Celtic’s perils on show again

1679

So are we surprised at last nights’ defeat?  There’s some surprise that we scored three goals away from home, which if we count Moscow, is becoming a habit, if an incredibly lax one, but I’m less surprised we shipped four, again.    Even at full strength, we are several players short of being able to play Ronny Deila’s high-energy pressing game, so when the squad is further depleted by rest, injury and the like, we cannot expect to play an expansive game and come away with a result.

Fortunately the outcome didn’t matter, but it will next time out in this competition.  I’m very supportive of Ronny and think we have not even begun to see the real benefits of his work, but he got it wrong when he opened up a game which did matter in Warsaw.  We’ll need to see if he decides to play this way, with many of these players, in the Round of 32.  For then we either need to add appropriate players or change tactics.

There’s been a bit of chat on how attendance figures are reported.  Football clubs report paid seat sales, which baselines attendance at season ticket sales, but the ‘bums on seats’ figure is usually far lower.

The showbiz side of the game will always want to report the higher figure: see – our fans are faithful through and through, and all that.  Only Manchester United and Arsenal report higher average league attendance figures than Celtic in British football.  This claim maybe reliant on ticket sales, but it is an important indicator of the size, and therefore potential of our club in the right environment.  Not to mention the efforts many thousands go to in order to financially support the club, in sunshine or in shadow.

It was still somewhat refreshing to hear the new newco director inform the media that his club attracted less than 16,000 people for a recent home game.  The cynic would point out that if newco fall into insolvency, the excuses are already established – fans are not as loyal as they claim, blame then, not their unfortunate execs.

Many thanks for all the feedback on the 2015 CQN Annual.  You can order yours here, or get a special Annual-DVD bundle here.

As a special offer, everyone who buys an Annual, or bundle, before Christmas will be entered into a prize draw for a VIP Meal of 4 at a Celtic Park restaurant on a match day.  One entry for each Annual bought; pile in.

Our friends Magners, who I increasingly think get what this club is all about, have offered us another pair of Premium Tickets for the Jock Stein Stand on Sunday.  It’s a great way to watch football, especially on a winter’s day.  To enter the competition, email me celticquicknews@gmail.com with the name of the team Celtic play on Sunday in the subject line of your message.  Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, winners will be informed by email tomorrow, so check your inbox!

The deal I have with Magners is that when we make this offer, we ask you to consider making a £1 (or more) donation to our Mary’s Meals Appeal.  We are working towards building a kitchen at Chibwata Priimary School in Dowa, Malawi, which has 909 pupils and does not have food preparation facilities.

With a kitchen – and Mary’s Meals providing food – they will be able to provide primary school kids with what is often their only square meal of the day.  This work cuts infant mortality, improves school attendance by an average of 30%, and increases life chances exponentially.

No matter what you do today, this £1 will do things you cannot imagine.  It will make your day worthwhile.

I’ll be out with my boys on the bucket collection for the Foundation before kick off on Sunday.  If I’ve not coaxed your last £1 out of you, bring another one along to the game.  The spirit of Celtic needs to take care of those in our own community, as well as in one of the world’s poorest countries.

Sorry for all the calls to action todaym in summary:

The Annual, with a VIP Meal for 4 competition.
The Magners’ competition, email celticquicknews@gmail.com
The Mary’s Meals £1.
See you at the bucket collection on Sunday!

Yeah they will beat them on the last day of the season to deny them a place in the play offs:)))

Who among that bunch of currant buns has the wedge to run a football team..

It is and has been for years about the wedge to fill the black hole and even if the black hole was to be “disappeared who would fund third rangers starting from scratch all over again and as toxic to a bank or suppliers as the previous two…..

The guy on SSN, on after 7 seems to be off message as well. Stated that the ‘reformed Rangers started in the bottom tier’. Doesn’t he know it was the same club and that they were demoted. Jim White will be re-educating as we speak.

    My thoughts exactly.

The scam has been on for long enough, to dump 150Mill +is no mean feat, collateral damage is inevitable.

Fife for a while, possibly, but me thinks it’s their licence that is the key thing here, I reckon the suits at the other clubs may well baulk at a hun 3 back at the expence of more deserving candidates, just the way I read it.

We will see, but as sure as eggs are eggs, sumtin is afoot, and it sure does stink.

There have been rumours in the last week or two that the Blue Knights were trying to buy over Airdrie, rebrand them as Third Rangers, and play out of Hampden.

Celtic Underground are claiming tonight that Jabba is briefing the press on behalf of McCoist so I would say the fix is definitely in.

It might be Airdrie, it might Cowdenbeath or AN Other but there is no doubt in my mind that the dregs of David Murray`s Rangers board – are already trying to take over another Scottish club and port over their brown brogues, dignity etc.

As they did with Sevco, Sally and Walturd will be the public face of this spivvery, placemen recruited as figureheads to part gullible red neck zombies from their cash and try to claim that the new club is somehow the real Rangers.

Must admit not to hearing the rumours about Airdrie, but whoever it is, it’s all about their licence to play.

Nothing else matters at this juncture imo.

  10. The trigger was the Laxey bloke coming off the board the other day. I reckon they’ve said they won’t invest in more in future share issues, so perhaps other won’t follow suit and they’re doomed to failure making admin (at best) an imminent possibility.

  11. The sfa will assist any way they can.

If Mash needs to be told to do one, they will tell him so.

A near derelict stadium that he can’t demolish is no what MA has in mind.

Presently we have no clue as to who has the deeds, but for sure it ain’t anyone who is a true blue hun, this may take time to resolve to get them back, in the meantime they need a licence, just reading between the lines, but I reckon I won’t be too far away.

Airdrie, Cowdenbeath, Ally McCoist, a downward spiral if ever I heard one!

Be a long time before they do anything in the game again, that’s my belief..

I don’t believe in the hun bogeyman:))

  13. The third rangers fix would fit with the all of a sudden new line in the media, ‘started’ a t bottom, ‘new’ club etc

    TET 2256-

Airdrie are particularly vulnerable to such a move. They have real financial problems, they don`t own their stadium, and they have been hit with increased charges to rent the stadium which they can`t and won`t pay.

They were looking at the possibility of playing out of Cliftonhill next season, subject to Albion Rovers agreement, but it seems to me they have no long term future.

And in Jim Ballantyne they have a chairman who is a dyed in the wool hun and who would do anything to help the orcs out even if it meant finishing off his own club.

Ballantyne gave an interview to the local paper in the week the huns went into administration in Feb 2012 saying that Rangers couldn`t be allowed to die and should be bailed out and kept in the top flight. He also attended a Linfield v Sevco game in Belfast in July 2012 wearing a Rangers Fighting Fund lapel badge. All whilst he was the President of the Scottish Football League!

I think he is one for the watching, even more so than Donald Findlay.

Is it possible that sally now knows where Michael is taking sevco and is now allied to king etc, aiding and abating them to bring sevco to administration quickly, allowing king etc to get a bargain from the administrator ……. The only problem with my little theory is that they would be taking on Michael at their peril
