Charlatan government opens pubs and shuts stadiums

377

I was delighted to read the Scottish Government’s clinical director, Jason Leitch, say there are strong advocates from within the Government that football fans will at one point be encouraged to leave pubs when watching games and instead attend in socially distanced numbers at outdoor stadiums.

It will not apparently happen next month, but there may be a trial when the national flags can fly when Scotland team plays in September.

You and I can only wonder when the Government’s scientists will find evidence that an easily policed outdoor arena will become as safe from Covid-19 as thousands of indoor pubs across Scotland.

Pubs, with their drinking, exchange of money, regular toilet use and the legendary increase in judgement that comes after alcohol is consumed, are clearly the safest places to watch football.  If this was not the case, your government would stop fans gathering in them to cheer on their teams and celebrate goals.

And remember, to make watching football in pubs extra safe, the government decided you do not need to wear masks when inside a pub.  Yes, masks are important, but only in shops, if you go to a pub this weekend to watch football, none of those shouting and celebrating will be wearing a mask.

By contrast, football stadiums, with their designated and easily dispersed seating, blanket CCTV monitored from dedicated police facilities, all that outdoor air and with masks used by everyone in a spectator area, are clearly more dangerous to public health than gatherings in pubs.

They would not be able to sell alcohol at football stadiums, so unlike pubs, would need to rely on the sober judgement of spectators to ensure safety procedures were respected.  And I don’t need to tell you how ineffective sober judgement is compared to how easily drunk people find following rules.

To suggest that it is worse (as I stupidly thought) for public health to gather in pubs to watch games this weekend, instead of socially distances in stadiums, is ridiculous.  If this was not the case, what would it say about your governments regard for you or your health?

This is typical of recent politicians’ involvement in football.  Not content will kettling fans, or trying to make political dissent illegal, they are happy to throw the masses they pretend to care about together in pubs at greater risk to public health, rather than actually listen to reason from outside their logic-defying bubble.  Whenever I see these clowns I think of thought-control charlatans.  This is a a farce, the Government know it, football knows it and we all know it.  Those not prepared to admit it should consider how much thought control they are already under.

  3. Thanks for the respectful replies last night. Good to be that way in discussing this.

A few folk asked about mask wearing in pubs etc.

Of course I know you cannot drink or eat when wearing a mask. I am often told by mrs m I am stupid but I am not that stupid.

My point is simple. Why do we have to wear them when distanced in shops and not when in pubs if the objective is health. It makes no sense.

If we can’t go to a shop without a mask then why is it safe to go to a pub without one.

It’s a simple point from someone who makes a living from both pubs and shops.

Why is it ok to go to pubs in Yorkshire or even coffee shops but not to friends or families houses.

    Strange / No logic.

I am the eternal optimist and knowing how up to date Paul67’s records are , maybe he still has SOT’s old e-mail address. I’m sure the address he has for me will be well out of date considering I’ve been on this site from almost the beginning.. So, here’s hoping,eh.

  9. The nerves are starting to set in for me on the eve of the season.

Here’s something to bear in mind. If you look at the Zombies average points per game, they were headed for an 87 point season. That was a proper title challenge.

Last season we raised the bar so high. We only lost 10 points in 30 games. Do we have to raise it higher again?

Pleased to hear all is well with you, and I trust you enjoyed the Eden Mill derby last weekend.

To address your point on restrictions and contradictions; It’s about the sum of risks from all permitted activities. We can’t have it all, and probably won’t have it all for a considerable period of time.

If we close the pubs and restaurants we probably wouldn’t need masks in shops and trains. If we open football stadiums we’ll need to increase restrictions elsewhere to compensate.

The limits are set by how many cases you are prepared to tolerate. In Scotland the objective is near zero, and the limit appears to be around 10 new cases per million per day. If we can maintain prevalence below that level, we’ll be able to open up more (which is happening).

In England they have taken a different view and are prepared to accept considerably greater numbers of new infections – prevalence is x5 that in Scotland last week, with x40 the point at which they reintroduce restrictions.

The approaches are distinct. In England they’re running as hard as they can then closing down areas when it gets too hot. In Scotland, the hope is that by keeping community transmission low, there will be no need to lockdown again.

It’s all theoretical, modelled, predicted. It’s not known, or proven. It’s trial and error based on evidence from different experiences around the world, assumptions on people’s behaviour and a dollop of hope and prayer. The outcomes of course are hard, measurable and inevitably tragic.

Time will tell which approach is best, but the human costs seem considerably greater atm down south. I suppose it comes down to how many lives you’re prepared to risk in order that you can do your thing(s) of choice.

  14. Burnley78,

Regarding face masks in shops and not in pubs. In shops you tend to be ambulant whilst in a pub, if done properly, you should be seated at a socially distanced table and served there. The only times you should move are on entrance, exit and for a toilet break, hopefully whilst wearing a mask when making these manoeuvres.

“BERN (Reuters) – Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has called for his successor, Gianni Infantino, to be suspended by the global soccer body after criminal proceedings were opened against Infantino in Switzerland.

Swiss authorities said on Thursday that proceedings had been launched against the current FIFA boss by a special prosecutor looking into meetings he had with Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber. Lauber and Infantino have denied wrongdoing.

“For me, the situation is clear, that the FIFA ethics committee has to open a case against Mr Infantino and so it has to suspend him,” Blatter said in a statement to Reuters.

Blatter himself was suspended and later banned by FIFA’s ethics committee after he became the subject of criminal proceedings in Switzerland in 2015. The investigation is still ongoing and Blatter, who has denied wrongdoing, has not been charged.”

We have fans who live or in some cases work in Greater Manchester, East Lancashire and parts of West Yorkshire.yet Paul67 would be prepared to take a risk of having fans from these areas travel to Scotland to watch Celtic play as we can accommodate social distancing at Celtic Park. If they then happen to go a pub or restaurant or petrol station etc then that isn’t really any of Celtics concern. Really???

I suggest Paul67 contact Boris and Cummings he seems like their kind of guy.

  20. Maybe just me,but every time I looked at that Tory Trumpet,Jackson Carlaw I wanted to smash his Masonic looking face in.Everything about him, screamed Mason.

    ———————————————

    That’s just mad rhetoric altogether.

Paul 67 has just asked that stadiums can be opened up with required sanitation and social distancing efforts.

He has not called for our English or Irish or Scottish supporters to go to restaurants or pubs or garages whilst here. If they do so they do of their own accord as they have the option of filling up before they go and eating and drinking home made or bought food and drink.

And finally, instead of travelling up the road to CP in an allowed social bubble, their alternative Saturday occupation may very well be visiting a pub or restaurant or garage locally.

Now I hope you were not one of the McGlashans down protesting on the A74 at Gretna, as the objection then sounds more to be about thae English coming up here and spreading their germs than it is about too fast a release of lockdown restrictions.

Now- that’s the kind of syllogistic thinking that Dom Cummings has mastered

  24. I’m getting a wee bit nervous as well with 10 in a row upping the normal ante.

It would be lovely the Sheep gave the Huns a kick in the ass & when these things do happen, they are a welcome bonus.

As ever Celtic can’t control what’s happening elsewhere, so I’m trying not to think too far ahead & just focus on the Accies game.

Getting through that with a decent win is my simple wish for this weekend.
