Dinner with the president

629

I didn’t comment on reports earlier this week that the SFA would allow Rangers International to complete an internal investigation into alleged links between Craig Whyte and Charles Green as I thought this was the appropriate course of action.

The SFA acted correctly: they wrote to Rangers International expressing concern over the matters in hand, and received assurances that their questions would be answered by an independent panel.  Last year the football authorities were slow to enforce compliance with predecessor club, Rangers, but we can hope they apply a little more pressure this time.

News, released last night, suggesting after it was established Craig Whyte had been struck off as a director and would therefore face disciplinary proceedings, he had dinner with SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, and president, Campbell Ogilvie, is far more concerning.

Mr Regan assured us that Mr Ogilvie, who he admitted was “heavily conflicted” by matters concerning Rangers, would remove himself from matters concerning the club he was previously a director of.  This is meaningless if both parties met to discuss disciplinary matters with Mr Whyte before formal proceedings were underway.

What is increasingly clear is the co-dependency between so many characters in this play, including Regan and Ogilvie.  They exist to keep each other in a job. This co-dependency will be jeopardised by the one man so many are attempting to paint as the only villain of the piece. Craig Whyte has them all taped and will not go down quietly.

It will be a frustration to many that the bottom half of the Scottish Football League clubs have held out for a bigger share of the trickle-down pie.  Odds on a schism opening up between community and full time clubs have to be high.

Many thanks to everyone who has ordered (below) Willie Wallace’ autobiography, Heart of a Lions.  It goes to print this week and will be with us soon thereafter.

Personally I think all the officials involved in assisting sevco stay alive and make progress will have been given immunity from prosecution for any offence from the SNP,

no evidence, just a strong hunch based on the confidence of sevco playing this out in public against a masonic background knowing full well that they are untouchable,

the spivs of course will have no immunity, now that really would be pushing it.

    Ron Bacardi & LiviBhoy,

I joined the BB’s aged 9, despite my dad telling me not to (They were orange b——s, he said) to play in their football team. Sure enough, after one game, kicked out because I went to the wrong school. Innocence destroyed. Wide awake since. H.H.

  14. dont think Celtic will make any complaint regarding the sfa until after their masons questioning masons is complete. i think they’l leave it to other clubs make a stand..for the safety of our supporters i think h.h

  15. The Moon Bhoys on

…and I certainly cant buy in to our own board staying quiet in all of this because they will need the same (sfa) officials to rubber stamp our exit when we leave Scotland to go and play somewhere else, thats just simply ridiculous.

  21. Manchester City have expanded their commercial and football activities into the United States with the majority purchase of a Major League Soccer franchise in New York. The franchise is a new one, planned to become the 20th competing in an expanded MLS from 2015.

Previous reports suggested that Sheikh Mansour, the Abu Dhabi-based owner of City since 2008, was planning to buy an MLS franchise in a personal capacity, but City’s announcement made it clear that the club itself is the purchaser. It is doing so in partnership with a local Major League Baseball team, the New York Yankees, who are taking a minority stake as an investor, with City the majority owners.

The official announcement by City, the Yankees and MLS did not disclose the cost of the new franchise, but reports from New York suggested it cost $100m (£66m). The deal aims to extend City’s reach into the US and capitalise on the gradual growth of football as a game both played and watched in New York, a traditional baseball stronghold.

The development by City to have a presence and make money in new countries is seen by the Abu Dhabi ownership as vital to making the club financially sustainable and successful long-term, without major further investment.

The plans are being stewarded by the chief executive, Ferran Soriano, who was responsible for developing Barcelona’s brand and commercial activities during the club’s renaissance in the 2000s. Immediately after the Premier League season City flew to the US, where they will play Chelsea in St Louis, and at Yankee Stadium in New York on Saturday.

The new franchise will not bear Manchester’s name, though; it will be called New York City Football Club. Describing New York as “a legendary sports town, as well as a thriving global city with a rapidly expanding soccer fanbase”, Soriano said that with the Yankees the intention is to develop “a world-class sports organisation and a winning team”.

If you have the money you can join whatever league you want.

I played for the St Eunans Clydebank Boys guild team in late fifties/early sixties. Our goalie was injured and out for weeks/months. Pal of mine was a natural goalie and went to non-RC school. We drafted him in on his footballing abilities and living in the parish!
