Christie reward, don’t make eye contact

467

Brendan Rodgers would be happy to have given pretty much his entire first team squad a run-out yesterday. I’d expect a similar usage of the squad in Ljubljana on Wednesday but Saturday’s game against Maribor.

There’s seldom anything more than fitness to take from these games but when a young player scored what proves to be a winner, it’s likely to matter more. Ryan Christie looked stressed at the end of last season when five Celtic players scored before he – when playing as striker – got on the scoresheet. Yesterday’s win against Sturm Graz will count for Ryan.

So Bayer Leverkusen are after Efe Ambrose. Not surprised at that one. Surprise isn’t an appropriate word, not at all. Everyone just look at your shoes, don’t make eye contact, poker faces, please.

  1. Struggle wading through the BREXIT related posts. Unfortunately the tone drops to insulting at times.

As a “foreigner” I don’t think I’m entitled to express an opinion on exiting the EU.

Howevva, nod to Kojo, I was a firm believer in our initial entry to the Common Market.

I thought it was a good stimulus to firms across Europe removing trading barriers, encouraging investment, increasing employment and raising awareness of our European partners.

Howevva, nod again, it appears the organization has mushroomed to usurp many of the duties of local legislators.

Many people are unhappy with this, and personally it was one of the reasons I was in favour independence for Scotland.

Still on this day, America’s birthday, I will leave the “Brits” to debate the rights and wrongs.

In the meantime I will revel in a Scotsman’s display on Center Court, where he has taken a two set lead against the Antipodean.

‘GG I wonder how many Witherspoons here are seizing an opportunity to celebrate the 4th and sell more beer with a doffed cap to a historical Scot

  3. I would rather have Kolo Toure for a season than anyone who would rather whore themselfs in the epl.

At least players like him will help bring on the weans.

In the meantime we can go about finding players who want to play for Celtic.

    Joined the Conservative Party.

Quit the Conservative Party in the early 20s.

Flounced for ideological reasons from the Labour Party and created The New Party .

The New Party didn’t win much electoral support and in consequence he founded the British Union of Fascists in 1932.

The BUF didn’t contest the 1935 Election . Mosley feared a doing at the ballot box and felt it better to concentrate on fascist street action against his political enemies.

the english don’t have a folk memory of civil war in their psyche like the irish and scots will have an understanding of non class based divisions but thy’re sure as heck getting to know the division now – so quick and sudden – their second civil war starts now

An Tearmann, sorry for my late reply to your earlier post about the currants being referred as huns.

I can only go on what my dad told me about the origin of using that term for the quintessentially British now defunct club and their fans.

    His explanation sounded plausible.

As I explained in my last post about this subject, a Killie fan who is a mutual friend of Jimmynotpaul and myself, referred to the deid club as the Boche, the French term for the Germans during World War 1.

You never know the real truth but Skidelsky – Oswald’s biographer – said Mosely was exasperated about Labour’s inaction in the face of unemployment. He invited Nye Bevan and John Wheatley on board for his New Party but they both declined . Personally, I think he was besotted by the notion of himself as an all-powerful leader figure.

He’s not the only one who swung from left to right or vice-versa. Mussolini – an anarchist’s son – edited an extreme left publication before the First World War and Goebbels – until the late ’20s – urged the Nazis to throw in their lot with the German Communist Party.

King George V and Queen Mary attended Mosely’s wedding in 1920, it was to Lady Curzon mind you. Was also a member of the National Executive Council of the Labour Party from 1927. Made Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster by Ramsay Macdonald in 1929 with a remit to tackle the unemployment problem. More of a Keynesian than Macdonald , leaves Labour and forms his own New Party. Ramsay Macdonald forms a new government, a National Government, in league with the Tories and leads Great Britain into the Depression. Labour not back in government till 1945.

When was this Scottish civil war? I missed that one. And you missed out the seventeenth century English civil war which had a profound influence on English socialists like Orwell.

  15. JAMES FORREST…

A good read, surely this be covered up.

I’ve not been to Ipox for a few years but noticed how run down the broomloan stand was looking (well named) the toilets were a disgrace and the paintwork was peeling of the walls.

Obviously thats just the cosmetic side of a rather more serious problem, which if not addressed could be fatal.

Passed your link about, even to a few currants. HH

  16. Some amount of guff and revisionism on here about Efe.

A disaster of a player who cost us dear in numerous matches. He should have been shown the door years ago and the fact that Brendan rodgers is ensuring he is one of the first to be binned is further proof we now have the right man at the helm.

  17. Was Charlotte Fakes a false flag operation by the Glib And Shameless Liar?

That seems to be what The JohnJames guy is suggesting.

  18. The problem with Efe, and let me say I believe that he is a super-fit athlete, who gives his all when selected, is not the number of actual mistakes he has made, but the fact that when he is in the team, we all expect a costly error to be made.

Now if we in the stands are acutely aware of this, then so must his team-mates on the field of play.

We are only ever as strong as our weakest link and unfortunately that is more often than not, Efe when he is playing, either by an unforced error, or, perhaps by the psychological he has on his fellow defenders.

If he goes, I wish him and his family well in the future.

  20. Just watching discussion on BBC1 – question: Is Scotland in a better economic position to separate from the UK than in 2014.

Look we know that all the economic projections in the ‘thick’ White Paper were totally bogus – since then the ‘black gold’ of the North Sea Oil & Gas sector has all but disappeared.

We have a £15billion defecit funded by the Barnett formula – we are out of Europe and yet want to sever ties with our most important market in UK and contemplate the posibility of having to invent our own currency and Central Bank until such times as we can get back into Europe and adopt the Euro.

We will then be subject to Greece-like austerity until we get our debt ratio down from 10%+ to EU 3%. as required by Euro Zone.

In a better position than 2014? – aye right – to commit economic suicide.
