a permanent one.

The Gazette understands a fee has now been agreed between the two clubs, and the proposed move now hinges on whether Forster can agree personal terms before the end of this month’s transfer window.

There is not higher authority on Celtic’s dealings than the Matriarchs of Coyle.

  6. Does Owen Coyle’s granny have any inside info on who might be the next Bolton manager?

Personally I’d like to see Gerry Butler get the gig.

Fraser might be looking for better personal terms than if we took him at an earlier oportunity. I’ve always been comfortable with him even with his faults because his good points more than cancelled them out. This season his faults are fewer and less obvious and he could be thinking that should be reflected in his wage packet. The clubs have apparently settled on a fee (although isn’t that done at the beginning, in the loan contract) but FF is talking about being happy to leave any deal until summer. It sounds like a bargaining ploy to me.

    BMCUW,

seen the wee oil slick last night on newsnight, he had the bare faced cheek to claim the snp is the party of the minorities. Its a pity Paxman doesnt know anything about scottish politics or he could have challenged him on the destruction of evidence, identifying scotlands shameful stats on crime against its biggest minority eh.

I actually read that as ” Celtic” and wondered what you were on about!

If , indeed, they want the cash up front, then I would assume this will be another embarrassing `transfer` fiasco for Rangers.

  14. Afternoon all.

I was sat chatting to a pal of mine at work, here in sunny Newcastle, about the whole Poundland scenario. It struck us that there could be a future Hollywood blockbuster detailing all the shenanigans on the darkside. Our concern was that it may be too unbelievable a tale to make it to the big screen but if we could overcome that we turned our thoughts to what we could call it and who would play the leading characters.

Apparently, there is a movie out there called “The Inconvenient Tax” and “Apocalypse Now” has already been done. With the creative minds we have on here I thought we could come up with some suggestions for the title and the lead roles. Your thoughts are most welcome!

It was also mentioned that his previous club GAIS when the signing was announced, stated something along the lines of ‘now the wait begins'(compensation).

I have a wee different view on last nights Paxman interview with Salmond. I seriously thought Jeremy descended into infantile arguments “how will you get the gold back, on a big train to scotland”, and then the reference to “like Mugabe”, was just beyond the pale.

And like Cameron, just reinforces the Independence position.

“Has a player ever been idolised by a club that he has never played for?” asked Simon Coulthard last week.

    from Guardian Books

Plenty is the short answer. Clubs around the world have soft spots for those to have never worn their shirts:

Albert Kidd The former Brechin, Arbroath, Motherwell, Dundee and Falkirk striker is a legend at Hibernian despite never having played for the Edinburgh club after his two goals (the second of which was preposterously good) against Hearts in the final 10 minutes on the final day of the 1985-86 season denied Hibs’ rivals the title.
