Celtic work remains below-radar

898

I like the below-radar way Celtic have operated this transfer window.  Mikael Lustig arrived early without much of a murmur and Rabiu Ibrahim’s trial and signing went through with casual understatement, while Jaroslaw Fojut completed a pre-contract agreement before many of us had even reached his Wikipedia page.

Most of the headlines surrounding Celtic have been in connection with English clubs wanting our players, closely followed by public declarations of ‘I’m going nowhere’ from the players in question.

Compare and contrast with the situation over the city.  Almost daily Nikica Jelavic has to deal with a completely different scenario his club have placed him in, today telling STV, “The manager appreciates me and likes me, but I know the club are in a difficult financial situation and if they decided they needed to sell me, I would accept it.”

If you bump into Nikica tell him he’s talking rubbish.  His club were recently bought by a billionaire, they have no financial difficulties and they are reliably informed they are going to win their tax case.  Rangers players telling the media that their club are in a “difficult financial situation” are miles off-message.

  1. So if Rangers go burst and Murray buys clyde etc etc – can they dodge their debt and be back to playing football in three years? Could Murray have had this planned? I’ve always considered his ego far too rampant not to have held notions of saving his ‘institution’…

  2. Murray chose to go public.

This is more significant than that he was talking to the manager or anyone else.

I have no idea why he chose to do so, however.

    Algarvian,

Non players were paid through the EBT – but I don;t think anyone has ever managed to get a list of the names involved

    Interesting, cheers.

I don’t expect Celik to play for Rangers unless they punt Jellylegs in the window.

If the Huns don’t manage to raise some doe then expect the Celik move to fall through due to ‘excessive demands’ from the Swedish club.

Of course, if they sell Jellylegs then Boyd will be drafted in to fill the gap as a cheaper option – so Celik may still not play.

Reading between the lines then, its fair to assume Celiks’ Rangers debut hinges on money coming in for Jelavic….

We should put in a bid for La Femme Nikica, then drag out the payments, for years and tears, like it was only a tax bill.

I’d be very surprised if that happened given it is not just Rangers but all of the Murray companies that are being pursued on the EBT issues.

  12. Forget about rangers on here ,if you want to talk about there problems feel free to join anyone of there sites, look at the big picture concerning our strikers,if hooper or stokes or sammi get injured, who can we turn to Bangura injured, rasmusson whom lenny dos,ent rate .so rather rant and rave about rangers woes ,the punters on here should tell celtic football club to get a decent striker in.

  14. Could anyone explain why Murray or anyone else could simply buy Clyde and create Newco? Aren’t they owned by a family who have experienced first hand the anti-Catholic mindset that is (was) pervasive in the SFA? Would they want to collude in the preservation of the club which epitomises that attitude.

I think we should tell the board to build a new stadium somewhere, in case a meteor hits Celtic Park this week…

  17. I see Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths has got a two match ban from the sfa for gesturing to his own fans.

Hibs are not going to appeal. Would liked to have seen him play at Ayebrokes, one of their better players imo.

If you don’t want to read about the Huns and their woes go on to Swallow Swallow (any auld crap).

We don’t need to create any crisis at our club – despite your best attempts.

I’ve been looking at that site Newsnow for years with Celtic of course as the search subject. For some reason I had a brainwave and put r**gers in. Look at the bounty of gems you can unearth.

    Smugness is an awful trait…but…

Huns will break hands off any lover above £6m for their best senior player. Celtic not even opening discussions on a relatively junior player until £10m is offered…

Jelavic is critical to Hun first 11.James F is an option in Celtic’s .

  22. The Knowledge in The Guardian newspaper is one of those columns where readers can ask questions that are then answered by other readers. I think someone mentioned an Albert Kidd entry the other day (the question was about players who are idolised by clubs they never played for.)

    Here’s a question from today’s eedition:

“I was just browsing Dixie Dean’s Wikipedia profile and was surprised to read that he was a Mason,” writes Mark Johnson. “I was just wondering if there are any other known footballing Masons or any footballers belonging to other mysterious, secret societies?”

Mo Bangoura is a practising Druid, an ancient secret society of great antiquity and secretiveness.

He sees the goal as a wee Stonehenge-like sacred structure, and for that reason most of his goals are scored to coincide with the solstices.
