Don’t blame defenders, this one was down to tactics

1712

It’s a well-established fact that we don’t have Beckenbauer and Baresi at the back, so the reason why we chose to play so high up the field is the most alarming element of last night’s debacle.

Dedryck was bound to misplace a pass, or Efe was bound to misread play. We all knew this. Regret over the last time mistakes like this were made doesn’t mean they won’t happen again. So when the inevitable occurred, our two full backs were 30 yards in front of the line of opposition attack, with our defensive mids well into opposition territory.

Efe’s failure to cover Kamara and Dedryck’s pass were consequences of the main mistake of the night, which was tactical.  We didn’t lose the opening goal because of a bad pass, it was lost because we left an acre of Norway unattended.

Ronny, you should never have left so much space at the back away from home in Europe, we’re clearly not good enough for such an open system, not even close.  We’ve learned nothing since what was supposed to be a lesson in Warsaw, when the same expansive errors cost us.  Molde played rope-a-dope football, they could have watched us against Malmo, Maribor and Legia, as each opened their home games against us in exactly the same manner.

It must be an absolute joy to face a European opponent at home who leaves so much space at the back, begging to be exploited.  If we had played with the same tactics we used in Amsterdam I’ve no doubt we would have won the game – no one in that Molde squad would get into the Celtic team.

There’s more.  After dominating possession and creating genuine chances, the defeat looked inevitable from the 11th minute when we went behind. Body language changed in an instant and Celtic went out like a light.  I’ll spare you what I said at the time in case it’s misconstrued, but the evidence suggests there’s more to worry about than repeating the same tactical mistakes.

Celtic have nine months and one and a half transfer windows to get ready for the next Champions League qualifiers.  There’s plenty of time to put things right, but we can’t sleepwalk into another failure.  More immediately, we could be out of a cup if we don’t pull our act together this week.

The original Holy Goalie, our own John Fallon, will be signing copies of his book, and no doubt giving you his thoughts on current events, at the Supporters’ Club on London Road on Sunday from 12:30.  All are welcome.  There’s live entertainment too, so get along and check it out.

  1. Since Thursday night, Ronny has had his say. Kris has had his say. Leigh has had his say and on here Everyman and his dug has had their say.

Amid all the clamour , not a word from PL, the selectively garralous DD or the invisible Bankier.

We have not even had the customary ‘Rally Round the Flag Bhioys@.

Chic hasn’t mastered multiplication and division or maybe he has. When it’s Ogilivie’s EBT 0000’s disappear and then seem to get added to our ‘monthly losses.’

  3. The big conundrum for RD is who to play in defence. Perm any 4 from 6 appears to be the way of things. Not that I expect CG and our back four will be troubled much by a woeful United team.

By no means or measures is everything rosy in the garden.

All I said was that things were not as horrendous as we’re being made out.

I have watched some truly awful performances in my life, I have been lucky enough to witness some truly inspirational nights at Celtic Park. I just do not throw my dummy away when things do not go as I want.

I believe Celtic are capable of beating anyone on their day I just do not demand that they win every game or else I am going to hold my breath until I am sick.

Nobody in their right mind expects Celtic to win every game.

However, there is a growing perception that they cannot rise to to the occasion in games that could be classed as crunch encounters.

How many punters here wuld put their mortgage on Ronny’s side delivering in next week’s cup tie?

    Prestonpans Bhoys…

It’s the country we live in, there are a lot more wanting them to win and a lot of us watching the freak show, I watch them when they are on BBC, Alba is a bit of a laugh as well, my get out is my mrs supported Rangers now follows Sevco, she isn’t the brightest hence she married me, anyway, let the Warbmeister lead them to Peteofactor glory, as Owen and a few others have said things aren’t as bad as they seem with us, but like many others on the blog Ronny’s unwillingness to change irritates a lot of fans, but as I have always said Cqn is a tiny percent of the Celtic support and the MSM have jumped onto the booing of 700+ fans the other night, by the way I applaud and totally admire those 700+ fans but the media love to turn things to their own wee agendas, am not paranoid but they need to keep their jobs and the easier way is take a free boot at Celtic the matter who the manager or Plc board is

I get a copy of Celtic’s accounts every year and a half yearly summary and can unequivocally state Celtic are not losing £12million annually.

Check is trying to transpose the deidy clubs woes on to us.

As for £10milion that is what the death of Rain”#23s potentially caused Celtic. That is reduced sponsorship income, ticket sales, TV revenues etc. It was never an actual operating loss.

I love how negative stories aways have legs, yet ositive stories are derided.

  7. Owen- i hope you are well, thanks for reply

    2 Questions

Will RD be our Manager on the first day of next season?

Would he have got the job if Sevco were in the league?

I made no categorical statement on how Chico arrived at his conclusions.

I did say that some on here had suggested that he was basing his assumptions on utterances of PL and DD.

I do not question your take on Chico’s motives.

Like the rest of us, you are in possession of figures up to June this year.

Unless you have mole inside CP, you are speculating on the current situation in the same fashion as Chico.

Certainly we do know without being told that failure to qualify for CL will not be helping current year’s figures.

Outward activity at the coming January window may give us a better idea of what is what.

  12. Did Chico say we are actually losing £1m a month, or did he say no Sevco costing us £1m per month?

  13. Bada Bing

    1) Yes

    2) Yes, he had already demonstrated a hunskelping tendency.

Bada Bing I support every Celtic manager to the hilt, I never concede things are lost until it is mathematically impossible, I supported Celtic all through their nine, I can never find it in myself to berate the team and the men wearing the Jersey I love.

Not getting in the CL when handed the easiest opportunities in the last two seasons has cost the club a few million on top of that .

The music is always as good as ever but enjoyed reading your posts about Thursday, straight from the heart like 99% of us (not 70%) I think I slagged the amount of pages after a defeat then, I think Cowiebhoy turned it into a positive about so many being disappointed, am never unhappy being a Celtic fan, a bit deflated at times but again I think it was HT that also posted some of our best Celtic times are when we were mince, but again Thursday was pretty low but at least the Bhoys are back the morra !

  17. Speaking to one of my favourite roasters on here during the week and reading HTs post about his Da last night ,I have been thinking of my old man more than usual this week ,

  19. Been reading comments and its obvious many supporters want change as far as the management team goes. To all happy clappers no Celtic supporter ever wants us to lose but surely you must agree its very difficult to back Ronnie when he consistently plays Efe and Izzy who are very poor defenders. Any manager who makes the same mistakes repeatedly must be replaced now not at the end of the season. We will win the league I am sure but the champions league must be in the boards thoughts as the team currently playing out of Ibrox will also challenge, They will win most games assisted by the SFA and referees. Hearing Brendan Rogers has been sounded out which if true is a step in right direction. Its also very difficult to defend the board when Dermot says we are improving when clearly we are not,Does he even know the names of the players?I genuinely doubt it. Ronnie in my book has been a very poor appointment completely inappropriate for a club of our size and wealth. Sometimes when I read the posts on here people forget what a worldwide name we are.Celtic still should be able to attract a proper time served manager not potential.Anyway at the game tomorrow and will be sitting with other Celtic supporters with the same passion for the club as I have.We may criticise but we always want whats best for Celtic.
