CQN Magazine, Fit and Proper issue, out now!

323

With an eye on the interesting weeks and months that lie ahead, this month’s issue of CQN Magazine is titled Fit and Proper, as we investigate some of the goings-on in the game.  To give these times some perspective, we take you back to 1994, when our own club was on the verge of collapse.  It’s all there, including video of the legendary “Cambuslang is a reality”!

Celtic was rescued and rebuilt by the collective action of thousands of ordinary supporters, the active planning of a small number and the icy focus of Fergus McCann.  Fergus had his critics, and we recall some of the conflict here, but as Shakespeare said, “Cometh the hour, cometh the man”.  He was unquestionably the right man to relieve the old board of their duties.

This was an important time in our history so we’ll take any excuse to relive, recall and read over those times. Nor do we make any excuse for our alert focus on events elsewhere.

The story of other parts of Scottish football is important to us as we will have a roll in its future.  Celtic fans must be aware of the issues and be ready to voice their opinions should an opportunity come for clubs, the SPL or SFA to made a decision on how to pick up the pieces after a serious financial crisis at one or more clubs.  We cannot be asleep when the hour arrives.

There is tons more of the usual fare in the magazine, including analysis of our January signings, fans’ stories, a look back at our 65-year-old Polish heritage and some of the reasons why there may be a million football clubs in the world, but there’s only one Celtic.

Hope you enjoy it.  Thanks to everyone who has contributed or worked on it.

BT called it correct Legends in the village is your best bet.

The stewartfield is a taxi ride away and a more mixed bunch and again BT is correct in that a few guys from what i read on here watch in there.

Cousin is a ned, an ex footballer who is scraping round for a few pounds. The cub and player are well suited.

My turn for the ‘jockey club bet this week’ thinking of going for Celtic – 1 goal tonight 2/1 and more than 2.5 goals 11/10.

Anybody think it’s a bad idea?

    Happy birthday Martin 42.

Well maybe it’s the MBB way to cheer up aul’ Ally, he is looking pretty miserable these days and incidents like that sure cheered him up!

We are all set to go 4 points clear tonight bhoys!

Why would we worry about a 35 year old striker who is hardly in his prime? the striker role imo is different from centre back you need more energy and be more mobile and if possible have a turn of pace.Cousin is past his sell by date and the only thing I can see him doing is take another wage out of the poundland team bring him on.H.H

  5. Snake – like Luxcelt, I agree 100%.

Cousin is not being brought in for his goals, he is being brought in as he is a thug. How that animal escaped a red card for his assault on McManus still annoys me to this day, he also tried to take out Kennedy who came on for McManus, following instructions from the cheeky chappie.

Ironic that Hateley is bigging this up in the papers today, as you say he was another animal brought in solely to attack Celtic defenders.

One of the most pleasing things about Saturday’s win over ICT was how our players stood up for the physical battle. I think Neil and his bhoys will be well ready for Cousin.

Your point on Collum is my only concern for tonight, he was incredibly lenient to the Huns on Sunday yet waved a card whenever he could at the United players, Russell’s for shooting after being flagged offside a prime example. No coincidence he is not in La Manga, he will hope he has his part to play in the title race yet, bhoys need to be cute tonight, saty on their feet, and give him no opportunities. If we do that, we will batter them.

  6. Paul67/James Forrest,take a bow.

Read up to the Brozek piece in magazine ,fantastic.

The video of Brozek goals, also very impressive.

I don’t know why you are all laughing about Cousin other than the fact that he probably will do a runner when he sees how much he’ll get in wages a week.

If they sign him he will be given licence to assault Celtic players.

That filthy animal hospitalized McManus, drew blood from Caldwell’s head and wasn’t booked for either.

A scumbag and perfect fit for the Fat PLG’s hatchet men.

I still fume with rage at how the sinister Minister booked 9 Celtic players on a day where that animal put the Celtic captain in hospital and received no booking. He also was at the centre of a headbutt on Lee Wilkie in the other Sinister Minister game when united were cheated by his antics. in their desperation another ref will step forward – Collum being the obvious choice – and let them away with all manner of assault.

Consider his leniency on Sunday towards practically every Rangers player who tried to boot everything in tangerine off the park.

We are seeing what Rangers always do with their backs to the wall – they bring out the boot boys. Twas ever thus.

I hope he doesn’t sign or we’ll have a few more Kayal on the sideline efforts

It should be razed to the ground and started again. Or just razed to the ground, with Celtic Park or Murrayfield used for internationals/Cup Finals.

After listening to the Clyde podcast left asking myself just what punishment does honest Graham think the huns should get for using ebt’s?

He doesn’t think that relegation should follow liquidation.

He doesn’t think titles should be stripped.

He is adamant they should be punished though,so what’s it to be considering there may well be a brand new chairman and board with fresh investment nobody knows about at the moment waiting in the wings to take over post liquidation.

A new backer could heavily invest in the team possibly nullifying any points deduction any other meagre punishment.

Another brilliant leader and one which makes every CELTIC fan surely appreciate the quiet way Fergus and others saved us from a fate worse than death. Try and imagine if you can just how we would all be feeling right now with no CELTIC, imagine!Unthinkable.

One thing for sure that Fergus in his own strong quiet way pulled us out of the abyss. He was a brilliant man and the more I think about it the more certain I am that we, the fans of this fantastic club ought to do something, for the man, his memory and what he did for CELTIC. He didn’t have to you know! The world, in my opinion, is full of two kinds of people, do-ers and sayers, with the latter being in the region of 95%. Look at the politicians, jam tomorrow always. we will get things right, bla de bla de bla. Fergus did what he said he would do and look at us now.

So the time is right now for a coomerative statue or something similar be erected in honour of the great man. Sure he riled a few people but that was needed.

  17. “very important information about tynecastle tonight”

There have been some information coming my way about a possible infiltration of the Celtic section tonight by people who are not celtic supporters. These people apparently are going to cause as much trouble as they can; with the hope that the bad press reaction will be about Celtic supporters. I really don’t know how true this story is; but i would warn all our fans to be very careful. I would suggest if you have concerns about anybody; then contact the nearest Steward; or Police Officer.

As we all know we will get a very hostile reception tonight from the brethren of the east; let’s show them what a real passionate support looks and sounds like.

There are as usual serious problems surrounding Tynecastle regarding traffic and access for supporters; below is some information which you may find helpful; it came from Ronnie Hawthorn; Celtic’s Head of Operation’s; i have made him aware of the other information about potential trouble makers.

    http://www.thecsa.co.uk/showthread.php?t=531

be aware and stay safe if travelling through tonight. When you leave the ground and walk back toward the busses you have to pass under an iron bridge that the trains travel over into haymarket. This is a well known area for hearts thugs to attack Celtic fans. The police continue to do nothing about it and it’s always more dangerous in the dark. Stick together and be aware. I know the ground there well and the streets that they take to attack away fans are a maze for their escape. It’s usually worse in the dark where they can infiltrate our support in their sneaky way and slap a few fans. They are cowards. make no mistake though they are keen on inflicting pain on Celtic fans of any age. It’s the only ground in Scotland I travel to with no colours on and I can walk to the stadium. They hate us with a passion and a few goals tonight could incite them more than usual.

Keep yourself alert and stay safe.

    Dear All

Neville wrote to me to raise the issue of the tramworks on Russell Road which are restricting the access/egress route for Celtic supporters attending tomorrow nights match. I had attended a meeting last week to look at this issue and again reviewed the problem at yesterday’s operations meeting at Tynecastle. The meeting was attended by Lothian and Borders Police, Edinburgh City Council and Hearts FC. Edinburgh City Council is the lead on this matter and explained that the pedestrian corridor in Russell Road will be expanded to a minimum of 2.5 metres. The pedestrian footway will be resurfaced where necessary and additional lighting will be put in place. When I visited Russell Road yesterday, this was still to be put in place and I was advised that this will happen tomorrow and signed off by Edinburgh City Council.

While the access/egress arrangements are not ideal, there will be a stewarding / policing presence, particularly at the end of the match to manage the progress of exiting fans. I think the message to supporters attending the game should be an awareness of the situation and the need to follow directions of stewards and police particularly when leaving the stadium.

We are posting the information below, provided by Lothian and Borders Police on our website. Jeanette, I will also have the ‘fans assist’ minibus for those with walking difficulties operating. However, this will be restricted by the location of the tramworks.

I hope this is of assistance.

    Best regards

Good point, but I genuinely don’t think Elbows’ tackle was the big problem there-it was a combination of that and Beram’s foot slipping down the ball, though I defo don’t want to start that argument again!

To have sought retribution on the strength of that would have been questionable, though since it was Elbows,I’d have defended it!

Greenjedi- a bit harsh on the team.

When you look at last season and this, most of our big players last year [Izaguirre, Kayal, Commons] have barely featured for one reason or another, yet we’ve still managed put together an impressive run of results, mainly due to SuperScott and Super Sammi ;/0

correct re Baldé. (Varga as well incidentally – judging by some comments from an ex-hun player), and probably Johan, and one ot 2 others as well.

Thing is, that is because Baldé was a defender who simply went through whatever opposition was in the way when he needed to win the ball. We need to bear that in mind with selection when facing the likes ofCousin again, and pick our players accordingly. We have no baldé, but can pick the closest we have in terms of physicality. (this doesn’t just apply to cousin… lafferty, mcculloch etc should be treated the same).

A bit late in catching up with your Cronin posting.

Given that he was not born until 1896, he would have had a wee bit of difficulty writing letters of encouragement to Celtic’s founders.

As I understand it, part of his childhood was spent in Dumbarton at his maternal grandmother’s house in Round Riding Road, Dumbarton. I believe that the house in question is the red sandstone semi villa near Miller Street, the entrance to the old Boghead.

This has given rise to the idea that Hatter’s Castle was situated at the Junction of Round Riding Road and Netherbog.

I believe that his other grandparents lived in Alexander St. near the Fountain.

Doesn’t really matter who is right or wrong,, his books make good reading.

If you are unaware of the area follow the instructions of the police there should be street parking near Murrayfield.

Hearts team news: Templeton said on twitter he’s out, their first-choice keeper is dropped, and Ian Black is suspended.

……..you forgot to say they are sh*te.

Sutton is on loan in Australia too. Crazy decision. Looked a very good player for Hearts when I have saw him play. Put Brown on Rudi Skacel and they have very little threat.

We should not be afraid of them or of him but we play in Scotland, we have seen the refereeing and we know that creature will be allowed to assault Celtic players and get away with it. It is their raison d’etre and they have carte blanche to do so.

We should be worried by this in that sense.

I agree that Neil Lennon is not daft and a big physical side will need to be played tonight as it was on Saturday and if Cousin (who may head for the hills when he sees the money he’ll get offered) is leading their line with scumbag Lafferty (who tries to take off player’s legs and gets only yellow) and thug Healy (ditto) we’ll need players who are capable of standing up to their attempts to intimidate us.

Rogne, Big Dan, Charlie and Victor Wanyama are more than capable of dealing with these animals. Caldwell and McManus were not and nor is Loovens and nor might Kelvin Wilson be based on the last time we saw him at the Deathstar. Gordon Strachan’s team were too soft in many ways if you were being unkind and too nice if you are being kind. They were a team of lightweight footballers – unsurprising really as the wee man was a slight technical player himself and there is nothing wrong with that but when you play against hammer throwing anti-football you must have players who can give it back to them in spades and look them in they eye when necessary.

Neil’s team has characters like that in midfield and in defense so I am not concerned in that way.

We’ve seen the lengths McCoist and is filthy team have gone to and will go to to win – apart from the diving and the feigning of injury they attempt to take the legs off of good players – Mackay-Stevens, Eremenko, Kayal to name but 3 and in each case we’ve seen referees who let these things go unpunished – funnily enough I think in each case it was Collum who was referee. Add in the instructions from the bench to do in Celtic players and all the winking and you’ll get my drift.

It illustrates perfectly their desperation and they will not relinquish this league without employing all the dark arts at their disposal. Fat Sally may be bereft of tactics but like the Cardigan he has a limited repertoire –

Every player behind the ball when the opposition have it

Kick hell out of the most talented players in the footballing side’s team

    feign injury

    dive in the box

    surround the ref

    Put pressure on the defenders

    throw in the high ball

    and repeat

Cardigan and FPLG – zero difference in approach.

Neil has seen this and knows how to counteract it but never underestimate the level of leniency from the MIB towards them on 99% of occasions.

Their sheer level of affront at getting their players banned this season for cheating and thuggery displays their mentality perfectly and they believe, nay KNOW they can push the envelope much more than any other side in the country in every game – retrospective punishment is bad but it still doesn’t happen to them when it matters – during the match. Yes they are bottom of the disciplinary table and we a re top but they’d be much further out there if the laws of the game were applied properly to them and more consistently.

I don’t think so. I was including last seasons team in the over confidence stakes.

We have all seen the team struggle to get out of first gear (even during this winning streak) due to the fact that they feel they are going to win easily. Look at the game against St Mirren a few weeks ago. I don’t know if its because its such a young team that doesn’t have an old head to lead them or what but it happens way to often
