Celtic’s perils on show again

1679

So are we surprised at last nights’ defeat?  There’s some surprise that we scored three goals away from home, which if we count Moscow, is becoming a habit, if an incredibly lax one, but I’m less surprised we shipped four, again.    Even at full strength, we are several players short of being able to play Ronny Deila’s high-energy pressing game, so when the squad is further depleted by rest, injury and the like, we cannot expect to play an expansive game and come away with a result.

Fortunately the outcome didn’t matter, but it will next time out in this competition.  I’m very supportive of Ronny and think we have not even begun to see the real benefits of his work, but he got it wrong when he opened up a game which did matter in Warsaw.  We’ll need to see if he decides to play this way, with many of these players, in the Round of 32.  For then we either need to add appropriate players or change tactics.

There’s been a bit of chat on how attendance figures are reported.  Football clubs report paid seat sales, which baselines attendance at season ticket sales, but the ‘bums on seats’ figure is usually far lower.

The showbiz side of the game will always want to report the higher figure: see – our fans are faithful through and through, and all that.  Only Manchester United and Arsenal report higher average league attendance figures than Celtic in British football.  This claim maybe reliant on ticket sales, but it is an important indicator of the size, and therefore potential of our club in the right environment.  Not to mention the efforts many thousands go to in order to financially support the club, in sunshine or in shadow.

It was still somewhat refreshing to hear the new newco director inform the media that his club attracted less than 16,000 people for a recent home game.  The cynic would point out that if newco fall into insolvency, the excuses are already established – fans are not as loyal as they claim, blame then, not their unfortunate execs.

Many thanks for all the feedback on the 2015 CQN Annual.  You can order yours here, or get a special Annual-DVD bundle here.

As a special offer, everyone who buys an Annual, or bundle, before Christmas will be entered into a prize draw for a VIP Meal of 4 at a Celtic Park restaurant on a match day.  One entry for each Annual bought; pile in.

Our friends Magners, who I increasingly think get what this club is all about, have offered us another pair of Premium Tickets for the Jock Stein Stand on Sunday.  It’s a great way to watch football, especially on a winter’s day.  To enter the competition, email me celticquicknews@gmail.com with the name of the team Celtic play on Sunday in the subject line of your message.  Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, winners will be informed by email tomorrow, so check your inbox!

The deal I have with Magners is that when we make this offer, we ask you to consider making a £1 (or more) donation to our Mary’s Meals Appeal.  We are working towards building a kitchen at Chibwata Priimary School in Dowa, Malawi, which has 909 pupils and does not have food preparation facilities.

With a kitchen – and Mary’s Meals providing food – they will be able to provide primary school kids with what is often their only square meal of the day.  This work cuts infant mortality, improves school attendance by an average of 30%, and increases life chances exponentially.

No matter what you do today, this £1 will do things you cannot imagine.  It will make your day worthwhile.

I’ll be out with my boys on the bucket collection for the Foundation before kick off on Sunday.  If I’ve not coaxed your last £1 out of you, bring another one along to the game.  The spirit of Celtic needs to take care of those in our own community, as well as in one of the world’s poorest countries.

Sorry for all the calls to action todaym in summary:

The Annual, with a VIP Meal for 4 competition.
The Magners’ competition, email celticquicknews@gmail.com
The Mary’s Meals £1.
See you at the bucket collection on Sunday!

I read a post by HT through the week which really resonated with me. I know we get frustrated, disappointed and then sometimes flip and go the other way but in the main at the core of us all is a deep love of Celtic and our roots. These feel like exceptional times and change is upon us but ‘if you know the history’ it is incredible where we are. I on occasion, to my eternal shame, take it for granted and then I remember the hurt, the struggles, the corruption, the ecstasy and downright bloody joy…

Celtic features in my life every day: in a thought; a conversation; a blog; a match and so it goes on. The letters that make up our name and core even make me smile. Sometimes we need to remember what we have.

With Ally its always all about Ally.

His backs to the wall, he knows the board want him out and hes now doing what he does best…trying to look after himself and get as much money as he can screw out ‘The Spivs’ as he can..

Only one side leaked the story to the Mhedia and it was McCoist, for his benefit

He knew fine well tonight was a tough game with the fans ready to turn on him so he has turned it round, timing is everything.

Hes offered his resignation he hasnt resigned, already the mhedia spin has the man in the street saying McCoist wants to go to go but the board wont let him…..no he has offered to resign on HIS TERMS with 12 months wages in his already bulging back pocket.

By offering his resignation he has said I’m now prepared to work my 12 month notice and continue to be employed and paid for a year. He knows fine well that the board know the minute the players know he is leaving he has to be removed from the dressing room for the good of the team. So we all remember how Rangers crumbled after Smith said he was leaving after NIAR or hwo the Man U players performed when Ferguson said he was leaving the first time.

Ally ‘the spiv’ has used all his mhedia contacts today to do what hes best at after scoring goals, looking after himself and screwing as much as he can from his employers.

Only the Gullible or those with a brown brogued agenda cant see this.

H,mmm there just might be a sensible hun or two out there.

  15. Remember that fitba film Swally made with Duvall? That story is more believable than Swally as a fitba manager.

It’s been an enjoyable day. For all the years that bassa rattled dodgy goals into us and for all the quips and digs at Celtic It’s come back to bite Swally on the erse. Pleasing!

There have been rumours in the last week or two that the Blue Knights were trying to buy over Airdrie, rebrand them as Third Rangers, and play out of Hampden.

Celtic Underground are claiming tonight that Jabba is briefing the press on behalf of McCoist so I would say the fix is definitely in.

It might be Airdrie, it might Cowdenbeath or AN Other but there is no doubt in my mind that the dregs of David Murray`s Rangers board – are already trying to take over another Scottish club and port over their brown brogues, dignity etc.

As they did with Sevco, Sally and Walturd will be the public face of this spivvery, placemen recruited as figureheads to part gullible red neck zombies from their cash and try to claim that the new club is somehow the real Rangers.

I’ve never thought AM was a good defender. Sometimes when bounding forward he looked good. But I’ve never seen anything over the last 3 years to think he is a great defender.

Mikael Lustig though is a good defender. Our only world class player. He could play in any league.

Reading the reaction to all the McCoist news makes it very obvious that most of the Rangers fan base, along with the SMSM, can’t understand the basic political compromise that gave birth to Sevco.

Charlie and the Spivs had the assets. Ally and the Real Rangurz Men could deliver the fans.

Recall that when the Green One showed up he was originally talking about austerity himself. Thinking, incorrectly, that the Rangurz Men would recognize this necessity and the fans, understanding that the original iteration of the club was being LIQUIDATED because it couldn’t meet its obligations to its creditors, Charlie was in the period where he was supposed to be “Nanny McPhee” and the fans would have to thank him later.

In all fairness, that’s the way it’s supposed to work. A set of distressed assets, burdened with unmet liabilities and too high of a cost base, has its value unlocked by drawing a line under the old business model and putting the capital to more efficient use. Charlie would make his money the old fashioned way: selling on the reorganized business at a profit.

I’ll say this for Chuck: whether the death threats and safe houses were real or not he figured out the score pretty quickly and opted for a far better scheme. He saw the power of the Rightful Place myth and adjusted accordingly.

The fundamental problem: how do you make money from a company that doesn’t make money?

Well, as long as you’ve got *ahem* “loyal” customers, naive investors, and the threat of being able to put a valued institution on ice (ask Bomber) you don’t worry about the business making money. You just figure out as many ways as possible to drain liquidity out of the business as possible and make sure you’re not around when the money runs out.

But to make it work he needed the fans. And that meant dealing with McCoist and his crew and making sure they got theirs. Was Ally cynical, or merely naive? I’m not sure I care. ANY time austerity was suggested he stood in its path. To him, the myth of Rangers had to be sustained at any cost… including his totally inappropriate cost. Handy that.

Then I read nonsense like this from Tom English: “A few weeks back, a Rangers supporter wrote McCoist an open letter and published it on a fans’ website. . . And here was the thing. The fan wanted McCoist to leave his post as manager and to publicly expose those who had brought the club to its knees – a last and selfless act that would guarantee his beloved status forever and would render all mishaps, including the recent capitulation against Alloa, utterly meaningless in the big picture.

It was a plaintive cry, well-argued and, it would seem, it had the support of a growing number of the club’s fans. McCoist could have arranged his exit and left to the sound of respectful cheering, a hero once more.”

    It’s. Not. A. Mystery.

Who “brought [Rangers] to their knees”?

They all did. And you still can’t see the obvious.
