Cough up for Killie

944

The SFA, SPL and SFL confirmed revelations yesterday that they met at Hampden on Friday evening and released a 126 word joint statement.  It claimed “all three parties have been involved in productive discussions for some time on the subject of league reconstruction”.

Be that as it may, you could put your house on the fact that there would be no talk of hastily-arranged league reconstruction in the next few weeks if there remained a possibility that SPL clubs would vote a Newco into the league at their meeting on 4 July.

Disingenuous: lacking in frankness, candour or sincerity.

There is no mention of subverting every rule in the game to ensure a team called ‘Rangers’ are positioned in as high a league system as possible.  The statement is completely disingenuous.  Having lost the battle to parachute Newco-Rangers into the SPL, Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster have redrawn the battle lines.

Celtic supporters are the great cash cow that is expected to pay for the crimes of others.  It’s up to you if you want to Cough up for Killie (etc.).

  1. I wonder if Sally will be fronting the MSM demanding to know who was at the secret meeting at Hampden.

    No? No surprises there then.

    I wonder if you had to know the secret handshake to get in.

  2. Good morning all from a gloriously bright, sunny clear skied and, at long last, June-like East Kilbride. Definitely a daz white shirt and bright green tie day for Jobo!

    Morning Folks ,

    So , was it predictable for you ?

    Most people seemed to do fairly well in the QF predicting – well done. Special well done to Jayem who scored 9.5 in this round and is now the proud (or at least i hope he is) owner of a brand new Kano bar scarf .

    Very close round with TheBlonde (again) , Joebhoy70 and Row Z among others scoring 9+ points to be in the running . I think i’ve worked it out correctly , but it’s early so if you spot a mistake let us know.

    Row Z has finally overtaken long-term leader Motherwelltim – might we see some tactical predicting coming into play as we reach the semis and final ?

    Couple of days rest before the semis but don’t forget to get your predictions in , especially if you’re in with a chance of winning our special prizes.

    ALL THE BEST TO DARREN O’DEA,HUNSKELPER

    It would have been easy for him to be bitter about leaving,but he has shown himself a better man than that.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Celtic have given me everything in life but it’s time I was moving on
    HEADING HOME … Darren O’Dea returned from Euro 2012 knowing that his days as a Celtic star are over
    Pic: INPHO/Donall Farmer
    UNLIKE his Lennoxtown locker, Darren O’Dea was emptied by Celtic long ago.
    His boots and belongings may still be at the club’s training ground, but his head has been somewhere else for years.
    Loaned to Reading, Ipswich and Leeds, then Euro 2012 in Poland as a squad member of Giovanni Trapattoni’s Ireland.
    It’s only now, though, that the 25-year-old has been hit with the reality his Hoops career is finally over and he is an unemployed footballer without a team.
    O’Dea said: “What am I going to do? Look for a club.
    “There are a few possibilities but, to be honest, I haven’t even thought about it. I’ll need to now, right enough.
    “The Euros was the only thing I was thinking about and I just left the other stuff to my agent.
    “He’s been working on things while I have been concentrating on being here in Poland with the Ireland team.
    “When I go back now, it’ll be a case of seeing where I go.
    “It’s been tough leaving Celtic because it’s a big club, but I’m ready to move on.
    “They’ve got good players now and the club is moving on — it doesn’t wait for people.
    “I thought I could have done well there, especially considering I really liked Neil Lennon as a manager. And I still do.
    “There is no bitterness or anger. Celtic have given me everything, and I don’t mean in football, I mean in life. I’m married to a Scottish girl and we have a Scottish baby. When I finish with football, I’ll live in Scotland.
    “I’ve grown up as a Celtic fan and was taught by the very best in Tommy Burns, so it’s really disappointing for me.
    “But I won’t be moping about because of it. I’ve been moving around for two years and I have got my head around it.
    “When I first went to Ipswich it was maybe a little bit of a surprise for me but, since then, I’ve just got on with it.
    “I need a club now, a stable club, where I can move my family to. My wife was six months pregnant when I moved to Ipswich, which is in the middle of nowhere compared to Glasgow.
    “At Leeds I continued to live in Glasgow and just drove up and down because my little one wasn’t really settling down there.
    “I need to move my family and get settled again, but then I’m sure my football will take care of itself.
    “I still haven’t actually cleared out my locker at Celtic. It’s like I’ve had one foot out the door for the last two years. I’ve been back for pre-season and then gone away again on loan.
    “Once I get back from the Euros, I’ll probably go back to Glasgow, see a few people and say cheerio. I have a lot of people to thank there. I want to leave in a proper way.”
    O’Dea could easily look at the state of Scottish football right now and say he’s better off out of it. But he won’t.
    The defender added: “No, I’d still say I would give a lot to play for Celtic.
    “I don’t know what is going to happen with Rangers, but there are leagues and cups to be won at Celtic — and there aren’t many places you get to do that unless you’re with one of the top three or four clubs in England.
    “I don’t think you’d ever pass up the chance to play at Celtic, but my future will be down south in England.
    “There are plenty of decent teams in the SPL and it’s not the case that I’d turn my nose up at them. But other factors come into play — money probably being one of the main ones.”
    O’Dea headed home from Euro 2012 very much looking towards the future.
    He may not have kicked a ball at the tournament but that hasn’t made him any less determined to reach a major finals again.
    He added: “Sure, it would have been great to get on the pitch at some stage.
    “I knew coming into the finals that Richard Dunne and Sean St Ledger would probably be the first-choice defenders, but you still dream.
    “Watching the games from the touchline, and seeing the class, you still learn even if you’re not playing.
    “For us it’s about qualifying for future tournaments and I hope the experience of this one will stand us all in good stead.”
    Leicester defender St Ledger — a perennial Celtic target — admits the Irish players were astonished by the way Spain thrashed them 4-0 and sent them spinning out of the tournament.
    He said: “I never expected Spain to play at that level. I don’t think anybody did.
    “I’ve seen the stats of how much possession they had against a side like Croatia and it’s just incredible.
    “We always knew we were in a difficult group. But sometimes you’ve just got to hold up your hands and say we’ve lost to three very good sides, which are all ranked in the top ten.
    “I wanted to come out here and win football matches and there’s nothing that can replace that. It’s hugely disappointing.
    “At least in the final game against Italy we had a go. We didn’t create much, but I think everybody saw the fight and the spirit in our team.”
    Ireland failed to win a point from their three games and returned home with their tails between their legs.
    But St Ledger said: “Listen, we haven’t been to a European Championship for 24 years, so excitement is always going to be there.
    “We feel like we let people down, but we all tried our hardest and it wasn’t to be.
    “There’s another campaign coming up and we will give everything to get there.
    “Hopefully the fans will cheer us in Brazil.”
    Alas, the MSM / SFA / SFL are still flogging that particular dead horse – they should really give up, it is just getting embarrassing now.
    Oanywho – where would we be without t’internet – I’ll enjoy keeping up to date with the next few installments while I’m away – good holiday reading.
    Firstly it is only recently and after solid guarantees that Ally signed up with SevCo.
    Then it is up to the management of a Company to communicate with the employees over TUPE not the other way round.
    Now Ally is a Rookie manager who had a poor First season, Football clubs are not beating a path to his door, several of the ex-players have a future at Club and International level, many have potential and should have the opportunity to develop their career appropriately.
    Last but not least Mr McCulloch, a player at the twilight of his career, has stated his wished to play for the New Club no matter which division the Club was in. Thing is he had been deperately trying to get in touch with Mr McCoist but his phone was constantly off and didn’t return his calls.
  16. Tim Malone Will Tell on
    From the articles posted on the blog, seems like the MSM are steadfastly avoiding any references to new club, different club and no history – all of which are directly attributable to the two Stevies and would seem very relevant with regards to the war of words with Green and McCoist.
    Instead, they go with the “don’t know what league they will be playing in” line.
    Some things just never change…
  17. I liked this extract from the urine stained consumer of fine turpentine:
    For if Malcom Murray does not act, then there may come a time when he will have to face the music and dance to the tune of those who will accuse him of neglecting his duties as a director.
    Aye, because the previous directors have been equally pulled up to face that same music (Paul Murray, John Greig et al, anyone?)
