Doncaster wriggling with rules

846

SPFL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, is clear on the subject of offensive singing at football games: “It remains the SPFL’s position that if it can be established that clubs have done everything required in overall management of the event pre-match, during the game and post-match then they have no case to answer”.

This may be the case, but if clubs fail to communicate appropriate instructions to fans after one transgression, which is quickly followed by a second transgression, Doncaster’s defence is moot.  The club has failed to do “everything required” pre-match and post-match, and is guilty under the rules, if applied.

Doncaster has employed a rhetorical technique.  When faced with a difficult scenario, make a statement which is in itself true, but the parameters of which do not match the scenario.

The chief executive of the Scottish Professional Football League’s comments this morning appear like an attempt to protect a member club from the League’s own rules.  He is paid to ensure rules are applied, not negated.

It is no business of his to defer responsibility to the police, or the Justice Ministry, which concocted this inept Offensive Behaviour Act in order to “equalise” criminality, where it didn’t exist, but will not lift a finger on this issue.

What do you know about Andy McAtee?  He signed for Celtic from Mossend Hibs in 1910 and left in 1924, having played 438 games on the right wing, scoring 75 goals.  He won six league titles and four Scottish Cups and was one of the earliest Celtic heroes.  During the Great War he fought in the Alps, and in Haig’s bloody field in the Somme.

When he, and other members of our first genuinely great team, retired, Celtic found it impossible to replace them.  We didn’t win another six titles until Inter manager, Helenio Herrera, watched our title win in May 1967.

The Celtic Graves Society mark his final resting place at Kilsyth Cemetery (G5 0TA) at 12:00 on Saturday 28 February.  After a graveside blessing, there will be a Q&A with Jim Craig, Tom Boyd and Pat McCluskey, at The Curling Stone pub, High Craigends, Kilsyth.  If you can make it along and support the great work of the Society, get there.

Nice wee 5/1 double rube and barca

  2. Leaves some interest for the return leg, I suppose.

Unlikely though that Barcelona will let an away lead slip, especially with 2 away goals.

  3. Absolute joy to watch the Messi man.

Seemed to be everywhere at times, and some great touches, passes, interplay with others.

CRCs message confirmed the teams that were picked over the last weekend. The finalists have still to make their selections for this coming weekend.

I get your point mate, they are bigots but, my point is why in this day and age are they allowed to march through our streets, when every man and his dog know it’s sectarian…let them walk round ipox until their heart is content for the one day.

I could live with that for the time being :)

  6. Best league in the world once again given a reality check. Barca should have been out of sight by half time. Wonderful stuff Barca.

It is topical it srarted after the LC semi final which we participated in. Then there was the initial SPFL even it up whataboutery , which we failed to comment on. Collynore , BT, petition , Raith, Purdie, Collymore Racism and back to OFPFL tiday.

So I dont think that is fair. Huns always bury bad news before a big game. We should not be hiding from this.

I have moved on from hoping that my Son would not be objected to this to my grandson.

We need to stop making excuses and drawing up lucrative TV contracts at other teams expenses for them. Doncaster has Peter Lawwell by his short and cutlies and he knows it.

Not sure I agree that ND has PL ‘by his short and curlies ‘ ….

I think ND and PL are working together … more accurately, I think PL calls the shots …

Celtic are the only thing standing between the SPFL and irrelevancy …. and whoever has the most money calls the shots …and in Scotland, there is only one team that has any financial clout… and that is Celtic.

I think Celtic/DD and PL are happy to go along with the Old Firm model as they see it as most profitable … so Celtic dont complain about Sevco … and, in effect, ND does their bidding.

    Just my take …

  14. Is anybody watching Setanta Ireland.

    Ray Houghton Irish Legends.

    Very complimentary regarding Celtic(Shuggie Chalmers?).

Does anyone on the site remember Ray from Castlemilk.?

  15. My son phoned me at 7pm from a pub in Glasgow. Said he was going next door to put on a correct score bet and asked what I thought. I told him 2-1 Barcelona. He was impressed with my 4-0 + Commons bet on Sunday. He said he would put on £10 including a fiver for me.

He came to our house with 10 minutes to play and confirmed the 2-1 bet was on. Into stoppage time and Barca get a penalty. We were both cursing as Messi placed the ball on the spot. My son threw the betting slip in the bin. We were soon cheering like mad when Messi messed up.

I’ll be going for the hat-trick on Thursday.

Agreed. Being brought up in North Belfast I have a memory of about 50 bands marching past my street one Friday evening……’Tour of the North’

Most bands ,No matter what they were playing ,stopped their tune about100 yards before they reached our street…..

Drummer Marked time until level with us and then burst in to the Sash….

Must have heard it about 30 times.

Ray Houghten went to St Julie’s primary school (Castlemilk) before moving south, his family stayed right next to the school.

I played in the same team as him during that time, to be honest he was miles ahead of most of the team, me included.

Don’t know if it’s been posted yet as still reading back, but ffs only in Scotland would you have to get the approval of the OO before you were allowed a St Paddy’s day parade.
