Charlie is back, did he ever go away?

673

So Charlie’s back.  Did he ever really go away? I suspect not.  Sevco Scotland/The Rangers FC/Rangers International is Charles Green’s project.  He was the guy who picked the pieces up from the Rangers liquidator.

He was the guy, through liberal use of words like ‘bigotry’, ‘No surrender’ and ‘Dallas Cowboys’ managed to convince thousands of people to buy into a version of reality which convinced them to spend money.

He cut a deal with the compliant Ally McCoist to shift tickets in 2012, then did the same with Walter Smith in 2013, and co-opted a variety of flunkies to the cause along the way.  The £22m raised at an IPO was down to him.  No one else would have been able to achieve the latter feat, and he is needed again.

The move only appears audacious to those who have not been paying attention.  When Green bought Rangers assets two years ago, the game was up.  Those assets would be bled green, white and gold in order to provide as large a return on investment as possible.  Nothing has changed.

What is needed at Ibrox right now is someone to pitch up saying, “Bigotry, No surrender, forget what I said earlier, it’s the same club, now buy your ticket, you tell them Ally/Walter/whoever next”.  Charlie is perfect for this job.

The reality that existed pre-2012 is gone.  That club’s assets were bought from a liquidator and are now masquerading around the lower leagues of Scottish football.  Those who stepped forward, paid their money, and in doing so, actually gave thousands of people a club to support, are in charge – as is their right.

This is not a good thing if you have an affinity with that club, but it’s better than having Ibrox “razed to the ground” (remember Bomber Brown’s warning), so no matter what fans think of Charles Green, it’s time to accept his reality: Rangers were liquidated, fans were not organised, wealthy fans declined to step forward, the assets were bought by people who WILL make a financial return and Charles Green is one of the few people with an idea of how to deliver this.

    Good summary.

Presume if they do a sale/lease back of Murray Park that the monies they receive will immediately be siphoned out. Otherwise why use it to keet the club limping on as they are burning up cash. It only makes sense it these assets are sold for an immediate profit and not to be used as working capital.

Read this in the FT but this can’t be right….

“Richard Bellingham, who is leading the research at the University of Strathclyde’s Institute for Future Cities, has found that men are more likely to commit domestic violence on a night when the city’s Celtic football club has played. “The aim is to move beyond historical correlation and towards prediction,” he says.”

    ……………………..

Bellingham needs to do more research. The prediction matrix would benefit if he could correlate not just when a particular team were playing, but whether that team won or lost.

  6. Periodically there appears a bone of contention about our Academy and how we are not producing enough talent, with that in mind I decided to review the rosters for the 2007 Under 20 World Cup which was held in Canada as I had a minor role in this event.

The tournament was won by Argentina who defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 in the final with goals from “Kun” and Zarate (now plying his trade with West Ham). Sergio “Kun” Agüero won the Golden Shoe and was also voted the best player of the tourney.

Of the losing Czech side I didn’t recognize any of their players having made an impact with big sides since then.

Interestingly enough Joey Altodore’s US side beat a Luis Suarez led Uruguay 2-1 AET

The all-star team included Sergio Romero, Gerald Pique, “Kun” and Adrian Lopez. The rest didn’t really aspire to much including the “New Pele” Freddy Adu.

There were others in the tournament such as Fábio Coentrão, Alexis Sanchez, David Luiz, Willian and Jo. As well as Davy Ki and our own big Efe who have went onto decent careers but the likes of Mexico’s Giovanni Dos Santos and Carlos Vela have flattered to deceive.

Of the Scotland squad only Steven Fletcher, Graham Dorrans and Robert Snodgrass have made a name for themselves and all 3 down south, Mark Reynolds and Andrew Considine have to a lesser extent done well north of the border.

Oh I forgot to mention the greatest left back in the world and worth zillions was also there as a jambo player.

Of the Celtic contingent including captain Scott Cuthbert and Scott Fox neither of whom played a first team game for us while Michael McGlinchey with 1 start and St Pat’s FP Ryan Conroy had 2, although the latter has done well up at Dens Park.

Out of that squad I would only have Snodgress at CP.

At the end of the day as far as kids are concerned it’s a lottery. The majority of the finest Under 20’s at that time didn’t aspire to much although in all fairness both Piquet (with Manure at the time) and Juan Mata have WC and Euro winning badges.

I also had the opportunity to attend a coaching session with the Toronto FC Academy last month which was sponsored by Tim Hortons.

TFC have invested $17.5m in this area with teams ranging from Under 12 to Under 18 and also spent $25m on a new training complex although this is called the KIA Training Ground after their main sponsor.

They are being bankrolled by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. who owns them as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Marlies (AHL) and the Toronto Raptors (NBA). They also own the Air Canada Centre a prime venue for touring artists and bands.

They have 4 American coaches 2 of which have spent time in Europe and are investing a lot of money in an effort to not only improve the side but also the national squad. It seems that this is the only way to go. It’s worth noting here that 2 of their academy grads are now with QPR.

It was specifically in relation to Iraq.

A state headed by a man we placed and supported as a bulwark against Sh’ite Isalm.

Iraq was a despotic state but it was more secular than Islamist, just like Syria.

The reasons for invading Iraq and the distortions Blair went through to get there had more to do with oil than religion or the War against Terror , a war they helped to manufacture.

    SFTB – 100% agree.

The dictators such as Hussein and Gaddafi were necessary to keep a lid on the Islamists.

    Great value for money.

The playing surface is covered by a wooden floor and the you cannot see the seating in the South Stand for scaffolding from floor to roof.

Outside the ground looks like a builders yard and we had a bit of a detour from Celtic Way to the restaurant.

I asked on here about dress code, so went along suited and booted.

Jeans and T-shirt were acceptable, although we were told you need a tie on matchdays.

Excellent analysis re U20s. Difficult to predict who will succeed at professional level. Also makes me wonder if while adopting these type of systems we are missing out on potential players elsewhere, players outwith youth, academy and development teams.

  26. 16 roads

The war was provoked by our unjustified reasons for invading Iraq on the second occasion. That is why Blair and Bush are being castigated as War Criminals.

If we were declaring war on the Caliphate tendency, we would have invaded Iran and Saudi Arabia.

However, I find it hard to distinguish which religion, among the many elements there are, which is most committed to peace and most opposed to war. Every religion has made a commitment to proselytise and conquer others. The methods have been varied from the physically cruel to the financially cruel. Even the Quakers were implicated in atrocities in America.

I don’t know which religion (and I include Communism in that) has the highest body count over history or even, in the past 50 years?
