Celtic’s perils on show again

1679

So are we surprised at last nights’ defeat?  There’s some surprise that we scored three goals away from home, which if we count Moscow, is becoming a habit, if an incredibly lax one, but I’m less surprised we shipped four, again.    Even at full strength, we are several players short of being able to play Ronny Deila’s high-energy pressing game, so when the squad is further depleted by rest, injury and the like, we cannot expect to play an expansive game and come away with a result.

Fortunately the outcome didn’t matter, but it will next time out in this competition.  I’m very supportive of Ronny and think we have not even begun to see the real benefits of his work, but he got it wrong when he opened up a game which did matter in Warsaw.  We’ll need to see if he decides to play this way, with many of these players, in the Round of 32.  For then we either need to add appropriate players or change tactics.

There’s been a bit of chat on how attendance figures are reported.  Football clubs report paid seat sales, which baselines attendance at season ticket sales, but the ‘bums on seats’ figure is usually far lower.

The showbiz side of the game will always want to report the higher figure: see – our fans are faithful through and through, and all that.  Only Manchester United and Arsenal report higher average league attendance figures than Celtic in British football.  This claim maybe reliant on ticket sales, but it is an important indicator of the size, and therefore potential of our club in the right environment.  Not to mention the efforts many thousands go to in order to financially support the club, in sunshine or in shadow.

It was still somewhat refreshing to hear the new newco director inform the media that his club attracted less than 16,000 people for a recent home game.  The cynic would point out that if newco fall into insolvency, the excuses are already established – fans are not as loyal as they claim, blame then, not their unfortunate execs.

Many thanks for all the feedback on the 2015 CQN Annual.  You can order yours here, or get a special Annual-DVD bundle here.

As a special offer, everyone who buys an Annual, or bundle, before Christmas will be entered into a prize draw for a VIP Meal of 4 at a Celtic Park restaurant on a match day.  One entry for each Annual bought; pile in.

Our friends Magners, who I increasingly think get what this club is all about, have offered us another pair of Premium Tickets for the Jock Stein Stand on Sunday.  It’s a great way to watch football, especially on a winter’s day.  To enter the competition, email me celticquicknews@gmail.com with the name of the team Celtic play on Sunday in the subject line of your message.  Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, winners will be informed by email tomorrow, so check your inbox!

The deal I have with Magners is that when we make this offer, we ask you to consider making a £1 (or more) donation to our Mary’s Meals Appeal.  We are working towards building a kitchen at Chibwata Priimary School in Dowa, Malawi, which has 909 pupils and does not have food preparation facilities.

With a kitchen – and Mary’s Meals providing food – they will be able to provide primary school kids with what is often their only square meal of the day.  This work cuts infant mortality, improves school attendance by an average of 30%, and increases life chances exponentially.

No matter what you do today, this £1 will do things you cannot imagine.  It will make your day worthwhile.

I’ll be out with my boys on the bucket collection for the Foundation before kick off on Sunday.  If I’ve not coaxed your last £1 out of you, bring another one along to the game.  The spirit of Celtic needs to take care of those in our own community, as well as in one of the world’s poorest countries.

Sorry for all the calls to action todaym in summary:

The Annual, with a VIP Meal for 4 competition.
The Magners’ competition, email celticquicknews@gmail.com
The Mary’s Meals £1.
See you at the bucket collection on Sunday!

I heard something similar about Cowdenbeath when all these shenanigans started. The fact that it did not happen then for a faster route to the top flight also supports the where ar ra Title deeds thing.

    Who honestly knows?

Very few I’d wager but those who are in the know have all got to play their parts and Craigy Whyte’s will be the most interesting one or possibly the funniest.

It is wait and watch from here on in.

Any suggestion that they can have multiple identities just makes it all the more ridiculous.

I remember the two of them ashen faced after going into look at the books together , then craigy boy phoned big haunds and their plans were derailed.

They are dealing with the big spivs now ,who wont just hand it over to huns.

  3. When you think about it,money wise, how much money have the huns taken in December?

Nothing in the Scottish cup game.Probably lost money with full stadium open.Last weeks game at Ibrox.Again probably lost money,as nothing taken at the gates, and full stadium open

How many will turn up for the latest round of dross next week?.The following week, they are at Easter Rd.

Thats a full month with even more losses than usual, probably close to £1 million.I cant see this carrying on for much longer.Could be another record low attendance next week.

    Happy days,eh.

Still reckon it’s all about a licence.

When they went pop a few years ago, the only ones who actually stood against them were te supporters of D Utd and Aberdeen, they told their suits, huns and you can kiss goodby to season books, the Celtic support were too busy eating Jelly and Ice cream to do feck all, it will be the same again imo.

This time I hope the suits from the smaller clubs grow a pair, but as ever money will out.

I have a friend Mario in Croatia who is Celtic daft. He and his little daughter just love everything about the club, even though they have never been outside Croatia. Mario lost his wife and is himself not in the best of health, but he is dedicated to his daughter and they were recently homeless due to local bureaucracy until the new Mayor of his town stepped in and supplied them with a modest apartment.

Yesterday Mario made his way to Zagreb to fulfill a lifelong ambition to see his beloved Celtic in the flesh.

Last night he sent me this:

I ‘m going home put my hat just as morphine yields and its end of the game but I managed …I managed …I managed my dear friends ..I saw the holy Celtic though we lost but celtic is sacred …when I entered the stadium to the south where the best fans in the world …I started to cry ..I cried with joy dear friends and I go home and I would love to forever be with Celtic …celtic and his fans are something best in the world …celtic is eternal forever …let no man resent …but my god, my soul is filled …I can get you all hugged you are the best ..I went celebrate all the good what happened these days …of obtaining housing what I got ( thank Mayor Kristina ) and everything and everyone I am grateful …I could enjoy all day but these few hours are special best in the world ..the birth of my child now and apartment …and thank you dear people , and I pray to God that I see one day Saints Celti Park …thanks for the tickets that we purchased Celtic fans..God bless …Thanks to everyone for everything becouse its so much what you do fir my daugter Ira me and my family … God bless my very good friend Dubravko who help me whit walk and all and just something great..i knowe all this is to much but for me first time for god sake i am so proud and happy and people who see celtic every week dear god that is something special .. God bless you … Dear god bless you i love you Croatia Celtic family forever …i write now all this and cry of all … GOD BLESS YOU GOD BLESS YOU GOD BLESS YOU HAIL HAIL

I received the above after reading some of the self-indulgent nonsense posted on CQN last night by so-called Celtic supporters who simply do not know how lucky they are, and it made me want to weep too.

    I’ll leave it there.

  6. What is the Stars on

I am actually starting to feel sorry for them. How sad is that.

All this talk of Cowdenbeath and Airdrie and Third Rangers, all baloney, they are totally Donald ducked,

And may the Lord have mercy on their soul

Guys some great articles have made it into the third CQN Annual.

As I said earlier on, I am particularly proud of the Amsterdam article as no one was telling that story at the time and there is very little press about the subsequent decisions of the Dutch courts.

There are lots of great pieces in there and as usual WC has seen to a fantastic production.

Not for the first time, I am going to highlight the huge amount of work that WC puts into CQN Productions at considerable personal cost.

Don’t get me wrong, he has never told a good joke in his life and it is rumoured that he once bought a drink — though there are no witnesses to that.

And how he ever snared Mrs WC is a complete and total mystery……..

    ——————————————————————————————————————–

    I know!!!!

I was saying to Paul the other day that I don’t have enough time to write anymore or as often as I used to which, personally, I find really annoying.

I have various stories part written but most are not Celtic related and are for inclusion in a Strandsky Tales old and New e-book — which I should have produced at least two months ago.

Hence my post of the other night when I said that it was time for change …. and it is.

  16. I think if they implode this time, that will be that. Even their most stupid supporters wont buy the notion of the “same team” suddenly playing at Cowdenbeath or Airdrie.

But if CU are right, and Jabba is back on the scene batting for Sally, then some sort of plan is clearly afoot.

Time to stock up on the gelato again…

  17. Lefty

I agree re handpicking, they have done a grand job.

They will never be a force again for some time, but they still have the sfa, the media, and anyone else who matters on their side, they will never die with the dignity they profess to live by, there will be a 3rd hun, nothing surer, there is no other option, they can’t afford anything else.

Whether the 3rd hun takes off is anyones guess, but they will play the bigot ticket, and there are many bigots out there to make it happen.

    I can rest easy that I have seen them die, and will prob see them die again, 10 years ago they would have locked you up for saying that >}

  18. We are a shambles away from home in europe.

Our best performance was away against Maribor where

we were tight defensively and fought and won possession

in the middle of the park.

That should be RDs blue print for how to play away from home.
