Club 9, selling empire and Rangers European Champions 1967

628

Club 9 Sports released a priceless statement tonight indicating they are considering an investment in Rangers only as part of a consortium and will not be bidding for the club on their own.

So far, so clear.  They then entertain us with a remarkable interpretation of liquidation, saying:

“We understand that it has been strongly rumored that our group planned to “liquidate” the club. It should be made clear that any party that attempts to acquire the club, eliminate the debts, affect a turnaround, invest monies and put the club back on solid ground is in fact “saving” the club from liquidation and preserving its past and its future.

“In an asset purchase, all of the good and valuable assets (records, marks, names, trophies, players, staff, history) are preserved and separated from the bad and harmful liabilities (tax bills, bad contracts, creditors), which have put the club into administration and which act to force the entirety into liquidation.”

“Saving” the club from liquidation by putting the entirety into liquidation.  Don’t laugh, they honestly wrote this.

For the record, you can’t sell history or records.  Can you imagine?  Britain could flog off our whole empire period and maybe use the current economic crisis in Greece to buy their classical period from them. Aristotle, from Scotland, perhaps.

Personally, I would love to be the first Briton to hold aloft the European Cup, maybe Billy McNeill would sell me that record?  He’s had it for 45 years now, it can’t be worth that much to him anymore.

I wonder how much Messi would sell his record breaking Champions League history?  Barca are playing catch-up with Real Madrid in the European Champions stakes.  Instead of buying expensive footballers they could just offer Real cash for some of the trophies won during the 1950s.

David Murray should have saved himself all the trouble and just offered our old board a few million for the Lisbon history, just think:

Rangers, European Champions, 1967. Opportunity missed. Murray should have had a word with Club 9.

I’m enjoying these guys already, hope they are given the green light tomorrow.  What terrified Brian Kennedy floats my boat. They even finished off with some sweet platitudes about a “legendary fan base”.  I think we have a winner….

Just reading back through posts so still trying to catch up. It was the first I’ve heard the new stuff so I’m sure it would grow on me. I enjoyed the song about irelands freedom fighters but some were defo way leftfield for me. I suppose when they’re as successful as they have been then I have to respect their judgement, just a few strange tunes last night IMO.

Was thinking about this club 9 statement, and apologise if question has been asked or answered already.

Could Rangers(IA) set up a subsidiary company, transfer all the bad debt and liquidate that company, technically leaving Rangers free of debt and still holding their assets in player contracts IPox and Murray Park but crucially their SPL membership?

  11. My familiarisation with the term Miscegenation came last year during some research I did for a book. Even if you are well read you are unlikely to come across this concept unless you are either a scientist or a hardcore racist. Racist who believe in Miscegenation are all hypocrites. Even in the Deep South of Louisiana, the very heart of the WASP culture, white men have always gone with women of mixed races- in the early 19th C New Orleans (when Racism was at its peak) it was custom for all white “Gentleman” to have a Mulatto, or what in the Mississipi river Delta as Creole. Now these women of mixed race are amongst the most beautiful on earth and nothing could stop these young white bucks from going with these “dark skinned ones”- not even racial indoctrination.

Racism isn’t even scientific. But I think most of us know how intellectually ignorant Racism is so there is no point in going over its spurious genetic arguments.

Even the most innocent tongue in cheek joke about genetics can lead to reactionary sanctimony from people- with the threat of being dubbed a closet Eugenicist- I made this mistake a few nights ago on here by using the word “genetic” and there I was tarred with the old George Bernard Shaw brush. Some people on here are HYPER-VIGILANT to anything that might disturb their PC antenna.

Can’t say I have ever read Kojo’s stuff but there can be no defence for sincerely held Racist beliefs in this day and age or any other type of prejudice when we have access to so much information from which to enlighten ourselves.

  12. I am a very infrequent poster on CQN these days, but I nonetheless feel impelled to say something today that contradicts a number of regular posters for whom I have a high regard; some of whom I regard as friends, and all of whom I respect and like for their contributions to the CQN community.

I have read Kojo’s post of 00:34 of last night and am having difficulty in reconciling what I see with the statements that are being made about it, and him. Laying a charge of racism against someone is a grave allegation, and it should not be made lightly, or without unimpeachable evidence of its truth.

What does the post actually say?

The proposition that a society or the world as a whole might be undermined by ‘miscegenation’ (which is not pejorative per se, and simply means the existence of mixed-race relationships) is one that I find – to phrase this as mildly as I can – misguided, and rather unpleasant. However, it is not racist; separation and discrimination are not the same thing.

The reference to a ‘thoroughbred’ and a ‘plough horse’ might indicate some belief in, or desire for, a differing status between races. Possibly that was what motivated Kojo to write it. But it is only a possibility; there’s nothing intrinsically ‘better’ about one or other of these breeds (try ploughing a field using a thoroughbred!) and it might have been an ineptly-chosen example rather than a statement of racist sentiments.

Kojo has fashioned a stick for his own back with that post, and I neither condone nor support the sentiments that seem to underlie it. However, were this a court of law a charge of racism based on it could hardly stand; the fine old Scots verdict of ‘not proven’ might once again prove its worth; but no more than that.

I can’t help but feel that the distaste that many people on CQN feel for Kojo’s political and social views may have coloured in some degree their responses to his post. Perhaps those who have excoriated him feel there is a wider truth that justifies their stance – I’m conscious that I am missing context here, as I have read precious few of Kojo’s posts over the last few years, and virtually none in the last 12 months. But the comments I’ve read refer explicitly and as far as I can see exclusively to the 00:34 post, so I feel justified in responding on the same basis.

I sympathise almost exclusively with the values of those who have criticised Kojo’s post, and (unlike Kojo, it would seem) understand the sensitivity of the subject matter. Still, I take the view that some of today’s reaction is over the top, and I think CQN would be better served by people making their distaste clear and then moving on, than it is by a concerted campaign to have Kojo removed from the forum. Tolerance is usually preferable to its polar opposite; and in the absence of explicit and overt racism, I feel a tolerant (if disapproving) CQN with Kojo is better than an intolerant one without him.

I am going to be offline for much of today but will endeavour to answer in due course any points that are addressed directly to me in reply to this post. I hope I have not offended anyone or inflamed the situation further by what I’ve said, but even if I have, I still prefer to say it and take my lumps than stand by and watch what what to my eyes looks like injustice in action.
