Don’t limp home, omni-shamble contagion

696

There’s always a bit of trepidation before Celtic play a meaningless game, like they will do in Turkey tomorrow, the propensity to pick up injuries feels higher, although this is possibly not borne out by statistics.

Before Sunday the team look like they needed a break but no injuries, please.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard allegations that some or other council are controlled by, and for the benefit of, an ethnic or religious minority.  This is an old-time prejudice, up there along with allegations of criminality or the personal hygiene habits of the minority.  But like Corporation buses, they come in groups.

Anyone can report Celtic for whatever they like, and believe me, many do.  Which is a great pity, as there are real targets worthy of attention elsewhere…..  For years, while others were buying football bling, Celtic were acquiring land, all appropriately, as is their borrowing.  More importantly, they have been able to establish all of this without question. Confirmed.

Just because one club was an omni-shambles doesn’t mean any others are.  Enjoy the laugh.

    Chris Graham On Craig Whyte:

    Quote:

Whyte’s performance with the press has, on the whole, been refreshing if a touch naive

    Quote:

It is almost unprecedented that a chairman of Rangers should have to answer such detailed questions and I am impressed that Whyte has now stepped up several times to do so.

    Quote:

The more mud they sling the more it sticks and if there are real issues with Whyte they are being obscured by what now appears to be a vendetta.

    Quote:

Ally McCoist called for unity on Friday. Those who are mistrustful of Whyte should remember that there are people working in Ibrox who know a lot more about Whyte, his motives and his methods than the press do. Does anyone doubt that McCoist or Gordon Smith have the best interests of the club at heart? Do they really think if Whyte was trying to pull off some sort of swindle then they would stand by and watch it happen?

    Quote:

(On Ticketus deal) The type of facilities that Whyte is using are more and more common in business these days with invoice discounting and factoring being used as a replacement for bank lending which is now so difficult to secure.

    Quote:

The fans need to back the new owner and understand that what he is doing may not be popular but it is necessary.

    Quote:

It’s clear that Mark Daly, the Celtic supporting (do we see a theme here?) journalist, was more interested in smears than facts.

    On administration:

    Quote:

It’s worth noting that this is a step that Craig Whyte had to take against the backdrop of HMRC possibly winning the tax case. If he hadn’t, and they had won, then there is the very real prospect that they would have sought to liquidate the club. That would be the real worst case scenario.

Can the Scottish Government afford to have Rangers enter administration with the possible economic implications that would cause?

Another point and I know this is a (special) football blog but I hope my vote for Scottish Independence delivered democratically and peacefully could effectively “break the back” of the UK military machine and force unilateral nuclear disarmament by Britain.

  7. pfayr.. that’s a wee bit unfair mate.. if you believe in your own country then it makes you a nationalist.. doesn’t mean you are mad.

  8. Is the EC investigating the Hinshelwood Drive land deal? Did this constitute “state aid” and has the Scottish Govt released a statement yet?

How would you feel if this blog got invaded by people spreading propaganda for any other party? Those that have an honest commitment to Scottish nationalism and express this in passing are fine, as are those that defend their party from those attacking it, but tracts of official party policy does seem to be a bit OTT.

The rest of my life I have lived in Scotland and it has been a defining characteristic for most of the people who have met me.

England/Wales have long since come to terms with Catholicism. Scotland/NI have never managed this.

I dread being a Catholic in an independent Scotland.

  17. A vote for independence is not a vote for the disgraced SNP.

Vote the Tories out, get Scotland independent, then vote the SNP to an irrelevance.

The Hun don’t want independence, the fleg waivers don’t want independence and the orange disorder don’t want independence for Scotland.

As opposed to the anti-independence brigade who are all sane, reasoned and never sound like they’re slabbering at the mouth with their regurgitated list of Salmond quotes?

All folk like me do is try and provide the alternative view. We can do without hyperbolic nonsense which suggests all Catholics will experience hell on earth in an independent Scotland. It’s classic divide and conquer rubbish.

Why would folk like me who don’t have the vote feel so strongly about this? We still have ties and family in Scotland and we want the best for the place we left behind because we saw no future in the place under the current system.

We’re not mad my friend. We say it because we care and frankly we get sick of reading hyperbolic nonsense and regurgitated quotations from the Cyber Unionists on CQN.

Too many people take a situation and extrapolate the consequences to it’s absolute worst case scenario and it is rather easy to do. It is much harder to convince people of the positive and that is sad.

Off topic if you haven’t seen it watch the Chilean film NO. It has some relevance here regarding that referendum and some parallels can be drawn between those who support the status quo and those who want change. Status Quo use Fear as their weapon. Rising above it is hard but not impossible.

    Anyway.

As you point out I don’t stay in Scotland and in actual fact today I picked up my new 10 year pass to live in Slovakia which gives me the right to apply for permanent residence and also citizenship of this fine wee country.

If Scotland votes no I’ll be getting both but I’ll be back for three things –

    Family reunions

    Christmas

Any inevitable deaths in the family.

I’ll never live in a Scotland that is happy being a dumping ground for every bad idea cooked in London and force fed to people in the land of my birth when I know it can be so much more.

Take ownership of Scotland and make it the better place to live with Independence. If you vote no then never complain ever again about government policy – whether you like it or not, you voted to keep the system you’ll be stuck with.

Except of course if they thought they could turn Scotland into an Orange Nirvana where every day was the 12th of July they’d all be voting for it right now.

It isn’t as simple as that.

  25. Snake,

The Yes campaign is increasingly negative these days, focusing on essentially an anti-Tory agenda and scaremongering about cuts to Barnett formula if Scotland votes no. Poll after poll puts them behind, and any “positivity” in their early campaign has vanished as a result.

Apart from the worrying cultural implications for Catholics and other minorities, my biggest worry is that Yes clearly don’t have an economic policy worthy of the name. Salmond et al can’t even tell us what currency we’ll be using!!! (which you might consider a rather important element for an independent nation…)

Added to that are the massive porkies Salmond and Sturgeon have told over EU membership, and the clear message from Baroso, Van Rompuy, and Rajoy that Scotland will not simply be allowed to waltz back into the EU on current generous terms…

The whole thing is a mess. The Yes campaign’s economic case doesn’t bear even thirty seconds of scrutiny.

The sooner it’s all over with and we can get back to proper politics, the better.
