Champions League day is here!

264

Champions League day is here!!  Our season has never before started in a stadium in Reykjavik which holds less than 3,000 people but, on paper, it is the perfect venue.  Should Celtic qualify for the group stages, there will be greater challenges, and when they come, we will be grateful for these competitive games.

Cameras will focus on Ronny Deila before kick-off.  I am beside myself with anticipation to see how his team plays, but it will be a while before we get a true picture of that.  Tonight we’ll see Neil Lennon’s team, inspired by little more than encouragement from Ronny and John Collins.

A win and a clean sheet, please, Celtic.

  3. My thoughts on tonight’s game for what they’re worth.

The point tonight will be about how the defense moves the ball forward and how they and midfield move when we’ve got the ball and how they track back when we haven’t. It’ll be interesting to see Van Dijk and Ambrose’s roles (should he play) I hope and trust Ambrose plays the defensive role allowing Virgil the opportunity to exploit the space and link up with the midfield.

    No long balls please.

Roonie Delia hasn’t made any friends in SPFL by stating the coefficient should be club and not country based….

  8. All,

Our apologies for harping on about the upcoming Celtic v Dynamo Dresden game, but we wanted to give you an update.

    We have planned the following entertainment during your stay for those who are traveling over for the game;

Friday 18-7-14 : We have a local singer to entertain anyone who has arrived early for the game, played the follwoing day. Admission is free and no surcharge for the band.

Saturday 19-7-14 : After the game, we have organised a singer from Glasgow (member of Celtic Cousins)! He will entertain us hopefully celebrating our victory and there will be the chance for everyone to ‘give us a song’ during the evening.

Sunday is, well it’ll take care of itself!!

Both events will be based in the Shamrock Irish Pub (details in this link http://etims.net/?p=5206)!

Before the game, most members of the Dresden CSC will leave from the Dubliner Irsih pub (see link above), as it’s closer to the stadium!

Anyway, for those traveling over for the game, we hope you enjoy the trip and hopefully enjoy the hospitality we’ve tried to put together!

    Hail! Hail!

There are some on here who continually advocate summer football. The World Cup Final was on Sunday evening and Celtic are playing in Iceland tonight. Question, were there any games last night?

  18. BT – Ah’ll joco ye! I’ve gone with Celtic minus 1 at evens. As I plan to do in every game we play this year. Probably.

Anyone heard anything about the final CQN Predictor placings. I blew it scoring zero in the final but thinking (hoping?) I might not have been the only one.

  19. In Bangor tonight…any ideas where the match might be on? Lots of red hands fluttering around this neck of the woods…

  20. No score at HT in the Slovan v TNS match on SC4.

We could be drawn against the winner on Friday in CL 3rd Q round and to be honest, I think our U20s could handle either.

Livibhoy, you joining us in the Murrayfield Lodge before next week’s match?

  23. Hate reading ‘Celts chase champions league £15M bonanza’ type headlines.

For top teams in Europe £15M is peanuts.

It’s no about the money as such, I’d just love a good run in Europe with a good side

I know it’s the game plan…..buy young….develop….sell on…..it’s all great and noble…and admirable and to the pseudo byres road hillhead social climber type fan, it’s the only way at the moment…….articulate reasoning etc etc…

But see watching it from the stands year in year out.

    It’s bloody murder.

  24. Just over an hour before our competitive season starts and wondering what people are realistically hoping for in 2014/15? No doubt there’ll be mentions of The Treble, indeed I might have made some reference to that early morning?or there’ll be those that might suggest that a successful season would be the league and 1 domestic cup – and then go ballistic when we fail to win the other cup ;-)

My own wish is that, much more often than not, I am entertained. There will be times when I hope we play a little cagey, or perhaps get a lead and then defend it. But hopefully in most domestic games and in the early European ones it’ll be pretty attack minded, fast flowing and with imagination.

80 minutes till the first test.

  25. Evening all

    Hope all are well

Just made the mistake of reading the comments made in reply to Roy Greenslade’s article in the Guardian about the online ‘criticism’ of Angela Haggerty following her appearance on the Scotland 2014 programme after Rangers’ ‘Victory’ in the FTT

Very, very few valid points made about what Ms Haggerty said – though that was not what the article was about- and not one condemning the tone and personal attacks on her presumed religious and political beliefs and ( bizarrely) her physical appearance.

I am really fed up with all of this now. I do not think all Rangers fans share the views of those who criticised Ms Haggerty on Follow! Follow ! or on the Guardian website, I do not think that all Rangers’ fans political and social views are identical to those of the Ku Klux Klan or any other hate based grouping any more than I think that all Celtic fans share my views on race, religious education and practice, sexuality, the Scottish Independence debate or whether it’s rolls on sausage or rolls and sausage. But I have yet to read a single Rangers fan on an open public forum express any regret for the way their club sought to avoid it’s employees paying the full amount of taxation – these same sanctimonious hypocrites who hyperventilate when Jimmy Carr or any other B List celeb takes steps to avoid- or ever accept that they , the Rangers club -as was and is from all officials prior to the arrival of Craig Whyte as well as the support itself- is in anyway responsible for it’s undoubted demise.

I am sorry to bring this up on the evening that Celtic plays its first game of the season and with an intriguing new management set-up but I find myself looking forward to this and even more so the coming seasons which will follow it with a genuine sense of dread.
