Dangers of a league without whipping boys

792

At 1:45 yesterday afternoon the prospects of Celtic stretching their lead at the top of the table by the end of the day appeared slight.  The tide has turned in Celtic’s favour in recent weeks but leagues are hard to win and we need only think back to how many chances St Mirren peppered Fraser Forster’s goal with to appreciate the difference between winning games and dropping points.

Teams in the SPL are well organised, even eighth place St Mirren, who are on a run of poor form but apart from a couple of lapses defended well, created more chances than Celtic and played with adventure and confidence.

Celtic are the best team in the league but there will not be a single game before the end of the season in which they will be able to take anything for granted.  The result from yesterday we should pay most attention to is bottom of the league Dunfermline’s 0-3 win at Kilmarnock.  This is a league without whipping boys.

Cold and wet -way down south .

    Saturday ?

Dreadful for 60 minutes. Way too square. . Kriss Commons changed the shape and the game.

Frazer Forster kept us in the game.

Good pass .good goal from Brown but he simply doesn’t float my boat.

The Officials were dreadful . One of the linesmen was cosmically bad. Imrie allowed to foul with impunity. Stonewall penalty denied. I think Rogne’s” goal” was offside.

Another victory . Another 3 points. Another clean sheet.

    Bjmac,

The next time he’s in the office, sit with a puzzled face for ten minutes, then start laughing out loud uncontrollably.

Now you’ve got the attention of everybody in the office say “I get the joke now, you’re a bigot that finds child abuse funny”.

Then turn back to your desk to work as if nothing has happened.

  3. Bjmac , you say its a small company, this dick knows you are a tim, do you think the joke was for your

Heard from a follower of the dark side this morning that he was told that they have definitely lost the tax case and HMRC are wanting their full squids. Family friend is a high up in HMRC and worked on the case and told him they have definitely lost and official announcement will be in next 4-6 weeks.

How true this is I don’t know, they guy is a rather peculiar H*n in that he’s honest and pretty decent, but he is pretty devastated this morning and his face is tripping him big style :)

The media have colluded in this fraud. They still cannot admit to the financial doing by Ragers over a decade. They turned a blind eye to this tax tribunal for months.

They welcomed the Saviour from Motherwell. They deemed him “fit and proper”.

They still do not question Ragers participation in Europe this year.

I fervently hope this stinking chrony cabal go with Ragers.

If I ever have any employment disputes, I’m coming to ask you for advice first, phenomenal!

  17. James Forrest is Lennon on

So this morning I read Phil’s latest article and there are a number of questions which arise from it, naturally.

I’ll boil the article down for thos who haven’t read it.

Rangers NewCo, because they are a new club, would not be eligible for a points deduction in the SPL.

So, what issues arise from this?

    1) Sporting integrity. No deduction for an event which takes them far beyond the boundaries of administration? And how is that fair to every club which has ever been deducted points?

    2) Can they really avoid paying HMRC whilst they a) Have the same name b) Play in the same ground c) Have the same history d) Have the same club colours? They are effectively not a different business at all then …

    3) The transfer of a license to a NewCo might be all well and good … it isn’t, of course, but leaving it aside … their argument that the ten point deduction shouldn’t apply because they are a “different entity” … take that argument to its logical conclusion. If this happens during the season how the Hell can NewCo FC argue that and actually retain ANY of its points? As a new club how can they keep a single point? Even one?

    4) If it happens during the close-season there is simply no debate that they should have to start in Division 3, as every new club would need to.

    5) He talks about the Celtic board and asks the question of what we will do. He also suggests it is time for the Celtic fans to rally to the cause of letting the board know what agreeing to this deal means.

I don’t think we NEED to do that, but we should anyway. Why do we not need to? Because if our club, which has played by the rules, and in the interests of good financial governance did not push the boat out in the last few years, allowing Der Hun to win leagues, now turns around and accepts that this strategy was wrong, that fair play didn’t matter, that good financial governance should be punished whilst cheating and doping is rewarded, they might as well chuck it.

The future of Scottish football does NOT come down to one team. Our own future does NOT come down to what happens to Rangers. I am sick of this line being put out that we “need” Rangers. It is a lie. We do not. We do not need that club to measure ourselves against. All this talk of “for the sake of competition” … both they and ourselves have had periods where there literally was no competition for years and years on end and there were no consequences for either side.

Some of the nonsense being talked by the “help Rangers out” lobby staggers me.

I would go for the passive aggressive approach if you don´t want ot make a big deal of it.

Jokingly say (in front of other colleagues) “Morning so and so, how are you today? Got any more sectarian jokes, totally inappropriate for the work place for us this morning? It’s just I have got my tape recorder ready for the tribunal.”

It’s staggering the amount of disrespect shown to the other teams in the SPL from the “rangers must stay mob”

With Rangers out of the set up another European place is up for grabs and you can’t tell me that the 11 other teams in the league wouldn’t be excited by that prospect.

The future of Scottish Football depends on rangers being dealt with accordingly and punished for whatever crimes they are found guilty of.

Re using same name for newco, I assume you are aware of the Farsley Celtic scenario, where HMRC prevented the newco there from using the name Celtic in the newco/team’s name , hence now called Farsley AFC. Why has this not been highlighted yet in the huns’ case?

  24. As a shareholder I am prepared to accept that the Board does not seek compensation for the years of hun cheating which has reduced the money Celtic would have earned in Europe etc.

The above, however, is strictly on the condition that it applies the hosepipe to the hun mouth, which puts the hun out of Scottish football.

I’m a reasonable person you understand.

Anything less will be totally unacceptable.

  25. James F – on your point 2)….this is where it gets very tasty.

For a “Pheonix” to work the NewCo has to be sufficiently different to the old one for HMRC not to just chase the new one. This legislation wasn’t drafted to let people dodge debt and start again. It was setup to safeguard jobs. To allow business people to take maybe successful pieces of a failing business, keep some skill, and try and make a fist of it. There will always be guys who try and take advantage and use it to “turnaround” companies.

If there is a football club, playing at Ibrox Stadium, it has a PLC name containing Rangers Football, they play in Blue, they have some of the same players the previous club did…AND…they take up the previous club’s place in the football heirarchy.

Would you fancy going in front of a Sheriff and arguing Rangers 2012 is in fact the same as Rangers Football Club PLC?

I would fancy my chances at that and I ain’t no lawyer!

    Bjmac,

If I was new in the job, I would be stunned at the ‘joke. I would probably lapse into silence mode and would ruminate about it for hours.

I know some our blessed folks on this blog would turn round and bark back, or threaten him or ‘see to him’ out of office hours in an appropriate place. These options would most likely work and no-one would speak out of turn again. However in this age of litigation using any kind of physical threat or violence will see YOU fired.

There are websites with good info on how to deal with situations which involve showing fellow workers disrespect. Google bullying in the workplace, how to deal with offensive behaviour in the workplace etc.

These give advice on the correct protocol to use in these circumstances. Even if everyone on your workplace is a ‘hun’ im sure you will find some of them are decent huns (oxymoron?) and would probably be embarrassed at the behaviour of their colleague.

    Believingeverybodyhasagoodside.csc

  28. Well I thought I would give you my view of the world from 4 points behind. I had already conceded the league on here a few weeks ago and expect the lead to increase in the coming weeks. The transfer strategy at Ibrox is non existent and we are being linked with every 30 year old journeyman from all over the place.

I am more worried about the future of the club and the person currently in charge of it.

    Anyway, on to another subject.

There has been mass rejoicing on here about Rangers being liquidated, put into administration, relegated to division 3 etc., but I have to put this to you.

The SPL has always been a two horse league, you want it reduced to one, at a time when Scottish Football is at an all time low.

We are on our uppers, Hearts future is shaky, Aberdeen are millions in debt, so are Dundee Utd, Hibernian are the same and could be relegated and I would suggest that any pan European League or British league (which will happen someday) is years off.

    So there you have it.

The SPL is yours for years to come. No Old Firm games, no competition.

Your Champions League entry will be questionable.

Turgid entertainment, which lets face it , is the norm in SPL football gets, will get worse. The notion that Rangers supporters will then divide their allegiances to ther clubs is laughable, they won’t become stronger because of our removal.

TV deals will diminish, sponsorship will fall, your ability to bring players to the SPL, hard just now, will become even harder. Foriegn players relish the Old Firm match, that will be gone for them.

Now, as for season ticket sales, the first season they would probably hold up, because of an atmosphere of triumphalism and being the only show in town.

After that, your season ticket sales will drop like a stone, due to lack of competition and poor fare.

Now ask yourself, really, will you be able to put up for such a scenario, I don’t think so.
