Dangers of a league without whipping boys

792

At 1:45 yesterday afternoon the prospects of Celtic stretching their lead at the top of the table by the end of the day appeared slight.  The tide has turned in Celtic’s favour in recent weeks but leagues are hard to win and we need only think back to how many chances St Mirren peppered Fraser Forster’s goal with to appreciate the difference between winning games and dropping points.

Teams in the SPL are well organised, even eighth place St Mirren, who are on a run of poor form but apart from a couple of lapses defended well, created more chances than Celtic and played with adventure and confidence.

Celtic are the best team in the league but there will not be a single game before the end of the season in which they will be able to take anything for granted.  The result from yesterday we should pay most attention to is bottom of the league Dunfermline’s 0-3 win at Kilmarnock.  This is a league without whipping boys.

    When Leicester made an enquiry in the summer, they were quoted a weekly wage of £30k…NET

    God only knows what his agent is asking from any EPL club

    Between the wage demands + wanting a transfer fee upfront (unheard of in the game), TMBB is in soapy bubble if no funds are received before the window closes

  2. Bjmac I would also tell someone else in the workplace yer thoughts incase he starts his p$$h with you.

  3. Ah so Jabba is first with the tale of doom.

    Quelle Surprise.

    In that long doom laden article there is not a single mention of WHY this is happening.

    It is happening because RANGERS CHEATED. Let us not beat around the bush like everyone else wants to. They cheated and should be punished appropriately as cheats should. If players take illegal drugs they are banned. Sometimes for life. If referee’s are bribed the Police are involved. Why is this cheating any different at all? They knowingly, and with forethought, did this.

    Only in Scotland would there be a debate around whether cheaters should prosper or not.

  4. Morning CQNer’s.

    I hope the day that I put CQN on the computer and, read of all the different posts about the ‘actual’ demise of der-hun is not too far off.

    But, I still can’t get my head around, the secret handshake not pulling one final trick out of the bag to save thems!

    I’ll believe it when I see all the corks popping on the ole-CQN.

    Hurry up HMRC for feck sake.

    Our players of ten years ago would of finished off st mirren by half time

    ST who prefers to see our Celtic move forward than talk about Huns going in reverse :)

    You’ve summed it up nicely: this mind-numbing effort across the Scottish MSM to lay the ground for shoo-ing the newco Stickies straight back in to the SPL: (by accident amongst some, but design by others) there still seems to be no recognition of the fact the the soon-to-be historic RFC has been pockling its merry way for the last decade or so.

    One need only consider how these same paradigms of journalistic virtue would be reporting on this had the perpetrators been of any other hue …

    I would have a quiet word.

    Would also consider making a note of the incident and your conversation with him.

    If he apologised profusely and is genuine than matter ended.

    If he does not see what he has done wrong, then consider further action.

    In either case consider following up with an email.to him,.so that he knows you have a record of the issue.

    Your being over sensitive. They are the people and you should be grateful you were afforded your hieghty position given the school you went to. Afterall this is Scotland where racism towards Catholic and Irish communities is wholly acceptable within the laws and supported by the government of the country.

  11. BJMac- take him aside, and in a quiet, professional way let him know you found it completely unacceptable, and if there’s a repeat you will be taking it to the MD.

    Let me know if this doesn’t work, and I’ll send round the musk oxettes.

  12. The best/worst bit of Traynor’s nonsense is the bit about how the whole game in Scotland would suffer.

    Well let me tell you, the current model is killing it so a change is required.

    If they remain in the SPL by the inevitable skullduggery that will and is going on judging by the lobbyists in the press with their penalties and financial austerity Celtic fans are going to turn up in droves to see another potential 9iar and that frightens the hacks to death.

    The other sides when faced with the chance to actually win something and moreover beat Rangers with regularity WILL turn out as well. Does anyone other than the odious Hugh Keevins and his ilk actually believe that fans of Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts and Dundee United won’t turn out in cup games especially if they feel they have a chance of winning?

    Celtic will plod along just fine and look to develop young talent and the other clubs will get back to that just as in the 1980’s and they style of football will hopefully change from anti-football thuggery (by getting rid of all the pupils of Walter, Brown, Jeffries etc etc) and back to on the deck attacking, passing football which guys like Danny Lennon and Kenny Shiels are trying to forge forward with which is the right way to play the game, not stopping the opposition and hoping to score on the break.

    Rangers will have to take their medicine and if they have the loyal fans they think they have they’ll cough up the cash Celtic fans did in the 1990s for the future of the club.

    We the fans care about how the WHOLE of Scottish football ends up. The hacks and all the apologists for tax avoidance only care about Rangers because in their mind Rangers is Scottish football. Well it isn’t and they’d better get used to watching their favourites struggle just as Celtic had to in the 1990s but with one crucial difference – Celtic were hamstrung by mismanagement while our biggest rivals were allowed to spend money on the never never. This time Celtic can win the titles, lord it over them while paying our taxes and operating within our means.

    The fear is hoaching so it is.

    From wikipedia….

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    An early version of the poem includes four lines which were deleted at the request of one of Burns’ friends—a judge.[2] The poem originally contained the lines:
    Three lawyers’ tongues, turn’d inside out,
    Wi’ lies seam’d like a beggar’s clout;
    Three priests’ hearts, rotten black as muck,
    Lay stinking, vile in every neuk.
    A handwritten note on the manuscript[citation needed] written by Judge Alexander Fraser Tytler, reads “Burns left out these four lines at my desire, as being incongruous with the other circumstances of pure horror.” Burns had the lines removed from later editions. It was not unknown for Burns to make changes at the request of friends.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I suspect someone is being a tad mischevous including those lines.

    “The problem Rangers have always had in this saga is this isn’t just about them.”

    It was all about them when they were cheating for years, of course.

    Horrid situation, and one that probably has no satisfactory solution. Your discretion in reacting to the situation is as important as the law which makes this behaviour clearly unlawful. Inder the Equality Act your employer is ultimately het for the behaviour of staff where a person:

    “..engages in unwanted conduct which is related to a relevant protected characteristic (in this case both Religion/Belief and Sex) and which has the purpose or the effect of:

    • violating the worker’s dignity; or

    • creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for that worker.”

    The key elements are that the behaviour is unwanted, that it relates to a protected characteristic, and it created a hostile or offensive environment.

    The Human Rights Commission provides the following example of such behaviour in their Code of Practice for Employers:

    “Male members of staff download pornographic images on to their computers in an office where a woman works. She may make a claim for harassment if she is aware that the images are being downloaded and the effect of this is to create a hostile and humiliating environment for her.

    In this situation, it is irrelevant that the male members of staff did not have the purpose of upsetting the woman, and that they merely considered the downloading of images as ‘having a laugh’.”

    This is the area of law that (in my view alone) ultimately resulted in the summary dismissal of Hugh Dallas from the SFA, despite the knowledgable and tenacious counsel he received from the tenacious and knowledgable Caroline Carr of bto. The SFA, having established to their satisfaction that the errant email was distributed by Dallas, had no alternative but to act in ensuring that the employment environment was free from such unwanted and offensive behaviour. They had no choice. Failure to act as they did would have exposed them to all manner of risks.

    I refer back to what I said at the outset though: Your discretion in dealing with the matter is central to an outcome that is satisfactory for you. You are within your rights to react as you see fit, but some actions will be more effective than others.

    Maybe suggest an email to your errant colleague, cc the MD, politely pointing out that he may not be aware that the behaviour is now unlawful, and in addition to making unknown members of staff uncomfortable, it also exposes the company to a liability should unknown persons claim harassment.

    In this manner, you flag up to your employer formally that there is behaviour in his place of work that he needs to address to remain onside with the new law, you pull up your junior colleague for a transgression in a polite but clear manner, and you get to be a totally smarmy git without getting procedural.

    Hope that helps.
