Doncaster wriggling with rules

846

SPFL chief executive, Neil Doncaster, is clear on the subject of offensive singing at football games: “It remains the SPFL’s position that if it can be established that clubs have done everything required in overall management of the event pre-match, during the game and post-match then they have no case to answer”.

This may be the case, but if clubs fail to communicate appropriate instructions to fans after one transgression, which is quickly followed by a second transgression, Doncaster’s defence is moot.  The club has failed to do “everything required” pre-match and post-match, and is guilty under the rules, if applied.

Doncaster has employed a rhetorical technique.  When faced with a difficult scenario, make a statement which is in itself true, but the parameters of which do not match the scenario.

The chief executive of the Scottish Professional Football League’s comments this morning appear like an attempt to protect a member club from the League’s own rules.  He is paid to ensure rules are applied, not negated.

It is no business of his to defer responsibility to the police, or the Justice Ministry, which concocted this inept Offensive Behaviour Act in order to “equalise” criminality, where it didn’t exist, but will not lift a finger on this issue.

What do you know about Andy McAtee?  He signed for Celtic from Mossend Hibs in 1910 and left in 1924, having played 438 games on the right wing, scoring 75 goals.  He won six league titles and four Scottish Cups and was one of the earliest Celtic heroes.  During the Great War he fought in the Alps, and in Haig’s bloody field in the Somme.

When he, and other members of our first genuinely great team, retired, Celtic found it impossible to replace them.  We didn’t win another six titles until Inter manager, Helenio Herrera, watched our title win in May 1967.

The Celtic Graves Society mark his final resting place at Kilsyth Cemetery (G5 0TA) at 12:00 on Saturday 28 February.  After a graveside blessing, there will be a Q&A with Jim Craig, Tom Boyd and Pat McCluskey, at The Curling Stone pub, High Craigends, Kilsyth.  If you can make it along and support the great work of the Society, get there.

Not living in Malta, but spend lot of time in Gozo for 35 years. A family friend from Luqa is a great Celt and was friendly with Bob Kelly and Jock.Used to help with arrangements when Celts played there, and took me to meet Jock at CP in 67. As you probably know, Gozo is much quieter. I used to have small travel business on the side. Now assist family and friends who go.Castleboy should google Gozo.Maltese very friendly and have converted a few to Hoopies over the years. Will be out in a few weeks.

  5. Doncaster Statement

    ================

Whilst we may not like the inference of what Doncaster says, however he is only carrying out the wishes of all member clubs.

Clubs voted that they should NOT be held responsible for the unlawful actions of their fans within the Scottish game, if, they can show that they are doing all in their power to discourage and dissuade all forms of offensive behaviour.

Now whether the Ibrox club have discouraged and dissuaded is a moot point, however no club has wanted to be held as a hostage to fortune by some of the mindless idiots who fallow them.

UEFA/FIFA are of course two different ‘kettles of fish’, as Celtic knows to its cost. These bodies do hold clubs responsible (strict liability) for their supporters actions in competitions under their auspices. ‘Rangers’ have been ‘called out’ by UEFA on numerous occasions for the sectarian singing of their fans.

We have been fined hundreds of thousands of Euros for the behaviour of a few dozen ‘nutters’, who have the temerity to call themselves Celtic fans – they are no more Celtic fans than the ‘Billy Boys’, who would do us wrong at every occasion.

It is not to difficult to imagine how a system of ‘strict liability’ would work against Celtic, if it was introduced into this bigoted little country of ours. We would be having bans and points deducted, left, right and centre.

I have been saying till I’m ‘blue in the face’ (no pun intended) – it is the SNP and their National Police Force that must address this Ibrox farce, within a farce.

Salmond and his p(m)uppets were quick off their marks to introduce the OB bill, after ‘handbags’ between McCoist and Lennon at Celtic Park, and they are quite happy to ‘wade into’ bunches of school age kids with their Stop and Search agenda, then lie about it when held to account.

Racism – singing “Why don’t you (Irish) go home” and Bitter Sectarianism ” up to our knees in Fenian blood” are CRIMINAL OFFENCES – if it was Pakistanis, and Muslim – action would have already been taken by SNP, wary of losing the ethnic community vote in the Neverendum and General/Scottish Elections.

Criminal offences are subject to the criminal law – the government makes the law, the police enforce it.

The SNP set a precedent when they took upon themselves to impose the OB bill against the overwhelming will of the Scottish people. In effect they jumped right into the Racism and Sectarianism debate feet first – they are strangely silent now.

We are not dealing with hearsay and/or written reports here – we have recorded prima facie evidence, straight from the TV companies.

How on earth Celtic/Catholic/Irish minority can countenance supporting and voting for the SNP, is way beyond me – or is it?

They do it for the lowest common denominator reason – they think they are ‘sticking it to the Ibrox mob’ – the ‘mob’ are NOT the UK.

Our kind of ordinary people in Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Cardiff, London, Portsmouth, Glasgow, Edinburgh,Dundee, Aberdeen – ARE the UK.

The SNP has NEVER had, and will NEVER have, the interests of our minority, or the working class in their one issue dogma – it’s just not in their DNA.

    ANNOAON

Not sure I agree that ND has PL ‘by his short and curlies ‘ ….

I think ND and PL are working together … more accurately, I think PL calls the shots …

Celtic are the only thing standing between the SPFL and irrelevancy …. and whoever has the most money calls the shots …and in Scotland, there is only one team that has any financial clout… and that is Celtic.

I think Celtic/DD and PL are happy to go along with the Old Firm model as they see it as most profitable … so Celtic dont complain about Sevco … and, in effect, ND does their bidding.

    Just my take …

Well, surprise, surprise ….. The SPFL seem to be of a mind to ignore the ongoing anti- Irish bigotry from the knuckle-dragging sevco hordes….and, I’ll say it again, some CELTIC Supporters want the bhun infestation of Scottish Football to return ……thoroughly gobsmacked to forehead….. Will NEVER understand THAT one !!!!!!

  20. Just something I was sitting here thinking about Sevco’s forthcoming EGM. The new kids on the block are calling for all of the current board to resign. Aren’t 2 of them there at the insistence of Big Mike and as a condition of one of his loans. Wouldn’t removing them result in the loan being immediately repayable?
