Climax heads for decade-old rivalry

140

It’s favourites win the Scottish Cup semi-finals, the League and Cup climaxes will be a match-off between two clubs who have competed for a decade for Scotland’s top prizes.

I wish I could tell you I’m confident.  Our chances depend on a change of fortune and form. The biggest positive is that despite such an extended period of poor performances, we’re still in the hunt and have every chance of making this a memorable season.

If any domestic opponent is a “rival” we’ve fallen even further than I thought…..

  2. I’m equally uncertain.

    Re the article, I’d change

“…..despite such an extended period of poor performances….”

    to

“…..despite such an extended period of poor planning, resulting in poor performances..”

It’s taken us a few years to regress to our current level.

Tell me if CCV, McGregor and Hatate return after the international break and I will tell you who wins a double.

  4. Ad another thing……

‘It’s favourites win the Scottish Cup semi-finals,…..etc’

Does anybody on here understand what that sentence actually means?

  5. P67

If you mean what you say when you wrote that we have “every chance” why would you not be confident?

And if you are, then why can’t you tell us that?

“I wish I could tell you I’m confident” – you can – just say it :)

    Hmmm

    CognitiveDissonanceCSC

Me personally, I am more hopeful than confident but I have felt the same under Strachan and others and some of the victories felt better despite the turgid displays that littered past seasons.

  6. Rodger’s needs to give a run in the team to Nawrocki when his fitness returns same for Holm and Lagerbiele ,

  7. Paul writes – “I wish I could tell you I’m confident. Our chances depend on a change of fortune and form. The biggest positive is that despite such an extended period of poor performances, we’re still in the hunt and have every chance of making this a memorable season.”

    ————————————–

Some crumbs of comfort – being in our present position, semi-finalists and second in the league table, means we are very much ‘in the hunt’. However there can be no real confidence based on our injury-list, recruiment and recent lack-lustre performances.

The strange thing is that on the CQN forum if one does not express utter belief that “we are gonnae dae it”, even though shortcomings are staring us in the face, you are branded a lesser Celtic supporter and/or a hun in disguise.

Realism is not defeatism – we have had a full dose of realism served-up over the last five plus months and our current ‘exalted’ position is only due to being the second-best of a bad lot in Scotland – of course as we all know, in this perennial two-horse race that we participate in, second means last.

    Celtic Mac – it’s a typo.

    Insert “If the…..”.

    It’s not that difficult.

    Possibly bizarrely ….

I felt better about our form trajectory after our Tynecastle defeat last weekend than I did at full time on Sunday.

I’m not seeing the grand design beyond ..

Get past St Johnstone by hook or crook

    Regroup/recover during international break

Get past Livingston by hook or crook

Nine game sprint featuring lots of CCV, Calum and Reo

Could just be my eyesight of course.

Our problem is that the Centre back pairing of Scales and Welsh is likely to cost us goals in each and every one of our remaining fixtures , especially with the inadequate midfield protection we witnessed on Sunday . So outscoring our opponents will probably be the only way we will end up with the league and cup . BR’s dilemma will be deciding when , if at all ,we can risk the comeback of CCV, Callum and Reo.

Before they cross the winning post of course.

    ……………..

Let me get this right….One day you seriously question any ability/luck that I may have to back Winners….and now YOU want me to tell you what Horses to back at Cheltenham ?

Do you want the ” PHANTOM” Horses that you accused me of…OR the REAL Winners ?

You will soon find out IF I back any winners at Cheltenham, AFTER the Races have been run.

Whether YOU believe or NOT IF I back in winners does not concern me for a moment.

BIG JIMMY Firstly how are u keeping,I’m putting on a Lucky 15 at Cheltenham out of the 4 of them I can’t see past Slade Steel ,have a good day and the best of luck with your horses this afternoon.

    ……………

Thanks for asking about my health…I am reasonably okay and looking forward to Cheltenham.

Whether I have a successful Cheltenham is anyones guess ?

My FIRST thought is hoping that ALL the Horses came back safe and sound over the Four Days of Racing.

Best of luck with your ” Lucky 15″ Bet….and I also think that Slade Street has a good chance, but several Horses are in with a shout in that Race. I could say the same for every Race over the Four Days, thats one of the reasons why Cheltenham is so special.

Respectfully, I don’t think searching for, and disagreeing about, the genesis of our problems adds great value at this particular point in time?

For me it’s not automatically about recruitment policy OR Brendan’s coaching capabilities.

Continuity of selection (or lack of) has killed us this season (BTW – I accept some root causes may stretch back before this season started).

If we’d had the following group available often (not always), I’m convinced we’d be clear at the top.

    Hart

    AJ, CCV, Nawrocki, Greg

    Reo, Matt, Calum,

    Daizen, Kyogo, Abada

Subs from: Bain, Holm, Yang, Palma, Lagerbielke, Welsh, Ralston, Forrest, Bernardo, Iwata, Scales
